  • Too much talent in the NBA for teams to be this bad this early into the season. Not saying any of us expected the Pistons to be champions but I definitely thought they were past the 50 loss seasons.

Thank you for this video P because the pistons used to mean something now we have terrible ownership, a front office that’s more concerned with reviving mid players and a coach that’s just here to collect a check. There are three major problems with the Detroit Pistons, honestly: First there is a legitimate lack of veterans to teach the young talent in on court situations in real games. Its one thing to be coached and to be prepped before the game starts, its another to have a veteran telling you how you messed up a coverage, or how to take advantage of situations in a game. Secondly, the coaching hire made no sense when it was made. Look, you hire Monty when you have turned the corner, and are in phase two of your rebuild, you don't hire him in the first phase. The guy can coach a team of well developed youths who know what accountability and team oriented basketball looks like, he can't coach undisciplined players, and he can't develop players who are already developing bad habits because there are no vets to keep them in line with the message. Lastly, someone needs to do something with the front office. They should be rebuilding properly and hiring development based coaches and pushing for small improvements over the course of the season. Orlando did that for a few years, OKC did that for a few years, and Houston is starting to get there now, but this Front Office tried to skip step one and go right to step two. That just ain't going to cut it and trust me when I say this, this rebuild is potentially gonna be ruined before it even began if things don't change.

Monte hasn’t played, he was supposed to be the veteran ball handler to take some off of Cade’s plate. 5:1 asst to TOV ratio. He’s also a career 39.2% 3P shooter. Apparently he won’t be back until like February at the soonest?
Joe Harris has played 7 games, a total of 98 mins, shooting 36% FG and 31.6% 3P. Now he’s hurt who knows when he’s gonna be back but he’s been TRASH.
Burks played the first 4g, 25.6MPG. He averaged 15/3.3/2.3/0.8blks, 0TOV, shot like 44% FG, 53.8% 3P on 6.5att, and 80% FT on 3.8att. He was balling. Then he missed the next 6g.
      The 7g since he’s been back he’s been BAD. 19MPG, 31% FG, 28.2% 3P on 5.6att, 88.9% FT on 3.9att. 10.4/2.4/2.1, 2PF. His last 5g even worse lol. 28.6% FG, 20.8% 3P, 8.2/2.4/1.2, 0.8TOV, 1.8PF.
Idk wtf happened to Burks bc he was the one vet playing well now he’s been 🗑️. Bojan is coming back soon they need him back bad.
Duren played the first 4g, missed one, played 2, missed one, played 2, missed 5, and played the last 2. He’s played 10/17, and before his return for the last 2 it was 8/15. Glad he’s back at least.
Isaiah Livers missed the first 14g, he’s finally back he’s played the last 3.
Idk why Ivey isn’t playing more. He’s starting to but it shouldn’t have taken this long. Cade is out there playing 36MPG which is crazy. Killian played 31.1MPG his first 10g, all starts. Since then he’s played 6/7 games, 3 starts, 19.4MPG. 35.5% FG lol. 22.2% 3P. Over Killian’s entire 16GP, he’s averaging 8.6/2.8/4.2/1.1/0.7, 0.8TOV 2PF.
      39.3% FG
      30.4% 3P
      75% FT
Idk what’s even going on with this team. It seemed like they were obsessed with playing Stew at the 4 and forcing that to work. Then they wanted a defensive identity and to try and make Ivey earn his mins by playing defense, so they played Killian a million mins. Had like Cade Killian Ausar Stew Duren lineups out there which is INSANE. Once they replaced Killian w Burks the net rating shot up. Or even Sasser.
I like Umude, he could be a 3&D wing. He’s young and obv needs reps, but I wouldn’t mind him as like the 10th man. Livers idk about bc he’s constantly hurt.
To be honest with you, these are the guys I want to see on the court: Sasser, Ivey, Cade, Burks, Ausar, Livers, Bojan, Duren, Stew…then assuming Monte is out and Harris, I wouldn’t mind seeing Umude a bit. Maybe Bagley I guess if you need some big mins, but if all 10 of those guys are healthy idk if you need him. I don’t want to see Wiseman. I’d prolly waive Knox and give Umude like a 3y deal with maybe 2M gtd this year, then non gtd for next year for 2.2M or w/e, then another non gtd year for 25-26 for 2.4-2.5M. Something like that.
Idk about Killian. I think he maybe can be a backup PG somewhere, but I don’t think it should be on this team. He is about to be an RFA, and I can’t imagine paying him even like the room exception. He’s gonna have a big qualifying offer too, idk how much but prolly 8M or something. I said the Bagley trade was bad when it happened, I said the contract was bad when it happened, and signing Killian to like 3/30 would be horrible. I’d try to trade him and just have Cade Ivey and Sasser as the main guards, and hopefully you can trade for a veteran PG. Maybe someone will trade a second or two for Killian and you can use those to get Tyus Jones (that’d be the high end) or even like Delon Wright if he’s healthy. Just SOME veteran ball handler that can pass and hit an open 3.

I knew the moment we extended Isaiah Stewart with a year still remaining on his rookie deal that the Pistons would be doomed. I admittedly anticipated slightly cracking the 20 win mark prior to the season, but even that seems like a pipe dream at this point.
Now is Stew the source of all this team’s problems? Of course not. Is his contract an abject albatross? Not necessarily. But the signing exemplifies everything wrong with the Pistons’ front office and the organization as a whole from the top down.
Stew had already started more than 130 games in his career prior to this season and all he had proven was that he is not and never will be a starting caliber NBA player. His career numbers were beyond mediocre for a starter (and they still are). He can’t create his own shot, is undersized for his position, has no post game, cannot put the ball on the floor, and sorely lacks the athleticism to be a rim runner or a lob threat.
BUT…he “hustles”. He plays with “effort” and “energy”. He’s the “anchor” and “emotional leader” of this young team.
And that, of course, was more than enough to sell this front office.
By paying Stew and effectively cementing him as your starting PF of the future, it indicates that the Pistons are more concerned with assembling a team full of guys who fit this goofy culture that they’ve conjured in their twisted minds rather than going out and trying to acquire people that are actually good at basketball. They couldn’t care less about surrounding Cade and Ivey with the proper pieces to help spur their development. The most important thing is keeping the “emotional leader” of the worst team in basketball over the past 4 years on this roster and ensuring him a starting spot.
Entire organization is a dumpster fire.

You hit the nail on the head. All of those bigs need to go, except Duran. Take those washed up vets out of here too.

It's too many guards on this roster too.

I agree with being disappointed in resigning Stew, bit he's no way cemented as our starting 4. Truthfully for spacing and just the sake of more scoring I'd start Livers, Knox, or Bogy at 4 over Stew.

    • @LogicOverEmotion
      @LogicOverEmotion 9 місяців тому +1

@@megaprofessionalz9944 what makes you think Stew ISN’T this team’s PF of the future? This front office has consistently displayed little competence when it comes to talent evaluation. Why else would they give him a hefty extension with a year remaining on his rookie deal and a plethora of roster holes still needed to be filled? I can’t imagine a scenario where an organization’s first major transaction coming off a 17 win season is resigning its prospective BACKUP big man to a near 70 million dollar deal. No way the Pistons make that move if they weren’t at least confident that Stew could serve as a franchise cornerstone with the potential to hold down the PF position for the foreseeable future, if not already completely sold on him altogether.
I truly believe that in the minds of Weaver and co., Stew is an ideal fit for this team’s core because of his attitude and how he conducts himself in the locker room and in the community. Whatever he actually produces on the court is completely secondary in terms of importance.
And I’m sure he’s a delightful young man, but he has no business starting for any team in the league based on his size, skillset and production. And when your team isn’t capable of amassing even 20 wins, you don’t go around giving out extensions to “culture” or “locker room” guys unless they’re adequately producing on the court.
That’s why this organization is a joke. They haven’t the slightest idea of how to actually build a team.

    • @Jrseydevil
      @Jrseydevil 9 місяців тому +1

Dude this is a serious question but have you ever played organized team sports? Heck have you even watched organized sports before? Getting a guy who’s an average nba player under 26 for less then 18-20 mill a year is a STEAL in the new age of “give me all the money” sports we live in. Not only is he the “emotional” leader as you so back handedly put it he’s been the ONLY person on the team who actually plays like he’s wants to actually earn his money. Look at any successful franchise in any major sport and they will 100% always have a guy like stew on the team. Is he the best player on the team? Nope not even close. Is he the hardest working person on the court any and every time he steps on it? Yup. Is he the only guy on the court that as a fan you know hands down bar none he will put his body on the line and bleed for his team? You’re DAMN right he is. The only reason he’s starting is because They have no one else on the team who should be getting minutes let alone starting. Oh you want Marvin bagley ststting instead that human turnstile with a 1976 offensive game and ZERO floor spacing? I mean that’s not already a massive flaw with this team. You want livers starting? He’s been worse than stew at everything honestly not to mention he’s incredibly undersized to play the 4 and no where near athletic enough to play the 3. Remember Rodney Stuckey well that’s the guard version of livers. Don’t blame anyone other Troy I NEVER should have been hired Weaver for this dumpster fire of a team but damn sure don’t make the only freaking person on this team who gives a damn the scape goat. They cut guys like Musa (who went on to become Spanish league MVP) because he is not signed with Tallem's agency and they badly need scoring at the 3 spot. **92-93 40 wins
      * means led the league in attendance. ** means 2nd in attendance. *** means 3rd in attendance. They had a bunch of random years like 4th-7th etc. but I mostly just wanted to do these two eras and I knew they led the league in attendance over those two eras overall but figured I’d point out when they were 1st 2nd or 3rd.
It’s sad to see it’s fallen this far. The Darko pick, then Tom Gores buying it, then Gores giving SVG both HC and President of bball ops power were the 3 events that have shaped the last like 15 years of DET basketball. Darko pick stopped it from being a real dynasty, Gores buying the team led to incompetence throughout the organization, and allowed SVG to set the franchise back like a decade with all of the horrific draft picks, signings, trades, etc.
What’s crazy is even tho the Blake trade was bad (should’ve traded Tobias for a couple 1sts, could’ve gotten value for Avery Bradley and others, traded away the 11th or 12th pick in the draft that LAC used to move up like one spot and get SGA with) he had an All-NBA season in DET. One of the best seasons of his career. But somehow the training staff, HC, whoever else all let him play that series against MIL on one leg even tho they had ZERO chance. That prolly took away like 3-4 solid years of his career. Not All-NBA seasons, but maybe an All-Star season, one or two seasons as a solid to good starter, then some years as a role player. Idk who’s to blame for letting him play…obv it has to go on the training staff, the HC, who knows who else.

They had 10 seasons from 83-84 to 92-93 where they were T3 in attendance every season. Only 3rd once. ECF, Finals, Chip, Chip, ECF.
Then 02-03 to 08-09 they led the league in attendance every year beside one where they were 2nd. 01-02 to 07-08 all 50+ wins, ECF, Chip, Finals L in 7g to SAS, ECF, ECF, ECF. No doubt if they draft Bosh Melo or Wade they get at least one more. They lost to SAS in 7 in crazy fashion.
My point is this used to be a proud franchise. Almost 20 seasons of championships, deep runs, an identity, a product on the floor every night fans wanted to see, at least the belief they could make a deep run the years they didn’t.
The Darko pick, Gores buying the team, then giving SVG both Bball ops power and the HC job. Those are the 3 things that loom large. SVG set this franchise back probably a solid decade, and that’s on Gores.
I will say that a lot of fans didn’t have the stomach for a rebuild, and there’s no way anyone was selling a rebuild to Gores in the early 2010s. No shot. But he let SVG go so long and of course he made the Blake trade to try and save his job. Instead of getting 1sts for Tobias/Avery Bradley and a couple other guys (not saying all of them get you a FRP, but if they tore it down instead of trading for Blake…they could’ve gotten a T10 pick and at least 2 future 1sts and some 2nds) SVG made the predictable home run move.
Hiring a guy like Weaver would’ve been a great move if the front office wasn’t such a mess. You got Arn Tellem in a very high up position in the FO who had ZERO FO experience, he was an agent. You got his kid in the FO, Eric Tellem. Senior Director of Player Personnel. He’s been in the FO since summer 2016, moving up the ranks every 2y. Then Gores decides he HAS to have Monty and writes a huge check to get him. Weaver had 2-3 other candidates he was interviewing and he basically went over the top and got his guy.
Arn Tellem and his kid have a ton of influence in the organization there’s no doubt about it. Monty looks like a guy who could be making 6M/yr for the next two years chilling at the beach and regrets taking this check.
I will say that there is a team here. The Joe Harris trade was bad, the Monte Morris trade was unfortunate if he really was healthy and then something happened. I like Sasser, Ausar, Ivey, Duren, and Cade. I think Stew can be a backup stretch 5 that can play like 15-18MPG at C, and maybe a few mins at the 4 depending on matchup. I think Livers can be a rotation shooter if he can stay healthy. I’m glad they didn’t go spend like 4/120 on Cam Johnson, a lot of fans wanted that and I thought it was a horrible idea.
But man it’s time to see what they have. That means you abandon the 2 big stuff. I’d love to play Ausar more with Stew at the 5. Maybe Ivey/Burks/Livers/Ausar/Stew? Cade should be playing with Bojan as much as possible when he’s back. Cade/Burks/Bojan/Duren and you can play Sasser, Ivey, or Livers or Umude as the 5th if Umude or Livers prove they can shoot it. I just want to see 3 shooters on the floor with Cade and Duren way more. Killian doesn’t have a future here. Ivey has been a good C&S 3P shooter.
I could go on and on, but do better ffs.

Just curious, on the foul aspect of the Pistons being last in fouls given up and almost last in fouls given. Could that possibly be due to the lack of veterans on the team and the refs not giving these young bucks the call? It would silly for a basketball fan to assume that years in the league do not translate into the refs blow of the whistle. What is your take on that statement P?
Side note: even if the fouling statistics change, I personally don’t believe that it will change much of the outcome for the pistons due to other, more major factors. everything you said was pretty spot on. They hadn't been healthy until the last 2 games and still missing their 2 main vets. Think it was like 2 weeks ago they had 7 guys out. So it's basically been everyone not named Cade and Ausar who's been out for some period of time. Still inexcusable to be where they are though. And for some reason I'll still be watching the games.

If there is one thing to take away from this Pistons team, its that modern nba offenses are not going to compete without spacing. Its just really hard to win when 4 defenders can be on Cade without having to worry about someone else catching and hitting a shot. Ausar is a phenomenal defender, but his career wont be nearly as long if his shot doesnt develop within the next few seasons; he does take them at least so that’s encouraging lol. I imagine this year for the Pistons is more of a challenge for the front office because now we can see that this roster as constructed aint on shit. They’ll have to trade probably Ivey, and some other pieces, to either free up cap or find players who can fit a system ran through Cade.

By way of tortured CP3 fandom & being a New Orleanian I watched every game of the PHX Suns the last 3 years, and most of his tenure with the Pelicans. The Pistons are the worst team because the NBA Draft Lottery is outdated. The NBA needs to go to a traditional method of drafting whereby the worst teams pick first.
At its peak between 1977 and 1997 teams had the luxury of selecting highly skilled and highly developed first picks. During that 20-year span teams obtained known commodities with championship pedigree.
The modern game dynamics involve more riskier selections for the bottom feeders. Imagine now tanking for a “One-and-Done” in this era or someone like Scoot Henderson.
Basically, in today’s game it’s mostly a wait and see philosophy. This is a detriment to the fans and organization.

  • @scArisen
    @scArisen 9 місяців тому

I think it boils down to this past off season. Team like the rockets invested in some free agents to fit around their young guys and make them better. If you recall the beginning of this rebuild started with eating a large amount of dead money till ~last year from a lot of players, mostly blake griffin, and no excess capital. Troy weaver went out trying to get some kind of asset by aquiring a bad contract in Joe Harris for some seconds and Monte Morris - presumably to flip them at the deadline. The pistons have been within 1-2 possessions or leading in 90% of these games until the last 6 mins or so and they are sorley missing a vet to calm this team down, and a shooter or two to generate advantge from cade driving, because when it gets to crunch time, they trap cade hard with 2 guys plus a nail defender, and he's kicking it out to ausar thompson who is airballing most of his threes, or stewart who is an unreliable shooter at best, or getting stripped because he knows him putting up a contested 2 is probably higher ROI (leading to efficiency problems). Burkes was that guy, and they were looking good - then he went down with an injury, and when he came back he's not looked good and is probably a net negative atm. Joe Harris and Bogey are old and injury prone, and Bogey hasnt played thus far this season. The rest of the guys on this roster are 19-22. I think you throw any decent shooter over the age of 25 at the 4 (kuz, grant, anyone really) , and a couple of backup vets onto this team and they would look 100x better. They wouldnt be world beaters, but they would have given you 25-30 wins this season. There's other shit wrong, the last quarter we run no sets, we need to switch more on defense, and the ownership/gm should probably change, but everyone saw cade when he was next to some talented shooters in USA select, put out a lineup that makes sense around this man and it will be a watchable product.

  • @nolanscripture

The Trailblazers game was the point in which I knew this team was in trouble. I believe they were 2-2 at the time and were up 20 in the third quarter at home. They lost that game.
The average age of the rotation pieces is like 21. Marcus Sasser is a rookie and is older than every current starter. They're basically a collegiate all-star team trying to compete in the NBA, and these are the results. The lack of veteran leadership is killing this team -- that and the lack of 3 point shooting.
We have good pieces. I love Ausar and Duren especially, and I think Cade will get there eventually once he matures a bit. They're just not set up to win right now in today's NBA. Here's hoping for good draft luck this year 🙏

Houston is scoring the same as the Pistons but have a significantly better win/loss record. Why? They play defense.

Monty’s not a good coach. Already ruining a bunch of young careers, get him out before he does permanent damage to Ivey and Ausar

P, I gotta be honest, I think you're going off of box scores and highlights for Cade. If you've watched all 17 games, you'd know his usage rate is through the roof, and any NBA caliber player would be able to put up some numbers when they have the ball in their hands that much. He has not been playing like our best player, that has without a doubt been Ausar. Monty Williams has also not been coaching like the 2nd highest paid coach in history should be coaching. He's very inconsistent in the sense that he'll give some players long leashes, let them make so many mistakes and remain in the game, while benching others for minimal reason. His 4th quarter lineups and plays are worthy of being investigated for tanking. So many of our games are competitive until the 4th quarter, then the other team runs away with it. Overall the Detroit Pistons have been soul-crushingly bad. The one bright spot has truly been Ausar Thompson thus far. Hopefully they turn their shit around, because this is embarrassing for year 4 of a rebuild.

Why isn’t Jordan Poole putting up Cade’s numbers then? There’s no shot creation outside of Cade who’s asked to be Luka Doncic. Ausar is airballing threes

Also add in the fact that we have no bench scoring whatsoever.

Yea I love Cade but the turnovers gtta slow down. Like wen he threw it over the top to I forgot who it was to but instead of a lob he just threw a regular pass and it was fumbled

Idk why people think this team should be good. Their a young poorly constructed group! Monte doesn’t know what to do with this group he’s still trying to figure out how he got to Detroit! There a team with a bunch of interchangeable pieces..Monte finally figured out Ivey should be starting, hopefully Bojan enters the starting lineup when he returns and put Stewart on the bench, he’s been ok but the fit isn’t working! Finally they need to play Wiseman more. They got 2 wins what the worse that can happen, you gotta see if the guys has any upside he hasn’t had legitimate run yet! He’s still a legit 7ft with some offensive skills, he’s definitely worth the growing pains..

As soon as the lottery night happened and we saw the spurs had the number one pick instead of the pistons I knew right then that they probably won’t be good for another 5-10 years. 😢

They don't play team defense. They don't protect the ball. They don't play 4 quarters. They can't shoot a 3. Other than that they're great. These guys need to grow up.

Thank you my brother I needed somebody to help me cosign Troy Weaver and how he has been He's been bringing in reclamation projects for years now and they never worked He's as bad as Matt millen get rid of Troy Weaver and at least we can we can start in the right direction he is proving that he does not know talent then you give Monty Williams 13 million on a doormat team That's the! Right there

None of those projects were costly to us. We made no big commitments and only used capspace and roster spots that were free.

Keep cade Stewart duren and Thompson. Give Monty more time. This wasnt a roster he helped create. Bogi has to go. Ivey has to go. Killian Hayes has to go. Move Isiah Stewart to the backup center spot. Jalen should be the starting center. Asuar should have more ball handling responsibility. Go get more floor spacing and fire the gm. That's my best suggestion.

Strictly win/loss they are on pace for 10-72. Based on this month it could only be worse than that.
