You're a bit off on the use of focus tokens. When you "buy" dice with them the first one costs 1 focus token, the 2nd die will cost 2, the third die will cost 3, etc, etc. So to "secure" 3 dice like you did there, it would actually cost 6 focus tokens (1+2+3)
Great video. Love your prelude at the beginning. With the lockdown and all and this looking like science fiction! I wasn’t bothered by the components shown up close to the camera at all, I thought it was good. New subscriber!
Good review as always! Just as a suggestion: Showing the components to the camera and the focus adjustments made me a bit dizzy.. I believe it works best to edit in either a picture or video of close ups rather than moving the hand to the camera. Thanks a lot for covering solo games!
Good to know about the solo, AI variances and leader boards. Could tell this game has a following and the mechanics do sound interesting. How does it compare to formula D if you were to choose between the two?
Good question John. Both games are outstanding! Rallyman is a lot puzzlier. You try to plan how to best utilize your available dice, and whether to go Flat Out or not. The two games can both live in your collection and see play. They're both push-your-luck dice racing games, but Rallyman feels thinkier and slower (especially while learning). Both games are best with multiple dice sets being available, but in Rallyman it's truly best if each player has their own set of dice so that they can plan out their upcoming turn. I see both games, Rallyman and Formula D, as perfect racing games.
Rallyman, the original game and the upcoming DIRT version, focus on rally racing. That is racing with a staggered start, and it works incredibly well then for me to just play all the cars and trying to see which playstyle will fare best.
As a familly racing game, i can't recommand enough : DOWNFORCE ! (with some bgg scoring variant) Also really intrigued by the new coming "HEAT" boardgame that has arrived few days ago
Really enjoyed the Video, but I am pretty sure the use of focus tokens is wrong. You need 1 Token for the first die you are saving and then always 1 more than that for the next. So when saving 3 dice it would be 1 for the first, 2 for the second and 3 for the third, so 6 in total
Thanks for the review. You have been killing it with reviews and solo player content lately. Can we get a solo walkthrough on Cloudspire to help some of us newbies out? Also what are you thoughts on Street Masters?
Kevin Olmstead thanks. Rolling Solo has some excellent solo videos on Cloudspire which should help you out. I don’t have the time in my schedule at the moment to for a walkthrough in unfortunately. As for Street Masters, I love it and have reviewed it 👍👍
Your statement about earning focus tokens is a bit misleading. You say that when you roll all the dice at once (flat out), you earn a focus token for each "successful" roll. Not true. You earn for each roll of a gear dice and a coast dice REGARDLESS. So if you roll, say 5 dice, and even if all 5 dice came up as hazard symbols, causing you to wipe out, you would still earn 5 focus tokens.

John Roberts I’ve not played Formula D so I couldn’t compare.
