    Hello! I'll address a few things here. 1) You experienced some level of contamination. It is near-impossible to trace when it does happen, so I'd rather just move on and keep people happy (brake pads are nearly a sponge, so when something happens is almost impossible to extract that element). Email us again, reference this and we'll get you another set to try. I assume we emailed you our suggested rotor-reset process? Ours is a little different in that we suggest going pretty aggressive on the rotors (to bring back the factory crosshatch pattern that was, in most cases, machined into the surface when new.
    2) I'm also really surprised you said you've heard of this from others. We've sold over 100,000 units so far, 'have about 500 dealers, and we rarely hear of this. BUT, the brake systems on our bikes are pretty volatile and even more so given where bikes can go, how fast, etc. We (all enthusiasts) are putting brakes to the limit way more than ever.
    3) You mentioned your mechanic friend and his logic of "why wouldn't the bigger brands go after this". I certainly can't speak for them but I DO know how production works along with cost-breakdown, margins and the multi-step ladder of manufacturing, distribution, dealer network to the end user - what I'm saying is, those brands would have to set their MSRP too high for any consumer to bite. In our case, our compound costs us 3.5x over a traditional compound. That adds up and even more so when there are many more layers of distribution than we deal with (we do not use distributors for example, this helps us keep costs down, employee independent sales reps to sell our product to your local dealer, and keep our MSRP where it is).
    So there is a pretty deep explanation on several subjects; hope this helps.

      Hey MTX,
      Thank you for the response, much appreciated.
      Like I said in the video, when they were working, your pads were the best. I absolutely loved them. Your communication has always been great. Hell, you responding to this video, I find amazing. The whole issue was that we could not sort out the braking problems with the MTX Gold Pads and to resolve the issues we just had to change pad brand/compounds and the issues never popped up again. I think if it was easier for me to access the MTX pads and swap them out for another set to try, I would have, but it was a little more complicated being in Canada with shipping and customs.
      If you would like to set something up off or on YT, just drop me an email at ridingthrulife@shaw.ca
      Thanks
      Todd

      I would gladly buy these if you will replace them if(when) they squeal I have tried a few different pads, shimano metal were the best so far. When I lived in MI, occasional cleaning with IPA and sandpaper worked OK. I now retired to WA and I ride my fatbike along the Pacific ocean every day. Salt contamination takes about 2 weeks and all pads I have tried squeal. Latest trial was Geckors ceramic pads from amazon. Took them 2 weeks, now you can hear me coming when I hit the brakes. Warning! If you do offer Contamination Frustration to me you will be replacing mine very, very often.

    I had the same experience. The pads have a smooth controlled feel and are super quiet, but they lost all power and were super scary to ride on. I'm now back to OEM pads. I live and ride in Pemby too so maybe it's out moon dust? Who knows.

    Interesting review. Been running the Reds for 2 years now … with some hefty summer downhill bike park riding. I live in SoCal so everything is always dry and dusty. The reds far out performed the metallic SRAM pads with both heat dissapation and longevity not to mention very quiet in wet condition vs the metallic non stop scream. The only issue I can say was I had at the end of one summer some significant break fade on super long runs. Did a break bleed and that resolved it. In fact after the bleed probably the best month of breaking I ever had on that bike. And I didn’t change a thing on the pads or rotors. I’ve not tried the golds so can’t say how much they differ. But the reds made me love SRAM brakes after initially hating them.

    I bought mtx pads, gold and red. Getting them to norway was pricey, like 300usd. My newly installed trp dhr evo with stock organic were pretty good, altough lacking power in the front. I have run the trp for a few runs on the organic, then I switched to mtx gold(left rear as it was as it locked up too easily already). ...After seeing too many yt vids about brakes, I got the impression that my rotor would not be optimal for new pad material, so I sanded the rotor to get rid of the organic material. After bedding the mtx gold, i was'nt immediatly impressed, they seemed to perform about the same as the organic I had, if not sligthly worse(less power). Its also autumn and quite wet, rainy, so I had my first run today; They don't like getting wet, so they squeal, but not super loud atleast. It takes a descent with a decent amount of speed to get rid of the squealing, and when I went trough a puddle it was all there again ofc. So basicly squealing noises most of the time on my run. They also seem to have poor power in the beginning of a descent. I pushed super hard, just to test, and there were nowhere near enough power to send me otb. Could getting a new rotor for new pad materials be that sensetive? I didnt feel like throwing away a set of "brand new" trp 223 rotors, so I thought sanding them was enough. Also, the stock organic pads were more quiet than the mtx golds and squealed less in wet/rain . I'm going to save my other mtx golds for summer(when it's dry) and try on a new rotor, but for now, i'm considering installing my organic pads back. Kinda feel i bought into a fad with these pads. However my canyon dude has a set of brand new mtx reds and brand new rotors, so maybe that will work better. I will say that during bedding in these red, they did'nt feel like anything special, again kind of lacking in power, this with code rs 4 piston. Probably wont get any better in the woods with mud and puddles, but time will tell. My favourite brakes so far has been my Maghura MT5 for modulation and "early on power".

      Thanks for the info Erich. It sounds like you’ve had an interesting experience with them as well. Maybe not for the better though? I am not sure if using new rotors will solve all your problems, did not for me. It might be worth reaching out to mtx directly as they are pretty responsive, though it sounds like shipping is so expensive it might not be worth it? I have not bothered trying another set as I paid customs etc plus shipping for mine as well so I don’t want to go thru the same problems for that price. Since going back to my standard pads I have not had one of the problems all year that I continually had with the MTX so I either had a faulty set or they don’t like the conditions I ride in??? Who knows. Good luck and keep me posted as to how it turns out. 👍🤟

      @@RidingThruLife Thx for such a quick response! I see you ride in condtions that are kind of opposite from me so abit worrying you also have issues. I read about others having issues in dry condtions with glazing. @@erichbachman7363 no problem, thanks for taking the time to comment. 😁🤟 It’s interesting as MTX use the lack of squeal and how quiet the brakes are as a selling point. I do ride in the wet quite a bit as well I just don’t usually film as it’s usually darker and the camera lens gets water on it. At least that’s what I tell myself but it also could be that I ride 10 times slower than I already do when it’s wet!! 🤣 but you are right it did seem to be in the dry when I always had problems though they weren’t quiet in the wet either but I think they were already ruined at that point.
      Keep in touch. I bet there are some amazing trails in 🇳🇴 !!

    I've been running the MTX red's for a while with my Code RSC's. I am about 210lbs are ride pretty steep PNW terrain. Only put a couple hundred miles on them (mostly in dry and dusty summer conditions), but so far they have been problem free. They do seem to have a little less bite and overall power compared to the OEM metallics. I picked up some new 220mm HS2 rotors and some MTX gold's to test out, but have not gotten around to swapping them out yet thanks to snow covering most my local trails right now.

    I too am having similar issues but mostly with noise / super loud train horn style howling.
    I had used brand new pads mtx gold with brand new TRP rotors in my dhr brakes. Bed them in and squeal, howl etc, but man did they bite and bite predictably for long downhills too. I’m heavy and ride a full fat emtb
    Shit mtx an email and they sent out a new set. They mentioned (and I’ve heard this from others as well) that it could be the TRP rotors and whatever costing maybe they use. - so I tossed some sram 220/200 rotors on, brand new mtx pads again, and same issue but only on the rears this time.
    I continued to try sanding and alcohol or acetone per MTX’s recommendations, but nada . After just 20 miles, the pads looked glazed so I chucked em. Put purple galfers in and eh, they’re good, and can handle the heat but done offer the same bite or level of control as mtx
    I’ve ordered one more set of new to rotors and mtx pads - again- to try and figure this out.
    I love the way the mtx pads handle how I ride, which is still creeping down steeps and they need to hold my bike and my weight, and they do, the best ever, but they’re absolutely finicky …. I dunno

      So today, brand new TRP race rotors, cleaned with acetone and installed new mtx gold pads…..again. Bed them in. Got howling again during bed in but it went away soon thereafter. Did a 17 mile ride with some steep descents. About mile 14, HHHOOWWWWLL …. It’s back with a vengeance. All dry riding no mud or water or anything. The brakes still have a good initial bite, then as you progress through the level pull they start to howl, and I lose power, then if I keep going on pulling, the howling stops and the wheels lock up.
      St this point I’m done. I’ve now tried three brand new sets of mtx gold, on three different types of brand new rotors.
      These are the only pad I’ve tried that howls like this…… back to galfer purples for me

      Interesting, especially with "Quiet" being one of their big claims. Sorry it didn't work out but it sounds like you did everything possible to give them a chance. • @anthonynazzal1958
      @anthonynazzal1958 4 місяці тому +1

      I ran galfer purple on my older levo and liked them. They’re good pads that don’t seem to heat soak like other pads, but don’t have the same bite as the mtx gold. But yes they’re good and worth a try
      lol, I had called TRP and discussed a completely unrelated issue on my other bike that has TRP dhr, (bleeding issue since resolved) and they recommended that I try the TRP red pads. - which I did on this current bike……. And yeah, don’t run them. They bed in well bite well but on longer downhill, they overheated and I lost most of my power, which was scary. - TRP gold metallics are ok tho
      I’m also going to try upping the rear rotor size to a 220 lol

    I had exactly the same experience with mtx golds. I had to replace my oem sintered pads at whistler and the LBSs there only had MTX golds. I reluctantly bought them and was initially very impressed with them. Over the months, they kept constantly glazing and losing performance. I went through several cycles of sanding my brake surfaces and degreasing the pads. Same thing, works well for a month, then extremely poor performance.
    I’ve since switched back to oem sintered pads.

    Hello, thanks for the MTX videos.
    Maybe there is a solution to the problem. I also bought a pair, Magura MT7 Red label. I haven't tried it myself, but I think it's the paint on the edge of the pad, that could be causing the problem. If I buy a factory one, there is no paint on the edge.
    Of course, I don't know what kind of material the paint is made of, but I suspect that it doesn't like high temperatures, it melts, spreads on the disc and that's it.
    So I'll definitely sand it off by hand, not with a machine, and I'll see how it goes.
    If you think you can try it, I think you can provide a more accurate opinion than me.

    • @RidingThruLife
      @RidingThruLife  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Viktor, thank you so much for the response and idea. It totally could be the paint and that is something I never even thought of. I am away from the pads at the moment but will check it out and see how it looks and keep you posted. 🤟😃

      @unasz84 2 роки тому +1

      @@RidingThruLife Thanks for the reply. Good to hear from you. :)
      Also, I advise you not to use the old disc.
      Because if the paint is really the source of the problem, if it has burned onto it, it will be difficult to sand it off.
      Also, the paint would also explain why the bedding process was short.
      Now that I've sanded it down, I expect the normal bedding process to return.
      At the moment, the weather is not the best for testing here in Austria. Winter is coming :) so testing may be delayed.

      @RidingThruLife  2 роки тому +1

      @@unasz84 Ya, I don't think the discs are contaminated by the paint unless the Shimano pads I am using now are not bothered by it as I have had zero issues since sanding and switching back to the Shimano pads.
