I am so glad you are still at it! I was really sad when Creg Adams decided to stop filming weddings. But I feel like I relate to you better anyway. Great job, I love these ideas. I think I just added something else to my camera bag!
So helpful, thank you!
I just used a prism for the first time at my last wedding. Love it!

great video! I am using some prisms at the moment for a shoot, to give it a dream like feel!
Thanks for this! One of my students just showed me a prism like this a few weeks ago. I thought it was super cool and have been wanting to know more. I didn’t realize it had use for video.
You’re welcome!!
Rock it, Matt! Love the quick tips.
Thanks Carl!
Your tip to have a wide f stop made a massive difference in my test shots. Thanks!
I never thought I needed a prism before watching this. Thanks Matt 😂😉😎⚡
Thank you so so much for sharing your skills!
This is actually a great lesson on how to use a gadget that is (for what I've seen) mostly used by "non-professional/hobby" photographers in a professional way. I am excited to use this thing more now thank you so much!
Really good video Thank you!! 🙏👍
Super helpful, thanks!
Good stuff man! That's a great tip!
Great Tip
Thank you
Great short video 🙌🏼🙌🏼love a good prism shot! It’s sweet seeing what could be done to spice up prep shots. We’ve even used an accessory mount to attach one when shooting with a monopod or ronin.
Cool! What mount?! That sounds neat!
Hey! We use an Ikan accessory arm to mount the prism. We don't do any hand held and found this works great for our style. Here's a link to the arm: www.amazon.com/Ikan-MA211-11-Inch-Articulating-Black/dp/B00LPJ1LP8/ref=sr_1_33?srs=3031403011&ie=UTF8&qid=1518472735&sr=8-33&keywords=Ikan
Great video!!! Thank you so much :)
LOVIN PRISMS TOO! ! Nice video !!
Hi Matt,
First of all thanks for such good tutorial videos. Everyone in our team loves you very much.
In our team we don't have much gadgets to achieve the most creative output.
But we always try to follow your tips, tricks & ideas.
Your videos really inspire us to achieve a better output.
Thanks a lot. Please keep posting more .
Thanks so much! 😁
Great video Matt, who would have thought an inexpensive prims could create such cool effects.
Awesome. Thank you Matt.
Great idea! I ordered the 8" one so that I that I will have more of a handle to hold on to...
Great video!

Thanks Adam!
Hi Matt! That was an action packed, full of information only in 4:50!! Just the info I needed, thank you.
Thanks Carlos!
I only like it when the prism is very subtle in the shot like at 2:30ish. But you got some cool ideas for this glas, thanks!
I love the creativity, I’ll have to try it on my next wedding! (:
Thanks Steven!
Great tips man!
I loved It! Hugs from Brazil
I loved this... I always forget about using props.. I think for it’s remembering to put this stuff in my camera bag! Really great tip about the transition.. Thanks dude 😀
Thanks Alex!
Thx matt. A huge one there. Awesome
This is fantastic - what a creative idea! Love the ability to do that in-camera, rather than just relying on a trick in post - this makes it truly WHAT the camera saw - very cool! 🙂
Thanks Brian! 😁👍
very cool. thanks!
great stuff ordering my own now ! :))
Love your work!
Thanks dude!
Awesome video!
Any other weird wedding filmmaking accessories you want me to talk about? :) You can buy the prism here! amzn.to/2E9Ddhq
Hey beard buddy. I almost watch all your tutorials. Its awesome and more sense.thanks buddy.. New film maker here
Thank you Matt 😊
I was wondering for so long how people get this type of shots..Veryyyyyy helpful video .. thank you
Great tips!
Thanks for another awesome and informative video, Matt! Any plans on a video about camera stabilizers? That seems to be one of my biggest faults!
Hey Abigail! I have a video about the Robin-M I made in 2016, but otherwise I haven’t made a ton of stuff about stabilizers yet. Planning on more in the future though!
Love my prism. Great video!
Thank you!!
That was truly helpful!
Matt! I haven't though about using a prism at a wedding! I might have to try that this year!! I know that you and White in Revery do it and it looks amazing! BTW Happy Friday!
Thank you!
dude your the man!
Hey Matt, really love your channel! I would love it if you made a video of the essential gear needed to film a wedding for someone just starting out. I currently shoot fitness videos and photography with a Panasonic GH5. However, I have no experience shooting weddings and I am curious about the barebones essentials for shooting one. Thank You !!!
Hey thanks so much! If you check out my kit page linked in the description I have kits for my recommended gear for beginners. :)
Awsm creative goodness
And you got a new sub bro... Cheers.. cool tips..
You're awesome!
This is Brilliant.
Haha great video, I ordered my last year on AliExpress, it’s almost arriving, this video came like a blessing tip.
Haha oh man Aliexpress! So much good stuff on there but shipping takes FOREVER!
Hey thanks for the great quality videos. I'm new to the scene and am interested in a Mavic Pro but live within a 5 mile radius of a small airport do you have any advice on how I could proceed and be able to fly on my own property (20 plus acres) as a hobbyist?
I'm kinda mad that I never thought of this, but it makes me love the Mattster even more, so it's all good.
😂😂😂
Holy crap you have helped my video skills like by 100!
I was pumped to learn more about this when Sam Hurd spoke about it but there wasn't much. I got this and photo crystal ball coming in the mail.
Nice!!!
dude its a premium quality of prism :D ,extremly cool man..
you are a legend that is all
i bought a prism because of this video... great tip.
Thank you!
Thanks Selene!
I've got one of these, they're great! I don't call it a prism though, I call it my "Morphin Crystal" - it sounds cooler that way.
😂😂😂 love the name
Thanks Matt! First time with your videos - fantastic and to the point. One question I have - so is the prism fairly useless on F4 and up? I'm only going to be able to use one lens for a period of time coming up here, just wondering if I should just wait until I have an F1.8 to invest in the prism.
Cheers!
Hey! The prism won’t work quite as well, it won’t be blurry enough. But you’re welcome to try it. :)
Great idea! Love it! Question: how long are your wedding films?
Hey Armando! Film lengths are listed on my wedding filmmaking site Filmstrong.com under “collections”
SO CREATIVE ^^
Cool tip, Matt....
Hey man thanks for this. Do you think it would work with a smartphone camera? I'm thinking maybe a smaller prism?
I doubt it. Main reason is you need the shallow depth of field at f2 and below on a full frame sensor to take advantage of it.
cheers fot that one bro
That is one serious beard.
Also, thanks for the prism tips!
Hey man, thanks for the amazing idea! Would you suggest using it for a portrait lens or wide?
I usually use it for 50mm or tighter.
Thanks man, I've just ordered some vintage primes and I can't wait to use them with the prism.
just subs for your talent bro
What with a MFT (2x crop) camera like the GH5, do we need a lens like the fast Voigtlander to receive the same effect (without hard borders) of a f2 on full frame ?
I use it when taking photos...i will try for videos 😉
Do it!!!
WOW i have to get one of those :O
Do it!!! 😁
that transition tip!
😁👍
hi how are you can we do this 85mm f1.8 ?
Ha! It's like a different, creative form of lens whacking.
Haha basically!
Without getting dust in your sensor lol
Nice trick.
