I was able to save $3000 last year, and restarted the cash envelope system four months ago, thank goodness I saved, because I found out today that my car needs about $900 in repairs! I'm glad I'm not going to be broke due to the repairs thanks to saving all year!
Stay out of thrift stores. Little things add up if you buy things you don’t need and it doesn’t show up in your budget. Also take a different way home or to work if you stop for fast food. Bring a snack so you aren’t hungry on the way home or make a smoothie or breakfast sandwich to go the night before. Cook your meals for the week on Sunday and pack them.
We used to get fast food on grocery shopping day because we felt like there was no time to put everything away and then cook something. However it was costing over $20 each week-over $1000 a year! So we made sure to set aside leftovers or made sandwiches to eat as soon as we got home. Healthier and much cheaper.
1. I combine trips for errands 2. I am doing a $35/ week challenge for my groceries. This is my second week doing it , I saved $.13 last week so I am starting this week with $35.13. 3. I am combining my food budget with my budget for cat food and litter which will save me an additional $5 over and above my savings using other coupons. 4. I stay home often. People tease me but why waste money on gas if I really don't need to go anywhere ? 5. I switched insurance companies and will save $330 this year. 6. Clothing these days is most often from Walmart. I went into the store one day for groceries 😂😂 and realized my bra, panties, socks, jeans, blouse, jacket and wallet were all from WALMART 😂😂😂 . My purse was from a thriftstore, and my boots had been $5 @ a surplus store. My gloves were from Dollar Tree. 7. My car was a gift secondhand and is 16 years old and in good repair. 8. I eat well but inexpensive. 9. I host a Facebook group on Frugal Living which keeps me on my toes as I want to be a good example.
my income dropped by $200 fortunately I have been watching these vids, and the shock was less than it could have been. I praise God for you and your videos.
THE BEST WAY to save money is to give yourself a monthly allowance (I call it 'housekeeping') - and DO NOT deviate from it. In 1973 when I bought my first house my 'housekeeping money' was £30 a month and I used it for food, petrol and personal spends. Over the years the total has increased, obviously, but I still do it to this day. I paid off my mortgage aged 34 and retired aged 55 so it works.
I encourage everyone to do their own research with the cut up produce. I think cut up used to always be more expensive but I’ve done some research in my area and once you remove any outer layer/leaves/inedible core that you pay for in weight, sometimes buying the packaged version is cheaper. I found this is true with cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage in my area
Take away coffee here is anywhere from $5.50 upwards. My wallet has 5 sections which I use for cash budget items. ie personal allowance, pharmacy, dog food. Once it’s gone it’s gone. So much easier than trying to track via a debit card. Also having several bank saving accounts for setting aside for other expenses.
Yesterday at work cleaning an air bnb the owner told my boss and I to take everything that was left behind there was vegan sausage and burger patties large party size bags of brand name chips that were 3/4 full still along with produce and other goods I must’ve come home with $50 worth of stuff lol. Even 1/4 full bottle $60 tequila I don’t drink but parents do lol
Sometimes convenience equals money saving. In my area, people would not buy the premade salads and they were marked down extensively. I could use them and add to them, and it was a quick easy lunch. Also living alone, I would buy a bag of onions and they end up going bad before I eat them. Sometimes it is cheaper to just buy chopped onions or celery or carrots than buy a bag of them. It decreases food waste and I use fresher food. Living alone, those things just makes more sense to me.
The way to avoid food waste with bulk items like onions is to chop them up when you get home or with in a day or two of purchase. Getting a manual food chopper makes it much easier with less tears. I have one that I used last night to process bell peppers and a couple of tomatoes for salads. You can freeze in portions for use in future recipes and keep out what you’ll use for the week.
Watching from Australia..love your videos! It’s very difficult here cash is being fazed out really it’s becoming difficult to use cash here.. although I will persevere as cash is king 😊
I have a lot of food allergies and am allergic to some of the cups used for hot beverages. So, I bring my own tea bags and sugar(yep, I have to use a specific brand do sugar….) with a thermal cup, which means I generally don’t have to pay for the hot water I get from a gas station or fast food place. Now, if they ask me to pay for it, it’s usually not more than $0.50. While not actually free, it does save money because I’m not paying $2 or more for a basic drink like hot tea.
Never use your Card on a vending machine. It will track you... and I wouldn't be surprised next time you pass a Vending Machine it WILL whisper your name at ultra-high frequency so you hear it subliminally and automatically purchase from it!! I had to call the Police because this vending machine kept stalking me and was waiting outside my window saying "You really DO want a can of Cola , RIGHT NOW at 3am in the morning...you want to drink my innards...buy it, buy it to from me now!!!"
Hello my dear family. How are you doing? I'm doing great so far. It's day 7 Of Jan in SA. Its a rainy day here this morning. My budget is working out well so far. Tx for all the amazing tips.
I’m a nurse and usually the only break I get is the few minutes I leave the unit to get a Starbucks coffee at our cafe. I’ve tried to not get it, but I’m having trouble. Just leaving the unit for a walk doesn’t work because I’m night shift and there’s nowhere to walk to without looking odd…except the cafe. Any suggestions?
Bring your coffee. Wear headphones and follow an audio book novel that takes you away. While you’re off your feet, do counter stretches of your feet and lower legs. Refresh your socks with wick-aways that provide support. Regroup and come back renewed.
@ I have access to free coffee. I can’t wear headphones at work and unless I leave the unit I don’t get any downtime. That’s the problem. Getting a coffee is my few minutes to escape the unit.
That is a problem with hospital night shifts. If you don't smoke or have an addiction (caffeine, sugar, etc), you don't get a break! It's been that way for at least 30 years.
Hi 👋🏽 I went and watched the video about lunch/breakfast at home. Can you maybe do a video with Julie as she makes the bagels and English muffins from scratch? Maybe you can get three videos out of it (one for the ingredients/grocery shopping and the other two actually making the bagels then English muffins)!
My mom came back home after a month away. I had to buy extra groceries for her so I had spend more than planned. As a result my extra money is almost gone. Trying to hold on to my savings so it will be tight.
Israel had Starbucks and I tried it many years ago, but alas, no more Starbucks in Israel. I enjoy eating lunch out, but I'm too cheap...unless i want to treat a good friend for thrir b-day and then I pay for the both of us; or also their mom and sisters. As for cash, less and less cash is being used in Israel. I personally find that for me using my debit card is best because I then save the receipt and write it into a 'budget notebook' and I itemize what i bought. I buy ptoduce seasonally and i look for shopping sales baes on the food i normally would buy and enjoy; I do then buy a lot at one time; like if tilapia fish is on sale, I will ask if there is a limited amount i can buy and i will buy accordingly. I choose to not buy meat/poultry as i have difficulty cooking. But to each their own lifestyle. I did 'inherit' money from the US gov'mt court case but i continued to live my life off my Israeli Disability stipend; but I did tithe the money given as compensation from damages. I did finally, w the help of my one child, an adult daughter, to buy my apartment w discount from my Disability status based on all the necessary documents. I do have my daughter added to my bank account to help me w banking; like direct paymebt for Savings. My bills are all via direct payment. But a Medical Will or trying to learn where i can possibly save on my bills or shopping, i often talk w my daughter as well as a good friend for advice. Blessings, love and prayers for all, from Israel 🇮🇱. Peace for all on this Earth and in this World! Am Yisroel Chai =The Nation of Israel Lives/Israel Will Survive!
A coworker buys a Starbucks latte every day..she added it up & it was over $2, 500. She decided to go to work for them so she gets a free drink everyday...lol
Big difference between name brand and generic Synthroid. Doctor can order a blood test to determine how much medication is in your blood. For me, it's worth the name brand. I feel so much better.
Some stores give rewards where you can purchase things for free with points you have earned. We get our free chips rhat way bbn usually. They have a set number of items you can get during a month or two. You get points buying groceries there.
Agree that you need to plan your spending, especially if you get your credit cards paid off and have extra money in your checking so you think you can afford things you didn’t spend for and waste it on things you really don’t NEED! Save it for emergencies or a used car when you might need it!
If you have any type of Health Insurance, put it directly into a checking account. When you pay for your bill, it comes out automatically and you see it when your statement is billed out to you. Ask about benefits as well. I use to send 3 months worth of bills. The Insurance would give a percentage back. If I really really want to buy something, I CANNOT wait for a cheaper deal that I may have to wait up to 2 weeks or longer for. I must have it ASAP no matter what. That's why I have Amazon Prime.
Waiting is an under-rated savings strategy.

How many American people’s wages and opportunities are being suppressed by HB-1 workers in tech and healthcare. here in North east…
Horrible comment
Our company is sending jobs overseas to India and not just tech jobs. People are laid off here. These are highly paid professional jobs like compliance, risk, and operations. We do no business in India due to the nature of our work. It is a huge problem for our future. This is happening with other companies as well.
