Y'all are EDUCATING ME in the comments! I love it! I love to see it! I wish I could pin multiple comments for the sake of everyone learning, but instead I will pin this one and encourage you to scroll through to see multiple commenters weigh in! TLDR: England is not Celtic, except for Cornwall, Wales does not celebrate Samhain, Samhain originated in IRELAND and is still celebrated to this day, there are most likely similar traditions in other Celtic nations, All Soul's Day and All Saint's Day are TWO DIFFERENT DAYS! All Soul's Day is on November 2nd while All Saint's Day is on November 1st, and All Hallow's Eve is on the 31st of October (separate from the aforementioned holidays). Add on if necessary!
Samhain is one of the three day festivals in Ireland, and traditionally the night before the holidays is when you do preparations so that's why the 31st is important. Carving pumpkins originated with carving potatoes and turnips to keep out bad spirits while the veil is thin. And during these three days, souls will come to visit so as you mentioned lighting a candle to welcome them is great. It is also a harvest festival, so big meals are made with the harvest from the year, and the meals can be used as offerings for your ancestors. It also was traditionally celebrated a little bit later in November, usually on the 12th, which some people still do. Happy Samhain!!!
that's gonna be a big YES for the graveyard etiquette video PWEEEEEASE!!!
Yes please
I second this
As far as Historians can tell... it was a Pan-Celtic (All Celtic Country) holiday.
Thank you!!!!!

Took the words out of my mouth 😂

Ireland claims to be the birthplace of Halloween. I think the significant origins of Samhain originated in Ireland and other ancient celts contributed to the evolution of the familiar traditions. So I think you could either say Ireland is where it originated, or just among the ancient celts as a whole.
Edit to add: I'll be taking my mini goblins trick-or-treating, hopefully spending some time in nature if weather permits, and remembering my Mom who passed on Nov 1 six years ago 🧡💐
As a baby witch, I wasn't sure what to so for All Hallow's Eve, but when I found your video, it sounded a lot like the traditions we have in Mexico for Dia de Muertos! We create altars for lost family and friends, we light candles, leave food out as offerings, and visit graveyards where we celebrate the ones we lost and how they lived. We break bread together, dance together, and stay respectful of our ancestors visiting us. I guess I never thought of how close ancient Halloween traditions can be to Dia de Los Muertos. It's fun to think how the macabre is definitely all around the world, and we each approach death with respect yet fascination. Every nation just shows it in different ways.
I love hearing about Dia de Muertos! It will never be a holiday I celebrate (because I am not Mexican!) but I love seeing the way different cultures celebrate.
@@ChaoticWitchAunt if you live in Colorado or ever find yourself here during November 1st or 2nd, I'd invite you! There are also lots of parades, parties, and even art galleries that you can join! I love sharing my culture with other folks if they want to!
We also Come to visit our ancestors on all saint's day. We light some candles, we also make som wreaths with flowers and leaves, clean and decorate their tombstones etc. 😊 we celebrate 3 days in a row. One day is for making wreaths, second day for cleaning and third one for visiting graves and lighting the candles.
Can I just say I love how you fact check yourself instead of doing that thing most youtubers do and saying "I think, I'm not so sure, don't quote me on that" 🥰
One) Love the cats
Two) Aesthetic tea video we love
Three) GRAVEYARD ETIQUETTE?! YES PLEASE
Thank you! I'm a baby witch, and I was just thinking about what to do this year!
Edit: I'd love to see a graveyard etiquette video if/when you get the chance!
the Celts made it to the Iberian peninsula too, so especially in the north of Spain there are celebrations that derive from Samhain. I mean, there are different celebrations all over the country for All Saints Day (mostly centered around honouring our deceased loved ones and eating autumn goods), but the Celtic influence is specific to the northern regions and it affects other celebrations throughout the year as well
Thank you, Nat!
All Hallows' Eve is also a great time for contemplating your own mortality. I use it as a yearly reminder to review my advance directive, will, and death plan. If your are looking for more traditional activities, you can make soul cakes, donate your time or money, make a lantern to guide lost souls, and sing traditional souling carols.
All Soul's Day in Switzerland is usually celebrated on the 2nd November but since only the Toussaint (All Saint's Day) on the 1st is a holiday here, we usually go on the 1st in the cemetery and we care for the graves and light candles and buy chrysanthemum to put on the graves. I plan to go with my family on the graves of our passed ones and I want to light some dressed candles and that's probably it. ♡
omg in Mexico we do the same for dia de muertos or xantolo !!
It took me a minute to realize the sugar cubes were sugar cubes lol. At first I thought they were mini marshmallows and I was sooo confused!
😂😂😂
I thought that too lol
Oh, a graveyard etiquette video would be GRAND. ✨
I attended a Samhain ritual through the Temple of Witchcraft this evening and I, too, will visit a graveyard to honor my mother who passed two years ago on Samhain. I’d love a video about graveyard etiquette, too, puh-leaze!
I'm glad folks were here to point out the two different holidays.
here in Sicily which is an Italian island/region we celebrate by going to cemeteries and visiting our loved ones who passed away
Haha the furbabies wanting attention is so dang cute! Thank you for this video! ❤
Hey there. All Hallows and All Souls are two different Days, in the roman-catholic church, so these Names are not interchangeable. All Hallows (Nov. 1st) is the day to remember the Saints and All Souls (Nov. 2nd) is the day to remember the faithful departed. All Hallow's Eve is the night before All Hallows and it has little to no relation to roman-catholic traditions, having said that All Hallow's Eve/ Halloween evolved in (catholic) Ireland and may or may not be a way in that the irish-celts saved some of their pre-christian Samhain celebrations. Hope this helps.
I'm a witch but I've been raised roman-catholic.
AHHH Thank you so much. This is wonderful!
@@ChaoticWitchAunt you're very welcome. love your videos.
And lets not forget the CeltIberian Peninsula! (Spain). Galicia is the Spanish word for Gaelic, and if you visit that area of Spain, you will find bagpipes, clogging, and their own language. 😊👍 Yes! to graveyard etiquitte.
No, the Spanish word for Gaelic is gaélico. Galicia is a region in Spain.
you uploaded did RIGHT WHEN i was decorating my altar for samhain 💀
Hi Frankie I just wanted to say I discovered your channel like two weeks ago I think and I just want to say I'm absolutely obsessed with your content! I've been binge watching a lot of your videos and you've helped me learn so much. The first video I watched by you was talking about saints and it completely changed the way I do my practice now. Thank you for showing me the wonders of folk magic and everything it has to offer. I can't wait to see what other content you make 😊 ✨new fan!
Thank you so much, Mary!
As a child, I thought that trick and tread were the English words for Süßes (sweet) and Saueres (sour).
I thought that it was only translated, and it never occurred to me that other words could also be used for it.
This misunderstanding led to strange conversations with English-speaking friends during the summer holiday 😅.
Thanks for the helpful video, I now have ideas of what I can do on the days.
It's nice to be able to celebrating a few more holidays because i now know what can be done on those days.
We set places around our table for passed loved ones, it's a lovely time of year 🔮🙏
As a Crone 50+, A Witch by ancestry ;🎃 ritualistically initiated into a Coven 38yrs now.. Blessed Be this All Hallows Eve🎃❤
Usually when I’m off I pass out candies 🍭 & tooth brushes ( don’t knock it the kidos love it & the moms appreciate it).. then I fire up my cauldron with sage and oils and just whisper into the smoke my blessings for my loved ones past🎃❤🙏🏼 burning candles 🕯️ and incense on my alter indoors 🍷🧙♀️
First, I love that you call you cat Stinky! My cats name is “Indy” but i call him fat man😂
Second, Samhain is also practiced by German/Scandinavian Asatru
Third, I’d love a graveyard etiquette vidoe!
That makes sense because the Celts were also found on the European mainland in parts of what are now Germany. Happy Samhain!
Please yes graveyard etiquette!
I plan on lighting a candle for my father. I just lost him last August. Prayers for the loved ones we lost🙏
Llewellyn's website has a sale going this weekend and I was able to order bad ass ancestors for under 12 dollars. Thank you for sharing your experience
Hes so sweet! Thank you for sharing
For All Hollows Eve I spent the day with a friend. We had fun. I had a pain flare for Dias de los Muertos so I just did NaNoWriMo. But Yesterday I took some time to put a very small sculpture, a candle, and a cake in a spot on the Minecraft server I play on for a fellow person of our community that passed away in 2020.
This is the perfect thing to watch as I can't do my usual Samhain ritual because it's raining outside. :( Always good to pick up more information!
Hi!! Samhain is also the last harvest before winter starts!!
I love Benji he adds to the ambience
Thx for this video ! def gave me ideas xp Would LOVE a graveyard etiquette video ! Also I'd like to add that the Britons (in France) are also considered Celtic (they're some of my ancestors !) ! :)
Thanks sm for this vid Frankie.
I 100% would LOVE a graveyard etiquette video. PLEASE. And protective measures especially
Celts originated in Western Europe. It's really interesting how far the Celts have travelled. They even made it to Turkey. I find it kind of "sad", that they are mostly associated with Ireland.
hey! this vid came just in time for me to not get gaslit abt the pronunciation of samhain, cant wait to see what i’ll be adding to my halloween traditions~
in my country, our version of Halloween is,,dušíčky,,. Basically, we go to our relative's graves and clean the grave, light candles, etc. There is no costume, no trick or treat.
definitely post s graveyard etiquette video!!!!! and the protective measures before you go ❤
In the Philippines, we visit our deceased loved ones in graveyards on all Saints' Day but some families do sleepovers (in cemeteries, yes) the night before on Halloween.
The celts were also in parts of Austria, Czech Republic, France, Spain and Germany - not only in Ireland etc.. A lot of celtic culture was, for example, found in Hallstatt (Austria) and there's also a time period called after it -> the Hallstatt culture!
what perfect timing! i was just watching your samhain video from last year and noticed you uploaded a new one!
Former Catholic here, all souls day and all saints day are 2 different hollidays. All saint day is celabrated on November 1st and all souls day on November 2.
WELL I got so much to do!!!
yes please to the graveyard etiquette 😍☝️
in spain, in galicia it’s called samaín, and it’s still celebrated, we do queimada, which is actually a spell and we do magosto, search it if ur interested
My dog is named Mac but since I only call him Stinky when he's not being naughty he now responds better to Stinky. Also reading the Mabinogi is a lit time I swear all of ancient celtic mythology was on acid
That college sounds like the worst to me 😂 I call it Hel’s day as I’m a Norse pagan and it’s her feast day as she’s the ultimate queen of the dead 🥰❤️❤️❤️❤️
My cat was supposed to be named Binx but he was so long and stretchy we just kept calling him long boi and calling him anything else felt weird.
all hallow's EVE, all hallow's DAY, hallowed be thy name holy be your name: all holy's day, all saint's day
Thanks for sharing your rituals! Just found ur channel
YES IVE BEEN DYING FOR A GRAVEYARD ETIQUETTE VIDEO
I would love a graveyard etiquette video, thank you!
Also good catholic practice is going to graveyard and praying rosary for the holy souls in purgatory on All souls day. Im just going to visit the graves as I go with my family, but if i went alone id probably pray rosary there. :)
Cemetery etiquette, yes!
I love Stinky and Benji give them love
Tysm I was literally just considering learning more about and celebrating Samhain today!!
Hiii, I'm never this early!
This video is peak tier chaos.
Love it!
*INFODUMP WARNING*
In Slavic lands there was tradition of "Dziady" (this word can be translated both as grandparents and wandering beggars and there's reason for it) this time of year. It was called "Greater" or "Autumnal", as smaller holiday of this kind took place in the spring. During this week all souls of loved ones can visit their families and it's custom to light them candle so they can find their way home. Also there was custom to light litte fire on the place of burial, adding herbs like garden thyme, southern wormwood and dried fruit of wild rose as offerings. This traditions merged later into lighting candles on the grave. Other custom involved that everyone passing liminal space (crossroads, bridges etc.) or death/execution (gallows etc.) was obliged to add some wood to the pile that will be set on fire and should be burning all night long to prevent resentful spirits from returning to the land of living. This holiday started on 29th of october and ended on 2nd of november, with peak celebration taking place on 31st october (most probable dates). On this specific day there was custom to invite wandering beggars and passerbys into the home and giving them food as it was believed that with invited guest souls of loved ones can enter too. In some regions it was also believed that those souls can take shape of beggars and unknown passerbys and it was customary to let in anyone who will knock on the door. On the "Dziady" feast it was always at least one place and plate left free, either for ancestor soul or suprise guest. This tradition is now only thriving on the Christmas Eve (and noone is actually coming) as it was custom to invite ancestors for winter solistice too. After feast all leftovers was let in place and it could not be cleaned until the morning. In some regions feast had place on graveyard instead. Food and drinks for dearly beloved souls involved honey, groats, eggs and mead, later kutia(en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kutia) and vodka. Also favourite dish or drink of dead person could be added. During graveyard feast it was customary that people eating these foods will pour or drop part of them on the grave. During feast people where obliged to behave calmly and do not make fast moves and loud sounds so they will not spook spirits. Also all cleaning after feast took place after all "Dziady"week passed, so ancestors can enjoy their part of meal. In the "Dziady" period there was also list of taboos. People cannot make any work involving spinning, knitting, weaving and sewing as it can bind wandering soul to the mortal realm, pouring dishwater outside the house, especially through the window or thereshold, as it could banish ancestor from the house, making fire in the fireplace in case if soul decided to enther the house through chimney are ones I could find
Yas to the graveyard etiquette
Literally the second Catholic-Wicca here... after A Victorian Witch. Feels kinda sad. But that's k. Everyone worships differently.😔
I got this quotation from The Great Cosmic Mother: Rediscovering The Earth’s Religion “By the third century B.C., much of the territory from what is now Turkey to Scotland and Ireland, and south through Spain, was Celtic.” It’s a great book.
I’m going to light a candle for my ancestors (I’ve been doing that daily). I’m going to leave them food offering. I’m going to meditate about them.
I would like to know cemetery etiquette.
I was going to mention All Saint’s Day is November 1 and All Soul’s day is November 2. I think the church added All Soul’s day because people were still honoring their ancestors instead of or in addition to the approved saints.
I'd be interested in a graveyard etiquette video!
I love that closed captions thought Samhain was salmon….
I LOVE THAT I DIDNT CATCH THAT
Salmon is my favorite holiday
[Long comment incoming 😆] All the Celtic peoples both in the British Isles and on the continent (Gaul = ancient France) celebrated Samhain. In Gaulish (I'm French by the way) it was called Samonios. All Celtic peoples had the same major festivals, I remember reading about them in a French history book about ancient Celtic civilization, and the book was written by 2 renowned historians specialized in Celtic studies. The Coligny Calendar (2nd century) that was found in France mentions the "3 nights of Samonios" so here it was celebrated on several days, with a specific focus on the nights. Gauls (and all Celts I think) believed the 24h day started at dusk. Just like they considered that the year started with the darker half.
As to the claim it originated in Ireland, it's not proven. Caesar also said that druids originated from Britain and were imported to Gaul/France. However, Gauls entered French territory in the 5th century BC and came from Switzerland/Austria and before that Central Europe. As they kept moving west they also settled in the British Isles. Then why would Samhain and druids originate from the Isles when they came from the continent? Celtic origins are quite mysterious. They were an Indo European people (along with the Italics, the Greeks, the Germanics, the Slavs, and the Indo Iranians) who, like all other Indo Europeans, ended up imposing their cultures and languages on Neolithic peoples when they migrated (Indo Europeans originated from north of the Black Sea/Russian steppes). The megalithic structures like Stonehenge were built by Neolithic people, not the Celts. So if it is true that Samhain and druids are from the Isles I think it could mean they are of Neolithic origins, not Indo European/Celtic...
There are some Irish people who claim they are totally indigenous and not related to the Celts that came from Central Europe... Debate still ongoing lol. Hell there are even Hindu nationalists in India who believe Druids came from India because an ancient Indian tribe called Druys (or something like that) moved west at some point in ancient times and never came back. And according to Caesar druids and Gauls in general believed in reincarnation... even though it is not a belief shared by other Indo Europeans except for Indians, but the Indo Europeans who settled in India were deeply influenced by local indigenous Dravidian and tribal cultures... 🤔🤔🤔🤔 So yeah all that to say Celtic origins are mysterious and we don't know what started where lol 😂
The graveyard etiquette is a good idea
“it says celtic but thats not specific” AH YES YOU FEEL MY PAIN. I JUST WANT RESOURCES ON SCOTTISH PAGANISH WHY DOES EVERY RESOURCE LEAD TO CELTIC SOUP (all the cultures smashed into one)
I'm French and very interested in specifically the Gauls but most books out there about ancient Celts are from the Irish perspective, or Welsh 😩
Same. I wish I could find more resources on Scottish Paganism. 😭
My adhd went so hard watching this
Yes graveyard etiquette
This was great🖤 I have covid right now so most of my plans for this Holiday got canceled, rip lol, but this gave me some great ideas! And some encouragement to get through this sickness lol
Sending love!

Please do a video of cemetery etiquette
My plans for this All Hallow's eve is to have a dumb supper, which consists of letters to those I knew in life that are now dead, which I then burn as offerings, and have a small get together with other witches or any other friend who wants to join.
please do the graveyard etiquette video!!!!
i'm northern irish but we still do a bunch of the old celtic samhain things even in the Ulster-scots & brittish parts. we do bonfires & have fireworks & down south their is a few places where they do the full thing. we still do carving but now pumpkins my granny rembers how they use to use turnips but they are harder to carve. she is also from the brittish part. um what else we also do the american things but like i prefer fireworks that i thought were gunshots till i looked out my window. why i don't know. ok done. algorithim help the channel
In Hungary we call it "All Saints Day".
And we don't have trick or treating :(.
We go out to the cemetery and fix the tombstones, rake the dirt around them, put fresh flowers on them and of course light candles on them which is really important.
Graveyard etiquette yes please!!!
Also, If you know, Does snow have the same properties of rainwater? This question has been rattling around my head for a few months now and I have no idea.
Also yes please graveyard etiquette!!
Thank you for your video
stinky is always a good name for a stinky animal💜😆
All Souls Day is Nov 2 following All Saints Day . So it's All Hallows Eve, All Saints Day, then All Souls Day.
Three whole holidays, very excited!
Would LOVE a graveyard etiquette video
👏grave👏yard👏vid 👏NOW 👏
Hi Stink cat !!!!
just a tip , consider draping some Halloween inspired fabric behind you . Halloween is a sacred time for many and yes deserves some pizzazz. cover your non related desk items with the fabric, make the video be separate from looking like you could be talking about nutrition or study habits. blessed be ,
woot!
Grave etiquette pls 👻🎃👻
Edit grilling some meat, watching "Halloween" movies, might enjoy some special treats!
POV: My agnostic partner *walks into the room* Me: *does strange witchcraft action* Partner: "Witch stuff?" *raises eyebrow* Me: "Witch stuff" lol
You accidentally reminded me about a rosary one of my grandparents had. I wonder if I could include that in a small prayer for my past loved ones. Think it’s a good idea?
Oh I love your tea cup so much. I thought those sugar cubes were marshmallows 😅❤
I love these videos so much. Thank you so much Frankie ❤
im going to a party with my bestiee
🤣
My pets are just as bad.
Thank you for the book recommendations.
Celts: Irish, Welsh, cornish, Manx and Scottish. England is not celtic as it was originally home to the Britons pre-norman invasion.
anyway celtic festivals were commonly celebrated across the various Isles, I'm from the Isle of man and celtic Manx tradition today mainly revolves around midsummer but most celtic festivals from lughnasadh to Yule were celebrated on the Isle of man. I also have Irish connections, samhain is as far as im aware originally an Irish festival, however more Irish history of the celts exists compared to other places.
England was Brythonic before the _Anglo Saxon_ invasion which pushed a lot of Celts west to Cornwall and across the Channel where they settled in Brittany, France (they named the region). The Normans conquered much later in the 11th and didn't change the demographics, it's only a bunch of nobles who went to settle there at William's court 😄
0:40 I know a dog his name isn't Stinky but we eventually just kept calling him Stinky know I call him that. In honor of the Cat you have nicknamed Stinky who acts a lot like my Stinky I got a pin of your familiar the fox with a knife in it's mouth pinned on fabric on my wall. Oh and Hello Stinky!
So my great-aunt did the same name thing you did with your cat with her granddaughter... And my second cousin's pet name is Stinky. It's questionable at best 😬
PLEASE DO THE GRAVEYARD ETIQUETTE
Benji is excited for the 31st hahah
I have 2 more people to add to my shrine this year. It's gonna be hard. Too manylost
