    I know there’s going to be some hateful comments and I’ll take full responsibility. But like I said, in a video, we show the good the bad we are humans we make mistakes. Maybe this mistake will help somebody in the future.
    I reached out to Lakeland in regards to this situation and let me tell you I was very pleased how quick of a response I got they even made a video going through all the motions of the spin. Talking about amazing customer service. They was quick to reply. Update video will be coming out on that soon.

    Although Sandi Brock raise sheep, much of the equipment she uses is very similar to what you have. She does turn the sheep completely on their backs which seems to calm them down. It would also be easier on your back as you wouldn’t have to bend over so much. She also uses electric hoof trimmers. Please watch some of her videos if you haven’t already. She does a great job and is very caring where her babies are concerned.

    • @shelljw

      Ah yes - Sandi Brock is brilliant isnt she - and her Sheep are very much trreated like your goats - they are family members and when the older ewes are past producing or if she has a favourite who cannot really deal with lambing or have issues and need retiring, they go into another paddock and are her special girls. I think too if you were to reach out to her, she would be happy to have a chat with you too.

    I used milk 150 goats twice daily. I learned to do my own hoofs. I found the easiest way was with them standing on something hard. Did it like you do horses one foot up at a time. I could put the foot down and see how it looked on the solid ground to see if it was correct, that the hoof was flat on the ground. After a bit I could do a goat in a few mins and move on. the worst was when I got new ones and some of the hoofs were in really bad shape, some looked like they had skis, you have to do them a bit at a time took a couple of weeks to get them done. Good luck with the way your doing it. Looks harder for me but if your ok with it great.

    • @ranziey8273
      @ranziey8273 3 місяці тому +1

      Electric trimmers may be an investment you want to make - but I would wait until you are more confident in how to shape the hooves as they will remove the nail (cartilage??) very quickly. Either way you need a stronger set of trimmers that are sharper for your hand's sake and the goats. As they say, a dull knife is much more dangerous for giving accidental cuts (and bad ones at that). A sharp knife/trimmers on the other hand allows for much more control with less effort.
      Hope this helps. Not meant as a criticism. I could see that you were frustrated with how the trimmers performed as well. (And I bet that your hand was just aching after those dozen or so goats.)

This way you will also be able to stay out of the weather when you really need to be in there with a goat for whatever reason.

    Brandon, you need a couple of large umbrellas or a couple larger tents staked down on these days. One for y'all and one for the ones corralled and waiting. Water for humans and for the goats as well.

    Re hoof trimming ~ next time your at your feed supply get yourself a horse " hoof pick " and see if you can get a small pair of hoof cutters , instead of scissor looking things they are a called a hoof cutter you can get varies sizes I think the smallest is around - 14 inch or you can get a 3 pce farrier kit for around $50 + which includes a file/rasp . The hoof cutter is quicker & allows you to get more off ,quicker, while giving you a straighter cut .

    HI Brandon, It might be a good idea to turn the big donkeys out at night and in during the day to save your other animals... they will guard the property from predators. Might as well give them a job. I know you're concerned about their size, but maybe its a win win if they earn their keep.

    Glad the goat is ok. Maybe start working the goats in the morning . When it's cooler or in the evening. Also in smaller groups. Also use an animal spray paint a spray the animal after you have worked it .That way you can tell at a glance which one you already did. Instead of of having to look it up. And use a different color each time. Also write down the colors you use each time. Take your time, don't get over heated. You all are doing a wonderful job. God Bless ,. From southern Michigan ❤❤❤

    On the first go-around through the shoots, maybe you could do the weigh-in and meds and throw in marker chips/tags. Then, next week, do the feet so it would not be so stressful for them to go into something they have never seen before. Then all you have to do is keep up with hoove trimming once every 4-8 weeks, and at about 2-4 weeks, start running the babies through so they get used to it.

    Addison singing to the goats is so sweet.🤗❤️
    Brandon youre still learning the ins and outs of the whole pens, shoots, and all so don't beat yourself up about it all. If people make rude or mean comments just disregard and go on or you can just block them. No need for hurtful, rude or annoying comments.
    Anywho, I really hope y'all can take care of the coyote situation. We have them here around our apartment complex and sometimes they sound like they are right outside my patio. Thank God I live on the top floor. But never see them just hear them. The bird you saw in the trees is a Heron. They are no threat to any livestock or people. They are usually in water eating things like fish, frogs and crustaceans. They are big but beautiful. God bless.😊❤

    Good luck with the predators. I watch another channel - Sheepishly Me, where she works her sheep trimming their hooves. Her catch thing that spins turns the animal completely upside down, which might make it easier on your back if yours does that too. She also has an electric trimmer that she swears by. I have two suggestions - 1. as you finish with a goat mark them with a spot of spray paint, so you know right away they are already done and you don't have to mess with them and can just shoo them right through. and 2. bring the table closer to the catch spin piece sort of behind you (unless you are looking to get steps in, I don't understand why it is so far away from the end where you are working the goats). There is a learning curve for everything, practice, practice, practice. All the best, God Bless.
