  • Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Caeleb Dressel states his distaste for comparisons pitting his career up against Michael Phelps. Dressel calls Phelps the G.O.A.T. of their sport and clarifies that he’s faster than the G.O.A.T. within sprint/short course races. Plus, Dressel explains Ryan Lochte’s persona as a teammate and competitor, saying Lochte could beat him in practice when he really wanted to.

I am guessing he wanted to break the 50m free and 100m free wr times at Tokyo. Plus he got screwed out of the mixed medley record at Tokyo :/.

@@trempire7514 I was expecting him to swim the 200 im and 200 free, but he didn't swim the 200 im at trials and he scratched the 200 free semi finals at trials :/. That would have put him in the running for potentially 9 gold medals because of the 4x200 free relay. I think, if it was held in 2020 and he was feeling good, he could have done it. I think he was concerned that that would be too much, and that it would be detrimental to his sprint races. I genuinely think he could have won that 200 im and probably the 200 free (he only had to drop a little more than two seconds from his prelims trials time). I also think the Brits wouldn't have been as strong if it was held in 2020, so the Americans would have won the 4x200 free relay.

@@macicoinc9363 dude this is pure delusion. Dressel can’t swim 200s LCM. Even if he did, his best time is 1:46 and that makes the mens 800 relay 1 second faster max. They still would’ve lost. The guy can only do 3 events. Also why do you think he was robbed of the mixed medley? They weren’t even close to GBR. Please stop spreading misinformation

Good grief. Stop trying to compare apples and oranges. Phelps was a long course endurance specialist. Dressel is a short course sprinter. Also, Phelps is a once in 10 generations swimmer. Don't put that pressure on Dressel as it's unfair.

I really want to say you can’t compare the eras, but Phelps swam in every era and was the best lol. Dressel is the fastest swimmer anyone has seen by far though. He’s so fast I think he could be the first Olympic athlete to win 2 100s (free/fly) and place top three in breast and back due to his insane underwaters. Idk about world record speed in back or breast but definitely could get under 53 in back(which is blazing fast) and under 59 in breast. I always wondered if a swimmer could swim all four of the events, I would probably call that swimmer the greatest ever.

Tbh I think his goal times are probably insanely fast because they probably represent the perfect race mathematically. I saw an article where someone broke down all of his top 50m performances and merged the fastest stages of each and got 20.6 or maybe it was even lower. Im just saying this guys mindset is that he wants to ascend to another plane of swimming not just break records haha
