- These are the best Nvidia Control Panel Settings for Gaming Quality and Performance in 2021. This updated guide explains how to optimize the Nvidia control panel for the ultimate and highest GPU performance, image quality and FPS achievable on gaming laptops, high end and low end PCs. This tutorial focuses on improving image quality in the Manage 3D settings area of the NVCP as this gives you the most control. If your Nvidia control panel is missing, not showing or not opening, let me know! If you’re on a notebook/laptop, the Intel VGA or AMD VGA is probably responsible for the control panel display settings missing issue. If you’re here for the best Nvidia settings for Fortnite or Warzone because textures look strange - try different antialiasing options in the game graphics settings as I’ve been told TSAA fixes weird textures (especially in Warzone). The main reason you’d want to use the Nvidia Control Panel rather than Geforce Experience (where Nvidia Shadowplay is) to optimise your games is because you can apply a different range of GPU options globally, rather than having to optimise each game every time in Nvidia Geforce Experience.

3D Settings for Nvidia Control Panel NVCP
This is the main section for configuring important graphics and performance-related settings on your Nvidia GPU. Here you can Adjust Image Settings With Preview; Manage 3D Settings; and Configure Surround, PhysX.
Adjust Image Settings with Preview
The options are: Let the 3D Application Decide - which reduces your ability to enhance and further control game graphics quality and performance via the NVCP. Use the Advanced 3D Image Settings - this setting allows you to greatly optimise games.
Manage 3D Settings
Any setting you change under Global Settings applies to all games and other 3D applications on your system, while those you change under Program Settings only apply to the specific game or program
Image sharpening
Turn off image sharpening and GPU scaling
Ambient Occlusion
Options are SSAO (Screen Space Ambient Occlusion), HBAO (Horizon Based Ambient Occlusion) or HDAO (High Definition Ambient Occlusion), don't force AO from the NVCP
Anisotropic Filtering
The options are Application Controlled, Off, 2x, 4x, 8x, and 16x. Most games will benefit from using forced 16x AF.
Antialiasing FXAA
AA smooths the appearance of jagged lines.
Antialiasing Gamma Correction
Antialiasing Mode
Set to Application-controlled.
Antialiasing Setting
Attempting to force MSAA, or AA methods based on MSAA, such as Coverage Sampling Antialiasing (CSAA) or Multi-Frame Sampled Antialiasing (MFAA), will only work for some games.
Antialiasing Transparency
Causes performance and/or compatibility issues in most games.
CUDA GPUs
For gaming purposes, components such as PhysX physics simulations or AI processing can be GPU accelerated using CUDA to improve performance.
DSR Factors
The Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) feature allows you to render a game at a higher resolution than your monitor's native resolution (its max supported resolution), it rescales the higher resolution image to match your native resolution
DSR Smoothness
This setting comes into effect when the DSR - Factors setting is enabled. GeDoSaTo (Generic DownSampling Tool) provides more options.
Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames / Low Latency Mode / Max Frame Rate
Controls the max number of frames the CPU prepares in advance. Can cause input lag.
Multi-Frame Sampled AA (MFAA)
Provides MSAA-like Antialiasing quality at a lower performance cost.
OpenGL rendering GPU
Determines how OpenGL games and applications handle rendering when connected to multiple displays and/or if using two or more different types of Nvidia GPUs.
Power Management Mode
The options are Optimal Power, Adaptive and Prefer Maximum Performance.
Shader Cache
Texture filtering Anisotropic Sample Optimization
Set to Off to ensure the highest image quality
Texture filtering Negative LOD bias
Set this to Clamp NOT Allow.
Texture filtering Quality
Options are High Performance, Performance, Quality and High Quality.
Texture filtering Trilinear Optimization
Threaded Optimization
Triple Buffering
Vertical Sync / VSYNC
If you have a Gsync monitor, skip this.
Virtual Reality Pre-rendered Frames
Virtual Reality - Variable Rate Super Sampling
Other options in the NVCP include display settings which allow you to:
Change resolution, adjust desktop colour settings, rotate display, rotate display, view HDCP status, set up Digital Audio, adjust desktop size and position and set up multiple displays. Other NVIDIA control panel video settings are: adjust colour settings and adjust video image settings

Best tutorial regarding NCP! Laughing so hard while I'm learning that I've watched it 5 times today. Anyway, I was wondering what setting you recommend for 'Preferred refresh rate" option since it must have been a new feature introduced after you made this video? For now, I opted for 'Highest available' but just want to make sure in case NVIDIA's description is as wrong as it was about Low Latency Mode. LMAO

another question I have is that I csgo run at around 120 fps but sometimes I do get a strutter/ lag but it's not packet loss any recommendations, also I have turned down all video settings in csgo down.

I7-9700k 2080super 32gb ram ... Monitor ASUS 1080p 1ms 280hz I play only dayz ive got on a good server like 160fps lowest to 280highest FPS !!!! NOW I TOOK MY MONEY BOUGHT A FUCKING 1440p also from ASUS 170hz 1ms because they said it looks better and you see people from far !! Thats what i do,i spent ages messing with nvidia settings and it didnt make any noticeable difference
so vertical sync should be off only if u have g sync 144-240hz monitor ????
I never turn vertical sync on in the global settings. For example i play Tiger woods 08 game. When i had vertical turned off i was always getting slightly slow tempo on my golf shots, then i turned vertical sync on in the program settings for that particular game only. After enabling vertical sync my swing tempo went from slightly slow to slightly fast which is a lot better for hitting the ball longer distances. So some games will benefit from having vertical sync turned on under program settings in the NVidia control panel. By the way i have a 1920 x 1080 240hz monitor too.
So, my new computer arrived this weekend and I wanted to make sure I was getting the best out of my system and graphics card (GeForce RTX 3090 24Gb). I don't really understand all the different options to be honest, so I watched Panjno's tutorial and followed his instructions. Tried out some games and they all looked absolutely SHIT!!! Games look way better on my laptop that I bought in 2016 (with a GeForce(R) GTX 980M graphics card), so needless to say I was super pissed at how shitty games looked. I even thought maybe something was wrong with my new system and considered sending the PC back to the seller.
After freaking out for about an hour, I came across your video and went through each step of yours and launched a game after each step. The image sharpening was causing the problem! Just switching this off made everything look so so much better, what relief...
Anyway, I followed all of your steps and holy shit I've never seen games look this amazing. Thank you for this video, you saved me from another meltdown.

image sharpening is very good but you need to lower the intensity. Trust me games will look a lot better but if you playing at the native resolution of your screen (as you should) put the intensity at about 30-25, and ignore film grain to 0,15. Games are sharper but not too much and the image is a lot cleaner especially if there are aa settings like taa which blurs the image. Panjino just let it to 50 intensity and that is too much if you're on a native resolution

If you have a very good CPU you can try setting Virtual Reality pre-rendered frames higher for a smoother experience - however, I've heard this can negatively affect headset latency if your CPU isn't strong enough which may end up causing headaches :P. Adaptive seems like the best option for Variable Rate Super Sampling, but I have yet to test it combination with my current steam VR super sampling settings in Steam

Idk if it has changed since you made this video but DSR just allows you to downsample 4k or anything else to your native resolution. You have to physically apply the new downsampled resolution in whichever game it's being used in, so there is no reason to have it off if you intend to use it at all.
True dude, you're right! It's weird you should specifically mention that setting because I watched this video yesterday as I'm currently working on the updated one and I thought the same thing haha. It doesn't affect anything until you set it up in the game, so you could just select everything in the control panel to give you more choices. Will definitely include this in the updated version, thanks man!

I've read that enabling the MFAA thing disables some DX11 command stuffs that games use for better optimization, which can lower your CPU usage and lower your performance when using MSAA+MFAA. Would be interesting reading into it a lot more than I have, so on that front I'll keep it disabled for the possibility of reduced performance, until more concrete benchmarks/information is given.

I followed these settings and got 12 - 17 more frames and surprisingly my GPU draws less power as well as keeping a stable clock speed. Good stuff man, can't wait for GPU overclocking video. :D

I am really glad you did this much research on both your vids, I was srsly annoyed that most of the other UA-camrs suggest that you should be using prefer maximum performance at all times... I would have also never guessed that setting texture filtering to high performance would DECREASE the performance worse than performance and quality like wtf Nvidia just remove those settings LOL

MFAA should NOT be enabled under the “global settings” tab, as it can degrade cpu performance in games that run Directx 11. For some reason when enabled globally, it disables the Directx 11 command list. This can be avoided by simply enabling MFAA under the “program settings” tab for whichever games you wish to enable it in.
