I used to make bannock quite often. Then I lost / forgot my recipe. Been looking around for weeks and watched countless videos. No go. FINALLY, I ran across this video! It's the exact same recipe, down to the powdered milk!! I even do the baggy trick too. I actually grill mine an a small grill I carry around. Anyway, you've just made my day, thank you so so much!!!! 🤗🤗
Nice! Bannock is something that comes on nearly every trip we take. I mix up big batches of the dry ingredients and package it into smaller portions for my family on camping trips. My recipe is different from most though. I use 2 cups wheat flour, 2 cups corn flour, 2 cups instant potatoe powder, 1 table spoon salt, 1 tablespoon sugar, 3 table spoons baking powder. This I mix up and portion out, then add my fat just before cooking (usually olive oil) This recipe came about on a trip where we didn't have enough bannock mix to serve the amount of people there so we just threw in the dry ingredients we had. People loved it so we tweaked it a bit but basically stuck with it.
Buck Nash Sounds interesting mind if I steal that one? The potato mix sounds pretty cool. Are you using the complete mixes, just add water? There are so many flavours of Idahoan Instant potatos you could really mix it up!👍
Woodswalker 1965 I have used all kinds including the flavored idahoan stuff. It's really good. Of course I don't mind you stealing it. That's why I put it out there. My favourite bannock topping is maple syrup btw
Wade, I recently found your channel and think you are doing a great job. This is my first comment on your channel and I totally agree with your advice to use powdered milk in your bannock. Makes all the difference to one of our favorite staples. Thanks again for all the dedicated work on your productions.
Hey thanks very much and thank you for the sub! Thanks for the comment, I love hearing what you think! I always thought the milk made sense too👍! Hope you stick around my friend! Wade
Mark Young. Why yes I have as a matter of fact, spiced rum. I actually have a good dessert bannock that finishes with rum . Hmmmm might have to share it lol. Thanks for watching Mark👍
Thanks for watching. I don't premix the water because sometimes it sits for days in my pack. If you knew you were going to use it the same day you could premix it and just cook it in camp. That's a great tip, thank you. 👍
Just tried this recipe yesterday. Needless to say it was AMAZING!!! First time I ever ate it. This one is a keeper!!! Thanks for sharing. PS I subbed Chrisco shortening for butter and it worked beautifully.
Ever Changing Me. Ghee would work I think! Good ol lard or shortening will work as well. It's more shelf stable too. Thanks for the suggestion and for watching! Wade
Lard is shelf-stable at room temperature - if you can find it for sale, it'll just be in a box on a grocery store shelf, not in the refrigerated section. That would be a more stable option if somebody wanted to add their fat at home and not worry about it spoiling.
I tried your Bannock recipe tonight and loved it! I'll be fixing this a lot more. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you like it👍
I make bannock on almost all of my bushcraft/camping trips. Thanks for sharing how you prepare bannock before heading out to the great outdoors 👍
It's a staple for sure in my pack! You're very welcome👊
best bannock recipe going. the skim milk powder is a great touch.
+Ontario Backwoods Outfitters Thanks brother!
I like your bannock mix and the biscuit/gravy video, thanks for sharing, If I may offer an idea, maybe try using ghee (clarified butter)
That would be tasty and shelf stable👍
I like brown sugar and dried cherries with a touch of almond extract. Yum!! Thanks for the video!
That would be deelish! Thanks for the suggestion!!😀
I tried milk powder in my bannock this weekend and it was a nice touch. Thanks for the tip!

PS. I never use butter, just a bit of oil. Thanks again!!
That's awesome, glad the video helped. I usually use oil as well, a bit of olive oil. Take care my friend!
I use half the measurement of milk powder to the flour, usually 6 ok large tea spoons of flower to 3 milk powder, I find coffee mate work's well.
Interesting, I’ve never heard of using coffee mate!👍
@@Woodswalker1965 I only tried it because that's all I had on the day, but I think it works great.
Heading to the woods tomorrow. Can't wait to try your mix with bacon and beans for brekky! Great looking cheesy garlic Bannock. Thanks Bud! 👍

Always enjoyed a nice bannock cooked over the fire. Ever finish it with a drizzle of rum?? Thanks for sharing your recipe.
Mark Young. Why yes I have as a matter of fact, spiced rum. I actually have a good dessert bannock that finishes with rum . Hmmmm might have to share it lol. Thanks for watching Mark👍

Much appreciated my friend👍
I've made bannock minus the butter...but that's a nice touch. I do add sugar but never thought of brown sugar, great idea!
2Tiedup Its a good staple for the pack and I think everybody adds their own little twist to make it the way they like it. Thanks for checking it out!
Nice Tip,gonna try next time in the woods !
Take care brother ;-)
bushfalke Enjoy my friend its good bush food for sure. Thanks for checking it out!
Ive been lucky enough to have the Woodswalker's bannock. It sure is good.
Wandering Hanger Ive got a few mixes ready to go👍
Thanks for the recipe. Question, since you are making this mix at home, why not mix it in a bowl, then dump it into the baggy? Thumb up.
Thanks for watching. I don't premix the water because sometimes it sits for days in my pack. If you knew you were going to use it the same day you could premix it and just cook it in camp. That's a great tip, thank you. 👍
Great video, Thank you!!

PS I subbed Chrisco shortening for butter and it worked beautifully.
Awesome, glad you liked it! Crisco would work fine for sure! Enjoy it! Wade
Ghee might be a good alternative to the butter as well... definitely trying this recipe thanks!
Ever Changing Me. Ghee would work I think! Good ol lard or shortening will work as well. It's more shelf stable too.
Thanks for the suggestion and for watching! Wade
Need to give this a go Wade......and i could bring Nutella....just to go nuts even though i am a peanut butter man
MmmmmmmmNUTELLA would be awesome. Go nuts man! 👍

Legman688 True, lard is shelf stable and I would use it for long term stability. Good point thanks for the comment🖒
Could you use ghee instead of butter? Also came here on the recommendation of Cimbrer Bushcraft. Glad I did.
Thanks for coming over! Yes Ghee would work. I made it with olive oil on my last overnighter, it was delicious! I appreciate your support my friend.👍
If one take the oliveoil option, around how much olive oil should I add to the mix? Same amount as the butter?
Yes about the same amount . Thanks for watching👍
Bannock with chili or stew.
K Grant Yes Sir nothing like a big bowl of comfort food and a nice slice of bannock. Thanks for watching!
About how much water do you add to the mix?
I would start with about 1/2 cup of water and go from there. Add water slowly until you get the desired texture. Hope it works out for you👍
