I give her credit for her honesty when she was interviewed by Cavett. "I had every advantage in life growing up. I would have had to been a blithering idiot not to have been successful."

Miss Hepburn was 84 years old in this interview. This interview first aired on September 6th, 1991, some months after the Kate Couric Interview. Hepburn died 12 years after this interview on June 29th 2003. She was 96 when she died. She lived a really long life. I really miss her because she was a literal classic and born in a generation where people were more respectful. She made her last movie and last perfomance in the 1994 movie "One Christmas". She was aged 87 in the movie and still fit but unfortunately after One Christmas she became frail. You will be dearly missed Miss Hepburn.
Edit: Miss Walters sadly died on Dec 30th at 93. May both rip.
June 29th, 2023 UPDATE: Today marks 20 years since Hepburn died. May she still Rest in Peace.

I got shivers when Miss Hepburn said why dont you just call me Kate. That was an honor. A classy woman who always spoke her truth regardless of what others think, but not hurting anyone in the process. I always loved Spenser's speeches in his movies but the one on Guess Whos Coming to Dinner topped it.

I get a feeling from Hepburn as I do from Joni Mitchell and Joan Didion. These were all trailblazers who faced the difficulties of life intelligently and somewhat fearlessly. They were intelligent enough to always be lifelong learners and seekers. They all were creative and able to leave a lifetime of work to reflect the lives and times they lived in.

Loved the part about being a light sleeper. Her next door neighbor in NYC's Turtle Bay neighborhood was Stephen Sondheim. He shared this story:
(I was) “… up one night at about 3, pounding on the piano, writing The Ladies Who Lunch, when I heard this banging on the door. There was Hepburn, in a babushka and no shoes, saying, ‘Young man, I cannot sleep with the noise you’re making'."

There are a lot of things that I love about this interview. Hepburn fans interpret her assuredness as being confident in being right about things....basically everything. Here she demonstrates the complete opposite. She's stubborn about things but has no idea whatsoever if she's right or not. I love that candor and confession. It's ok to be unsure about something, but be strong in your convictions and don't force them on others. People were always asking for her opinion. She didn't put her opinion out there ever without being asked. People were constantly hounding her for interviews and quotes and then playing the gotcha game afterwards. She famously said that she looks forward to dying so she wouldn't have to be interviewed anymore. LOL. Legend!

She was the inventer of the complex person. I see perhaps 20% of the true Heoburn is revealed here. She never let anyone know her except her inner circle. I disagree with somethings she choose in her life, but then I'm not her. I saw her with Christopher Reeve in "Matter of Gravity" and I was just thrilled to see her. I was in a cheap seat cause I drove with a friend at the last minute to her play. I just watched her of course. It was a moment in my life. There's something about her. I think it's her courage first that stuns people. Courage to be so very very unique in a world of compromise. What a woman.
