Mr Rosa, thank you so much for the video. I purchased this exact welder on Friday. Wasn’t able to get the 170 either. Started putting it together today. Have been interrupted many times and found the timing of running across your video more than accidental … thank You Lord. Had no idea where I was going to get my bottle to run MIG. After watching this I’m not going to. Same deal. Not hiring out and just want it to stick when I weld it. Sure appreciate you. FYI you did a makeover on a mandolin for my late daughter Ashlee back in ‘21.. I absolutely trust you, Melissa and the your whole team.
I have one and I absolutely love it. I've used it as a Mig and Flux core welder and it works great. I'm just a garage mechanic and so far its handled everything I've thrown at it. The chart on the inside only goes up to 1/8" but I've successfully welded materials up to 1/4" with no problem whatsoever. Something I have noticed when using flux core wire is that it seems to burn a bit hotter than standard wire, I don't know if its because that the flux in the wire makes it burn hotter or maybe the the inert gas using solid wire has some cooling effect on the weld or the polarity difference between them has something to do with it but there is definitely a temperature difference. All in all for what I need a welder for around the garage I'm very pleased with its performance and how well it has stood up over the past couple years. As far as your comment on running it on a generator and the power needed for the task, I would say any generator capable of probably around 3000 watts should do the job. Considering that the welder is designed for a 20 amp circuit 120 volts x 20 amp = 2400 watts and then add another 10 to 20% for surge load I think that a generator in the 3000 to 4000 watt range should do the trick. I haven't tried mine on a generator so I can't say with 100% it would so if anyone that has one is running it on a generator I'd like to know what size generator they're running theirs on.
Thank you SO much for posting this. This is the exact video I was looking for after many failed attempts, very helpful and you nailed everything I was wondering about this welder! You’re the best.
I stumbled across Mr. Rosa's review today. I have recently have been been designing concrete tables and concrete home furnishings and investigating the requirements of welding to supporting the base needs; be it wood or metal. I bought the HF Mig 140 today, and happy I did so that it supports not having to have dependent on gas. His review and usage is exceptional it breaking down its capabilities.
I want to thank you for this video, I also just purchased this same welder. I also am using the 0.30 flux core wire and didn't want to hook up A bottle unless I really needed to. After finding a sweet spot to weld without too much splatter. I hooked up my ground like there instructions say, but it seems to weld better with the ground on the positive like you said. Thanks again for your help.
Great video and very helpful setup tips! Used your video as a setup guide for mine and it seems to work pretty smooth. Huge difference between switching positive and negative leads like you said! Love your honest opinion of the ground clamps crappiness lmao!
Great review. I don't know about anything but stick welding and have no idea what any of the others are, but neither do I have use for welding at all any more. However, if I do, I'll get one of these and review your talk and start experimenting. Thanks for all your help. Like all my tools tools, I understand that if it's not there, I won't think of using it. Maybe I'll take a look.
I had an opportunity in metalwork at school to do some tinsmith work, a spot of flux came spiralling up and straight into my left eyeball. No harm done.Sent home with a big eyepatch! My Mother said"Now what have you done"! Safety glasses would have been nice
Thanks so much for posting this concise, informative video regarding Harbor Freight’s Titanium 140/175. After stick welding with a Hugh Miller the Titanium. Funny note, HF must have listened to your video clamp comments. The clamps on my Mig 175 are exactly as you specified. Thanks Again !!
SOmetimes if you burn off, all you have to do is grind the tip back a bit till you get back past the stuck part. Make sure your wire did not kink up at the feed wheels before trying to weld again.
ThankJerry for the review on the welder that it is awesome and I needed that information I'm like you I'm behind 8 ball when it comes to technology I mean I'm used to the old Lincoln stick welder you know and I can do a pretty good job but when they came out with all the other stuff I was like dumb dumb
I bought the 170 and spool gun. It's also a very impressive welder for the money. Welds better than my Lincoln and has more fine adjustment . I got the bigger 170 only because I was told I needed more power for the spool gun. But I would bet the 140 would do everything I needed lol
I use the spool gun, almost exclusively for aluminum. But yes the 170 drives it very well. Don't know if the 140 would. Again, the smaller dia. wire will get you a hotter arc, hence better penetration.
The 170 is the way to go .better to have more power when you need it . I have the 200 ,but if money's tight get the 170. If your going to use flux core only ,get the Titanium 125 it's a little beast . A lot less than 500 and it will do everything the 140 will and cheaper too.
I thank you, for taking the time to teach us we novice on this matter, definetively God willing I am going to buy this model, yopu open my eyes to grteat information, I will aprecaite if yopu can tell me the part number forthe ceramic tip please, how I wished thta yopy lived close to Arizona, just to thank you again and give you a handshake , may God bless you always, greetings fromMexico, gracias
I have the same welder. Sadly, I was able to have the tank shipped to my front door for significantly cheaper on Amazon than getting one locally. Doesn’t have to be a large tank if you only weld occasionally.
While running mig mine starts off extremely slow for 4-5 seconds then speeds up to set speed? Got mine yesterday and can’t figure this out. Figured there was a setting but can’t find anything.
If you have any heavy welding, you do not get very good penetration from the 140, with flux core.. I had a 140 that did use gas or flux, I ran the gas, and .020 wire and could get much better penetration, and a much smoother finished weld. Too hot and you burn off and stick the wire to the nozzle.

Really like your video I've been welding for almost 55 years and I really like your video how you had it set up very good job
Just bought this unit and had several questions after going through the manual. You covered most of them. Thank you for an excellent video.

Excellent review, detailed and educated. I am looking forward to picking up my 140 and running it tomorrow!
Thanks Jerry. Keep on smiling.
Thanks very much for this evaluation and the tips. I've thought about this numerous times. Nice parts from what I can see. Thumbs up to crush a troll.
Seriously Jerry, tell us what you really think about the crappy ground clamp. Loved the video, thanks.

Thanks for sharing. I've been considering the Titanium Easy-Flux 125.
I had an opportunity in metalwork at school to do some tinsmith work, a spot of flux came spiralling up and straight into my left eyeball. No harm done.Sent home with a big eyepatch! My Mother said"Now what have you done"! Safety glasses would have been nice
Your guide right really helped me, I was ready to give up on my welding!

Looking at the 140 and 125. If you are mainly doing flux core why go with the 140 over the 125?
Informative video Jerry. Wish I could weld. Every attempt has turned into a glorified mess. Thanks for the content.

thanks, this came just in time i was looking for new welder for the farm.

The 140 does the trick but it ain’t nothing great w the spool gun
Great review, and great video!👍🏻👍🏻
Good job
Thank you sir. It's very helpful.
very informative, loved it
Nice review.
I used to purchase from Harbor Freight but for some regulation they no longer ship out of the lower 48.
Thank You...
Thanks Jerry, i have been wondering if the harbor freight welders were any good.
Thanks was wondering if i could flux weld with this machine.
Great review, thanks very much =)
thank you Great review. btw
Just curious, isn’t the ..030/.035 knurled groove used for flux core? That’s what I thought I saw somewhere.
Yes they are and the smooth is for solid core.
I have the same machine. I had issues with.35 wire, so I'm using a 40 tip... Perhaps I'll get it set better in time...
The 170 is the way to go .better to have more power when you need it .
I have the 200 ,but if money's tight get the 170.
If your going to use flux core only ,get the Titanium 125 it's a little beast . A lot less than 500 and it will do everything the 140 will and cheaper too.
I picked up the 140 for $160 bucks at my Harbor Freight.

Do you have the link to buy the gas tank?
Where can we get the ceramic nozzle?
While running mig mine starts off extremely slow for 4-5 seconds then speeds up to set speed? Got mine yesterday and can’t figure this out. Figured there was a setting but can’t find anything.
Flux core wire varies, the best one I found is the Lincoln wire
Please watch ua-cam.com/video/_WylABpczww/v-deo.html. He states otherwise and shows you the results.
Those Titanium welding machines seem to get the job done for the professional homeowner.
I know several in use full time in a shop.
Check the contact tips and make sure you have extra tips. Those type machines don’t always use standard tweco style tips.
They are standard tips you can buy them anywhere
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Will you do a tig video too?. Love all your videos. Your an excellent teacher.. maybe a repair seminar or school next...
DO YOU HAVE A CHOICE FOR BRAND OF WIRE?
See this ua-cam.com/video/_WylABpczww/v-deo.html. I was pleasantly surprised.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️🙋♂️
Reduce the spatter issue by using anti-spatter spray
Its good with fluxcore, but wait until you use it with gas. Titanium welders are great.
All types of welding give off fumes. Always wear proper NIOSH approved respirator or use a fume extractor.
That spatter gel is glorified vaseline.
I have a titanium 140 put 2 and a half 2 pound spools of white threw it and the wire feed motor stopped and they told me sorry about your luck
Wire not white dammit
What the hell does this even mean?
@@13Voodoobilly69😂😂😂😂😂
Min 20 amp
Mine goes to eleven!
Nice review.
