HBX 16889, sold by HPI. I love my Slyder Turbo. I’ve had it for a year now. I’ve upgraded to fluid shocks, steel diffs, steel axles, and better tires. It’s definitely my favorite mini basher, I drive it nearly every single day.
Finally! Someone did a review on the blackzon slyder turbo! I got the blue one as a basement basher for my birthday last March. The friction shocks are a bit bouncy even off small jumps, but I don’t care personally. I love the little headlights. And the brushless motor barely gets more than warm even after I run an entire battery pack through it. Great video, Greg. This was the first off brand RC I’ve ever owned, and at least me personally, I think they’re awesome for what they are.
I bought both when they first came out a year or so ago and they have proven to be one of the best tiny bashers made! My Slyder Turbo has been run over a few times by real cars and it still hasnt broken anything!
They make oil filled shocks. Put those on and smooth out that ride. This in our opinion is the toughest micro basher out there. We have abused ours and the only thing we broke is the rear fin and that’s just from being in internal mode.
Great little truck from what I've seen. Just wish they came out of the box with the oil filled shocks like the Haiboxing variants do. But on the bright side it does mean there's plenty of option parts out there!
My HBX 16889 is the most durable RC I have owned and I have had it for years and still drive it and bash the heck out of it. It's since been changed over to all the pro upgrades as well with a 3s capable hobbywing ESC. By far one of my favorite RCs ever. My 8 year old beats on it too and it takes it and comes back for more.
I bought a Slyder stadium truck and a Slyder monster truck back in '21, before they sold a brushless version. I'm working on upgrading them to brushless. Fun fact, the brushed uses a 5 wire servo, and the brushless uses a 3 wire servo. You also cannot remove the pinion gear from the brushed motor. They're fun little trucks for sure, and quite durable!
This platform is one of the more popular beginner models at the hobby shop I work at. There are upgraded oil shocks and axles available. They're definitely a good way to introduce someone to hobby grade R/C.
Yeah this is the durable HBX 16889 or 16890 - too bad that they did not go with the pro version with oil filled shocks and metal drivetrain. The motor mount gives you the choice between 14 and 16 tooth pinions usually comes with a 14.
I have the redcat version the volcano 16. great platform. I converted mine to brushless and did all the upgrades they sell for it.. thing is almost bullet proof and handles great
It's pretty amazing to compare the world of entry level Hobby RC's now to the 80's and 90's. If only these companies could get the styling and naming on lock.
Very goods RCs for the money I did a review of the Slyder St over a year ago and I paid around $130 AUD. I also have the MT version. Very durable rcs for the beginner I love both of mine which I run at least one of the once a week
very good video, we have had these in UK for a long time and as you say same platform used for a few different makes like FTX and lots of love for them, better shocks and a 3D printed battery tray to fit 2200mah 2S and they rock
I like seeing other companies selling haiboxing cars because that means i get different body options. Now i wish companies would start adopting the 2997a because as much as i love that car it seriously lacks aftermarket support
Just got myself an axial scx24 just notice how tiny the battery plug. Do they make an adapter to make it a tad chunky if not can I just keep it plugged (switched off)?
Might be half decent if they put some fricn decent shocks on it… lol It’s almost 2025 and they are still using brushed electronics and dampeners 🤷🏼♂️ Id much rather pay a few more bucks for decent shocks and electronics, at least they did do a brushless version though. Thanks for the review, I love seeing cheaper options and not having to find out the hard way if it’s complete garbage or not 😂
here in netherlands 4 oil filled shocks cost 26euro in compare to the maverick atom thats cheap maverick asks 41euro for 4 (thats half the car lol, same price as the brushed version from the slyder)
Get the HBX 16889A PRO...it is exactly the same car but it comes with full metal transmission (these plastic ones are pure crap...lifespan: 4 min +/-) and you get alloy oil filled shocks (these plastic ones shouldn't even exist..)..i added a Hobbywing 30A,a gyro and some Louise RC tires...200% FUN..i run mine for 3 years now,NEVER broke a part....BEST 1/16 of all times

It's the trusty hbx16889 platform - can't go wrong it's like the Toyota of the RC world
Toyota has fallen off since since 2022 on MANY of their vehicles. 😢
the toyota hilux of rc world 😎

My lhs has been selling Blackzon for at least 2 years, they consistently sell out of them. Plenty of upgrades available for them as well.
Add some fluid filled shocks would make a world of difference.
Looks like a Haiboxing. Decent RC's for the money

Yes there are metal upgrades for driveshafts and gears and oil filled shocks.

Seems like a good platform with available spares and upgrades! 👍
Awesome trucks and they will run 3s lol but super tough same as the hbx 16889a
The legacy of the E-Revo lives on!

Are Philips screws really cheaper than hex?
It looks identical to the imex desert race buggy
That esc will run 3s. Or they use to
Dose danbury hobby center have this ?
Redcat volcáno 16

@@pjpankratz8829Right…
@@richardtuin4659What is 26euro in dollars?
Friction shocks have to go.👎 Too bouncy makes it more like a toy grade.
My local hobby shop is owned and run my racist knuckle draggers, I will never give them my money
