Why full atk? Doesn't defensive fighting reduce damage even after shielding is broken?

Possibly because of imbuements. It doesn't affect exori/exori gran/exori min so the damage it reduces isn't as relevant as the damage full atk does on regular hits, increasing amount healed per turn.

@@tdbnasc3 it's a noticable difference when I tank elite skeles if I'm in def/atk. Taking more damage isnt really worth the minuscule amount that a single attack gives in my experience; especially considering full def let's you still deal full damage with everything else.

Defense prey makes him about 95 levels more tanky here. So you can consider him level 310+ without def prey.
Add defensive imbues and it sure becomes possible.
