I’ve come to love my UDR… I bought it used and it was a complete mess but after 6 months of upgrades and learning the truck it is now one of my favorite trucks to drive and work on! It’s a lot to get used to but if you can buy a used one I recommend that considering I’ve put more money in to it then the retail price is
I love my UDR. I dont treat it like a basher XRT or XMaxx though. I run it at the beach. I also have upgraded my UDR to Vitavon. All I do is normal maintenance.
Yep! I just replaced mine last week. I also replaced it with the Traxxas Steel Driveshaft (Part #:TRA8556X) & hopefully I never have to worry about it again but my issue was a clicking noise coming from the center driveshaft. 😞 She's running like she is new again (thank goodness) & I did learn a lot about the truck. I love my UDR even more now! 😁 Thx for the video Mark! 👍
that's the fun and excitement of buying and playing RC is to run it and if it break your mind will be busy working instead of just seating and doing nothing, so let's all have fun RC ing and be happy.
One piece front driveshaft/diff. First upgrade I did, followed by a rear diff with 1m grease. Vivaton rear axle and I never had a drivetrain issue after.
If you like the UDR style vehicles you should look at the Kraken Vekta.5, you can get it brushless also with the Max4 ESC and 70125 motor. Pretty tough box stock, check out thunder rc vids of it, and a few select mods make it almost indestructible like alloy front diff housing and steering parts. It's super easy to work on also and after you mod the UDR to survive you are over halfway to a brushless Vekta.5.
Ive never had to wrench on a UDR, but after watching this, it appears to be alot like working on my SBR 2.0 😂. Its my favorite truck, but man i hate working on it. Fortunatly ive added some strategic Vitavon upgrades and it rarely ever breaks anymore. The last repair was replacing the stock Spektrum electronics with a Hobbywing system and a 5th scale servo. Im assuming once you've done the proper upgrades to your UDR, you wont have to work on yours very often either. The SBR has more screws to take the body off btw...😂
I purchased my UDR early on before they even came with the light kit. I had watched a video about the front driveshaft being a weak point. I bought a cheap aluminum front driveshaft on ebay before I ever drove it. was a 25 minute job and never have had an issue.
I love my UDR, but it is NOT for beginners. Myself included. Tough to work on. And I still haven't figured out how to drive it, lol. The front end drops like a rock everytime it jumps. Its still fast, drives angry and is a riot. Here's hoping i learn something and improve!
It’s not a problem if it’s hard to fix, that’s kinda fun actually, it IS a problem if there’s no hop op or solution to common breaks. If you drive it like a surface basher, assuming the are no really bad weak points, it should break too often
I remember getting the front part of the driveshaft from the top front diff. I just removed all the screws thats bolt down the cage to the front tub/chassis. After that the front top diff cover comes off along with the front differential assembly. Ill admit it was fun tho lol
Bummer it broke, brother. But it happens no matter what type of RC car you own or drive. I have some RC cars I hate wrenching on as well. Makes me super gun shy when I drive those, so I don’t get stuck wrenching on them 😂 Great video man. Keep up the awesome content. 👊🏼
I bought my udr second hand and the first time out it grenades the pinion gear. So I went through and basically rebuilt and upgraded the entire driveline. New bearings aluminum diffs and center driveshaft.
I haven't had to work on mine yet.. but i can see stripping a screw in there and for a split second putting it up for sale.. 😂.. but the UDR is an OG rc in my opinion.. run it like it should be ran and you shouldn't have much for issues. 😎🤙🏽
I leave the drivers out on mine for better air flow to the electronics and easier to work on in the future. I’d snag some steel hex sooner than later as well 👍🏻
Love my UDR, hate working on it. That front shaft is a known issue since the truck came out, and Traxxas absolutely sucks for still shipping them like this years later. Mine stripped on the 3rd pack.
Reminds me of my SBR 2.0, a joy to drive and show people but damn so many nuts and bolts and everything was so expensive 😂 large scale problems Anyways can anyone clue me into common issues with these trucks and in your experience would it make more sense to buy one already upgraded or just run it stock?
Mate, i love the look of the UDR but damn they are just stupid to work on, I have the 1/10 losi BajaRey V1 and I dread having to work on it, again I love how it looks and performs but damn it's just a pure headache to work on. That's why I think I'm just a massive Mojave fan. Great vid too mate👍👍👍
When I got my UDR 6years ago the very first thing I did was change out the front driveshaft. The truck might have had an hour of run time on it when I took it apart, an the driveshaft was already starting to twist, so I put a steel one in it. its still in there today
Sorry Mark, to see you struggling with this, but, i'll stay with my Arrma Mojave 6S. I just installed the Mojave red EXB diff cases, front and back and it took about an hour, my mission is completed. 😎
It’s Not sooo Bad working in UDR but some people really don’t have pation.. Trust me i completely rebuild that bit** after buying used at marketplace and directly switching the weak parts out , never breakes again until now
Hey Mark if it broke right away couldn't you just send it back to Traxxas and have them send you a new one or send it back to Traxxas and ask them to put the steel drive shafts in it I have a few Traxxas but I've often wondered if they had a build department
Unfortunately BOTH of my rc box club drivers have broke. The 2mm ball driver literally just snapped off so that ones done and then the 1.5mm driver just rounded off so bad it's unusable for anything anymore sad days. Just sucks bc they are like $12 a piece. Not super expensive but still for 2 drivers more than I paid for a entire set on amazon which have done me well so far
@MarkSantaMaria i didnt get new ones yet. The mip bits i tbh just can't afford atm. And I just can't see myself paying that much for bits. Just unfortunate timing I guess and it sucks
Hello Everyone. Mark put out a video saying Traxxas put out a cell checker for the trx4m battiers. does anyone know the part number for that? Please and Thankyou
I love my UDR even tho it is a pain in the ass to work on it 😂😂😂😂 but isn’t that the reason why the people who own one love it? The realism of it 😩😩😩😩😩
Mimimi it’s not so easy to work on then a beginners car .. mimimi 😂 Rc is not just buying and using , but RTR dudes, I think you also , never experienced building completely models , ore even set it up correctly. But that’s where it came from 😉 And trust me , the fact that you never try an UDR because the fear of working on it also don’t get you into the joy of all the fun these car brings you while driving
@ that’s a lot of assumptions. I’ve been doing RCs since the 1970s, I’ve built Jerobee’s (ever heard of those?), Tamiya’s, Team Associated’s and Tekno’s but the UDR looks like a pain. Additionally, the UDR is nowhere near where the hobby came from. Use more knowledge, less assumptions, grab a dictionary and a grammar book before making ill-informed responses going forward. Thanks for playing.
The UDR is one of the only Traxxas vehicles we don't stock and never will. It's weak and awful to work on. There's never a good reason to buy a UDR when the Mojave exists.
I’ve come to love my UDR… I bought it used and it was a complete mess but after 6 months of upgrades and learning the truck it is now one of my favorite trucks to drive and work on! so looks like it's more complex to work on than a Erevo 2.0? I Love driving that thing
@ Yes it is and ironically I traded my Erevo 2.0 for the UDR
Next time it breaks, just do a giveaway
😂😂😂😂😂
I love my UDR. I dont treat it like a basher XRT or XMaxx though. I run it at the beach. I also have upgraded my UDR to Vitavon. All I do is normal maintenance.
Perhaps you should take up Stamp collecting. Instead

That's a damn good point !!!! I just had an epiphany by what you just said and see it differently now. Thank you !!!! 🙂
Well, that definitely makes the old Revo 3.3 look like a cakewalk.
Love my UDR yes it’s a lot more work than most rc but it’s an experience and driving it is awesome everyone loves it when I take it out
Oh man, I could feel the frustration !
UDR is Awesome 💯
No thanks. I always look for products that are at least a little more easy to work on!
Great job Mark!
Merry Christmas
Arrma are pretty easy then traxxas crap
@@jeffarab4947because arrma so weak that you always need to work on 😂
It's worth all the work the UDR not a better example of a real Trophy Truck ! 😀 Keep the faith Mark! Love You love your show!
I had one. What a PITA to work on!
When I got back into RC a few years back, I was tossing up between the Xmaxx and the UDR. Glad I went with the Xmaxx😂!?!
One piece front driveshaft/diff. First upgrade I did, followed by a rear diff with 1m grease. Vivaton rear axle and I never had a drivetrain issue after.

This video makes a good case for getting a slash and not a UDR.
Maxx slash
Pump as much grease as you can in the rear axle housing. It’ll keep the sand out and the rear axle cool
I love my UDR, but it is NOT for beginners. Myself included. Tough to work on. And I still haven't figured out how to drive it, lol. The front end drops like a rock everytime it jumps.
Its still fast, drives angry and is a riot. Here's hoping i learn something and improve!
I also did the traxxas metal front drive shaft, but as soon as i got out the box, and it was a pain
It’s not a problem if it’s hard to fix, that’s kinda fun actually, it IS a problem if there’s no hop op or solution to common breaks. If you drive it like a surface basher, assuming the are no really bad weak points, it should break too often
i love these wrenching videos you should do more, it also shows the true fun of rc lol
I remember getting the front part of the driveshaft from the top front diff. I just removed all the screws thats bolt down the cage to the front tub/chassis. After that the front top diff cover comes off along with the front differential assembly. Ill admit it was fun tho lol

Yes i agree with you . I love driving mine but hate working on it lol.
I bought my udr second hand and the first time out it grenades the pinion gear. So I went through and basically rebuilt and upgraded the entire driveline. New bearings aluminum diffs and center driveshaft.

I feel the same about working on my Capras!
The reason I love my UDR is because it’s like working on a REAL TRUCK in a way and that’s what I really like about it.
After watching this I’m glad I chose to get myself an LMT instead of the UDR for Christmas.
Love my UDR, hate working on it. That front shaft is a known issue since the truck came out, and Traxxas absolutely sucks for still shipping them like this years later. Mine stripped on the 3rd pack.
Whenever a part breaks, I just service the whole thing, it doesn’t take that much more time and you get so much more stuff done🤣
Reminds me of my SBR 2.0, a joy to drive and show people but damn so many nuts and bolts and everything was so expensive 😂 large scale problems
Anyways can anyone clue me into common issues with these trucks and in your experience would it make more sense to buy one already upgraded or just run it stock?
It reminds me of working on the Mini-z MB-010 buggy 😅😅
Glad I got the Mojave instead!
I have since sold mine after soending so much money s
Keeping it running
Mate, i love the look of the UDR but damn they are just stupid to work on, I have the 1/10 losi BajaRey V1 and I dread having to work on it, again I love how it looks and performs but damn it's just a pure headache to work on.

Great vid too mate👍👍👍
Put the head lamp in RC Box Hahaha!

You can reach the front set screw also through the arms without taking apart the entire front end
The UDR is long over due for an update.
It’s Not sooo Bad working in UDR but some people really don’t have pation.. Trust me i completely rebuild that bit** after buying used at marketplace and directly switching the weak parts out , never breakes again until now
I feel your pain having little time to even play with my collection let alone fix them myself
Now I see why all of my local hobby shops always have those in stock and they all say they are a pain to work on
Hey Mark if it broke right away couldn't you just send it back to Traxxas and have them send you a new one or send it back to Traxxas and ask them to put the steel drive shafts in it I have a few Traxxas but I've often wondered if they had a build department

Did you get the new ones? MIP?
@MarkSantaMaria i didnt get new ones yet. The mip bits i tbh just can't afford atm. And I just can't see myself paying that much for bits. Just unfortunate timing I guess and it sucks
Yeah, any of those skilled r c trucks, including my super baja takes more wrenching, patience definitely will win lol
Mark with the headlamp on gets an automatic click
😊
Hope you have a new level of appreciation on the Baja Rey race truck I was using for a while 😆
Approaching nitro levels of wrenching frustration...
Hello Everyone. Mark put out a video saying Traxxas put out a cell checker for the trx4m battiers. does anyone know the part number for that? Please and Thankyou
Your missin out on the us open fuel champs dudeeee
Bro this is silly. Just chuck the parts at it and yell “BOOM!!” I see Talbot do it all the time. Works great.
I love my UDR even tho it is a pain in the ass to work on it 😂😂😂😂 but isn’t that the reason why the people who own one love it? The realism of it 😩😩😩😩😩
I suddenly no longer want a UDR lol
I don't think I want the headache of wrenching on one of those
if you run 6s on pavement with UDR you will be fixing broken driveline parts for sure
But working on the RC cars and making them drive good as half the fun this doesn’t make sense at all to me😂
Everything on the UDR is a commonly fragile and easily broken part. It's a great truck unless you want to drive it.
And THAT'S why I will NEVER have a UDR. Everything else from Traxxas is easy to work on. Thanks for taking that bullet Mark! 🤣
Mimimi it’s not so easy to work on then a beginners car .. mimimi 😂
Rc is not just buying and using , but RTR dudes, I think you also , never experienced building completely models , ore even set it up correctly.
But that’s where it came from 😉
And trust me , the fact that you never try an UDR because the fear of working on it also don’t get you into the joy of all the fun these car brings you while driving

Nope. No. Never. At this point I would've stripped it down for parts and never mentioned it again
That's why u don't let anyone drive your rc. Doesn't matter what experience they have my hobbies not yours lmao u can watch
Why wouldn't you just upgrade it while tearing it apart to repair? Since that driveshaft is so weak.
I feel like the Losi Baja rey 2.0 is a much better truck
Im definitely not buying a UDR no thanks there not that cool to have to go through all that 😂
The UDR is one of the only Traxxas vehicles we don't stock and never will. It's weak and awful to work on. There's never a good reason to buy a UDR when the Mojave exists.
Very reason I won't own one
thats the one i want to buy but so many people talk bad about it..
I know why I don´t own a UDR!!!
This is how i do it. ua-cam.com/video/9HzmM-EzCq8/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
