In this video I demonstrate when and how to fertilize fruit tree. You can us granular Fertilizer or use kitchen scraps. They all work great and the kitchen scraps bring in the worms. The worms make free worm castings which is great for the trees and your pocket.
when applying the Fertilizer make sure to keep it away from the trunk of the tree. We do not want to encourage trunk rot. It is also important to scratch the Fertilizer in so it can break down. Mulching thr tree is important for many reasons but it also feeds the tree once it starts to break down.
I'm so gald i found your channel. I love that you're a traditional backyard gardener and use products and techniques that the average joe has access to. You also explain things and show them really well.
Thank you, S M, I'm glad you understand the information I put out. It is awesome to hear that, and I really appreciate it. I'm always trying to get better at presenting to make it clear for the viewers.
Good lecture/ informative thread
HEY, Eliman!!! Thanks, I appreciate it.
Great lesson. I'had apple trees in the yard and I'm just figuring out how to get apples to actually grow.
HEY Artistlovepeace!!! I'm glad you liked the lesson. I know you are happy you figured it out. I had the same problem many may years ago. That apple tree eventually died.
that ☕️ analogy is a good one.
HELLO, curlykiki, thanks. I appreciate that.
Thank you for the info..
No problem, anytime!!
Your tree looks very healthy ❤
HEY, Gigi. Thank you. You know what they say "Another man's trash is another Tree's treasure." Wait, maybe they don't say that🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for the tips. If I added those scraps to my yard, I would never get rid of the ants.😂 They are already trying to take over my yard.
NO problem, LOL, They are taking over my yard, too. This year has been crazy with the ants. I don't have them in my garden yet.
Like your shirt saying!
HELLO Mark!!! Thanks, I appreciate it.
I am debating whether to plant my 2 Asian pears now or wait until after winter. They’re around 5 feet, still young. Can you explain what soil you use in detail? I heard some use cow manure and some said to avoid with young plants. I just juiced huge bowls of carrots, oranges and apples and getting inspired, thanks!
HELLO Camie le, I planted in the soil in my backyard. I did put a layer of black cow compost near the top. Many years ago, I planted an apple tree, but I put only good soil in the planting hole. The tree lived for 3 years but never grew. The roots never spread out because I put only good soil in the hole, and the roots just wrapped around itself. I was always told to let the tree get used to the nature soil. That's what I have done for all my trees. I love Asian pears. I had to cut a few back because of fire blight. I do have some that are resistant, so i did not have to cut the other ones.
I have a lemon tree in a 55 gallon barrel cut in half. I was using miracle grow every 2 or 3 weeks. Is that good. Or do I need to fertilize the tree
HEY, JD!!! I don't use Miracle grow. Some say it's like a person using steroids. You get big results, but it's not healthy for you. I think that's why I don't use it. I don't really know if it's true. I try to use organic fertilizer like tomatoe tone, compost, compost tea, or fruit peels. UA-cam, why I don't use miracle grow by next level gardening. It's up to the grower how they want to fertilizer. So I don't knock anyone if they want to grow with miracle grow.
The rootstock will determine how high your tree will get and you can prune them shorter to a reachable size. The nitrogen you quoted is different if you have a dwarf vs a full size tree (University of Maryland has a good articles on fruit tree care). The pale yellow leaf color is a sign of a lack of nitrogen and the Black kow will help using organics, it could be an optical delusion in the sun. Some pine bark mulch can also build fertility around your trees but it does not last long.
HELLO Vegan-Microfarm. Thanks for watching and the information.
Good job i notice some of your leafs are yellow is that normal? And what is ur soil ph?
HEY Christopher!!! Sometimes, my leaves turn color. When that happens, I add nitrogen. I really need to fertilize my trees for this season. I don't know my soil pH. I stopped checking years ago. If I start having major issues, I might start back.
Can you give advice on how to select the right type of fertilizer
HEY John, I listen to this guy who has a fruit tree nursery in my area. He uses citrus tone for his all his fruit trees. I said it's for citrus, and he told me it works for all fruit trees. So I use that or that bag of fertilizer in the video, which is plant tone. You can also use compost tea when you water your tree. I'm going to do more of that this season. I have a video on compost tea if you need help with that.
Is your secret to Air Layer the lower branch ?
I have not been successful at that. I don't know if my branches were too small. I'm definitely will be trying again. I did try to get a lower branch.
I have a peach bush not a peach tree a peach bush they're called and I can't get the peaches any bigger than the size of a golf ball How do I get them to get bigger and what can I use to keep the deer from eating them
HEY Derek, you taught me something new. I did not know there was such a thing. I was curious, so I looked it up. A peach bush is a species of shrub in the rose family called Prunus andersonii or desert peach. It also said the peaches get dime-sized, so if yours are golf ball size, you are doing great. It also said the peaches are not edible for humans. All I have for keeping deer out would be a fence. I have always heard that marigolds keep deer away. Maybe plant marigolds all around the bush and see.
use a motion activated sprinkler scare deer away
I live in AZ zone 9b and my lemon tree leaves are yellow.
I don't know what's the issue is, but have you been overwatering, or is it raining a lot? The nutrients could be washing away. Many people tree yellow leaves with nitrogen or micronutrients such as zinc, iron, and manganese. Also, is the lemon tree in a sunny location. That's all I got unless you have pest bothering it. GOOD LUCK, let me know if it gets green again.
@@GrowSomethingTasty I added fish emotion and granular fertilizer this week and watered it in.
I won't water for a week and see what happens.
The PH is high in AZ, Ironite is sold everywhere. @@putinhynes3848
Do you have issues with bugs or ants.
HELLO, Putin, yes do I. The squashbug is my enemy. I know every season we are going to clash and plants will get damaged. The ants are eating my strawberries. I will have to lift them higher off the mulch. You may want to think about company planting to get bugs off your plants. Using marigold, nasturtium (did I spell that right, lol), onions, and garlic, etc...
It's recommended u use gloves when handling manure . FYI.
HEY Popeye Sailor!! Thanks for the info.
Yeah yeah, it's also recommended to spit out apple seeds 🥱
