I know y'all finna love this, also, I know you just started watching, but after this series is done, do you plan on watching Korra (the sequel incase you didn't know)
Actually, the worldbuilding in shows like Steven Universe, The Owl House and Gravity Falls is incredible as well, but I'd say ATLA is the show that made all the rest possible and truly changed the industry. So I'd love to see ur reactions to it.
Just by posting ATLA reactions, you're opening up your entire channel to so much growth. That's how good this show is. This is my first time here and I already know a lot of people are gonna enjoy these reactions
Idk what it is but I never get tired of reacting to people watch this show for the first time lols, you guys are in for a wonderful journey please continue to watch till the end it won't disappoint
In response to Airbending seeming like it might be boring at first - My immediate first thought about trying to fight someone who has complete control over air was "oh shit, they could just make a localized vacuum on demand" and all the utterly gruesome stuff one could do with that in a combat situation.
Oh, you have no idea how deadly Air Bending can be... You're in for one hell of a ride ! This series is amazing. Maybe too many kid stuff sometimes, like sounds or situations, but it run really deep. There is a lore explanation for why Katara is the only Water Bender in her tribe or why the Air Benders are thought to be extinct, but that would have to wait until episode 3. I think you'll like Prince Zuko as the story progress. He's one of the best character in the whol show.
One great thing about this show is that there's almost no filler. Even the handful of episodes that are SORT of like filler still have some character development to them.
@@spencernaugle I still maintain that THAT episode is useful, but hey, it's a good sign when it's maybe one episode people point to rather than long episode arcs of nonsense like other series.
I just discovered your channel, and am excited to watch your reactions. 1 episode in, and I can already tell you guys will be towards the tippy top of reactions to this show. I love when people get super engaged with the show and start speculating all kinds of (Usually wrong) theories. Of all the reactions I have seen to the show, you are the first to discuss the fact that the fire nation seems more advanced than the others. I can say this without spoilers, especially since you are a few episodes in by now, and this is never explained in the show, but you are correct. The nature of firebending allows the fire nation to easily, with very little effort, do all the kinds of things that would make a civilization more advanced. They are understandably the first to discover, but will always be the best at things such as steam power, metalworking, and everything those things allow you to do. It is that fact that gives the fire nation an advantage over the others, but when it comes to the specific elements themselves, they are all relatively balanced. I'll let the show do what it does best, and tell you everything else you need to know. The show does a very good job about explaining itself eventually. I cannot wait to see more, and I will try to contain myself, and only explain things that you will not figure out just by watching the show alone. Hell, some of the things I say may end up just being fan theories. I've consumed so much ATLA content, I cannot tell the difference anymore.
The fire nation was based on imperial Japan during world war 2 when they became really technologically advanced so quickly and though they were a small nation, they managed to invade and occupy larger territory.
I started watching it 2 weeks ago and today I'm gonna watch the last 4 episodes. When I watched it as a kid I liked it because of the action scenes and the comedy, but damn, its deeper than that. The character development, the narrative, the story and the plot twists are sooo freaking cool. Right now is my favorite cartoon along with Steven Universe.
The movements used to bend each element are actually based on specific real martial arts. There's a video somewhere about where they show people demonstrating the different martial arts and explain why they chose them.
So many great shows recently! Usually fighting in media bores me to tears, but I grew up loving Avatar and absolutely loving all the fight sequences. The animation and bending are based on actual martial arts styles, and the bending gets so creative in how the elements are affected. I'm so excited for y'all to watch these characters grow. ^u^
So. Book 1 is very episodic, very much kid-oriented (this was a Nickelodeon shows, after all. Even still, Book 1 addresses some very deep and adult issues. Lore drops are meted out in exquisitely measured doses. ALL of the questions you are asking will be answered in the show. The writers excelled at world-building, character development, and storytelling. Books 2 and 3 get more serious, more involved, and ramp up the drama, but still maintain the humor you will come to love. "This is NOT a kids' show" has become a meme because of ATLA. You'll say it eventually. Ages: Aang - 12 Katara - 14 Sokka - 15 Zuko - 16 Iroh is voice by legendary Japanese actor Mako, who also voiced Aku, the villain in Samurai Jack (in addition to his decades-long movie and tv career). Iroh was Mako's final role, as he sadly passed away from cancer after recording all of Book 2. Zuko is voiced by Dante Basco, famous for playing Rufio, the interim leader of the Lost Boys in the Dustin Hoffman-Robin Williams movie "Hook". This show has an absolutely crazy cadre of other A-list actors voicing characters, including James Hong, George Takei of Star Trek fame, Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy from the Harry Potter movies), and many others that I will not reveal here. Appa and all other animals in the show are voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, the voice of the clones in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Animation for each of the bending disciplines is patterned after a real-world martial art. Water is Tai Chi, fire is Northern Shaolin kung fu, earth is Hung Gar, air is Baguazhang. The animators were made to attend training classes so they could get an intimate feel for the movements involved in each style. This makes the fight choreography in this show real-world accurate and better than almost any other animated examples. The animation quality and fight choreography develop and mature as the characters' skill levels increase. It is really noticeable, and so well done. Almost all of the animals in the ATLA world are hybrids. Appa is a manatee-bison, and his 6-legged design was directly inspired by Catbus from "My Neighbor Totoro". The odd-looking 4-armed penguins in Ep. 1 are otter-penguins. Pay attention to all the animals for these fun little details. That's enough for your primer. Enjoy the wild ride that is Avatar: The Last Airbender. I am HERE for it!
So the markings mean that you are an Airbending Master. Airbenders become masters by learning the 37 or so pillars of airbending or learning most of them and then inventing your own move. Aang is the youngest to ever achieved master at 12.

Making it for that new episode every week was truly an event, it was like Game of THRONES for us kids with how invested we were. You're in for such a treat. The world of ATLA is so creative and fun. Love avatar, rewatched it recently, it def starts off a as a kids show but then matures to something more and gets better with the seasons. Also avoid the live action movie like the plague.
The Avatar cycle is based on the 4 seasons of the year. Autumn - (Air). Winter - (Water). Spring - (Earth). Summer - (Fire). So it is "unnatural" and "cursed" for the Avatar to learn the elements in the wrong order.
Non-spoiler: they never explicitly say what the arrow means. What it means is one has mastered Air bending. The tattoos are inspired by flying bison marks, since they are seen as the original (or natural) air-benders. To get tattoos, an air bender must master all 35 tiers or moves of air bending. Aang only mastered 34 moves, but created his own, the air scooter, which was counted as his 35th and allowed him to get his tattoos. This is why Katara makes a face after seeing his tattoos, since it means he is a master of his bending.
