I was fortunate to receive his autograph. I must have been around 13 at the time. Gordon was filming The Professionals in Chambers Wharf, SE London. I sprang when he was heading towards his car. To be honest I was a little bit apprehensive to approach him, but I did. He obliged and I was taken aback by his wonderful charm. I was expecting him to be just like his character in the Professionals, but he was just a lovely man. It may have seem like seconds, but he didn't rush at all. All I remember was his lovely smile. I vaguely remember him saying something along the lines of 'Of course wee laddie, what's your name?' Over the years that line could have been altered. Memory fades but I'll never forget meeting the great Gordon Jackson. RIP
Thanks for the portrayal of George Cowley. ..my favourite shows as a kid...gone now is Lewis collins. .the guy I always wanted to be when I grew up...thanks for playing a happy part of my childhood...I turn 50 this year and can still remember the joy of playing bodie and Doyle with my mate rolling over car bonnets in a scrap yard...you both ain't truly gone if we remember you..r.i.p
I first saw him as Hudson in Upstairs Downstairs, but then mostly in the Professionals as George Cowley. He was a brilliant actor who gave likeable performances, even when he was acting dour. RIP Gordon, and Thank You.
I think its testament to his acting and his real self, that people still talk about him fondly and with enormous amount of respect and admiration. Long may it continue, he deserves it. RIP Gordon.
I would never have believed old Lewis was gone and still cannot accept it even now when I watch these old episodes of the professionals on ITV4 , I mean you see him sprinting around with Martin Shaw? Who'd have thought it then that lousy cancer would do for him? Mind you, with cowley & bodie in Heaven, the place will be like dodge city with God wearing a flak jacket? Lmao
I worked on a house of his many years ago. Gordon had passed away then , met his lovely wife though. For some reason you can really warm to actors and entertainers back then. Hard to do that now
Great actor, loved the proffesionals when i was a little boy and was the one adult programme my mum would allow me to watch as a kid as it was my fav show.
Oh I still got a bit sad although it's so many years... what a wonderful actor he was... one of those very few celebrities I would have loved to meet. Thank you angelfish!
66 was no bloody age, even 20 years ago, though he crammed in more than most of us would manage in 100 years. And to think most of us won't be able to retire until we're 67 or more! I was too young for The Professionals till the reruns which meant I had only just got to know and enjoy Gordon's tremendous talent when he passed. I work with someone now who was born after he died - doesn't it make you feel old! Gordon will always be around though thanks to TV and movies. Class lives forever...
Gordon Jackson is a fantastic actors i watched upstairs downstairs on the Sunday night and the professionals on Fridays Saturdays and Sundays night sadly missed
He was great in Tunes of Glory, holding his own beside Alec Guinness and John Mills, and of course he was also superb in The Great Escape. I still cringe at the 'Thank you' line as he and Richard Attenborough get on the bus to pending freedom.
Its a shame people have to die 😔 his generation are the last of the great actors who didn't need CJI technology i enjoyed watching 👀 THE PROFESSIONALS in the eighties RIP
Yet another fine actor who died too soon, he was only 66 but had some kind of bone cancer. Lewis Collins was 67 when he died, and he died of cancer, but as yet, it has not been disclosed what his cancer was. r.i.p. Gordon and Lewis.
Don't forget about fellow actor Steve Alder who played Murphy in several of the later episodes of 'The Professionals'. He also tragically died of cancer in 1997 at just 47 years old. It's really weird how that awful, dreaded disease took the lives of not only Gordon Jackson, but also Steve Alder AND Lewis Collins. I wonder if all three of them were heavy smokers? Of course, this means that Martin Shaw is now the only surviving main cast member of 'The Professionals'. Presumably, his continued good health must be down to him being teetotal, a strict vegetarian and a non-smoker.
@@stephenalanmoore7278 As is David Soul (Solberg) now only survived by David Glaser, and Antonio Fargas. r.i.p David. and Lewis and Gordon and Steve. From the 1970's.
The Irony is David Soul became a British Citizen and lived in London from the mid 1990's. And :Lewis Collins moved to California because of his infatuation for guns. From what I read, he even wanted to join the SAS.

Yeah so believable as George Cowley keeping Bodie and Doyle in check but allowing the occasional dram to be shared.......66 is young to go.......always remembered though.
Martin Shaw is no hippocrite he is always polite Lew Collins rude arrogant met him in a night club very rude about Martin Shaw he came over has being jealous of Martin Shaw i have met Martin Shaw he is a lovely person
@@alisonscreen Apparently, Martin Shaw and Lewis Collins didn't get along at all while filming the early episodes of 'The Professionals', as Martin deeply resented Lewis replacing his good friend Anthony Andrews in the role of Bodie. Collins and Shaw had first met when they were both cast in one episode of 'The New Avengers' called 'Obsession'. There was also quite a bit of animosity between them while filming that, too. I suppose that you could just put it down to a personality clash between two very different types of actor. In fact, when the two stars were not required on set, they led entirely seperate lives and each of them had their own set of friends and hobbies. So, if you excuse the pun, they were just very professional with each other, but certainly not close friends.
