      Upset doesn't necessarily mean angry.
      It means "no longer stable." Like you could upset a stack of dishes, so they nearly topple. Tilted, or no longer straight/sturdy, because of negative emotions. People very sad, are very upset.

      When the French invaded England they controlled the Church, the Courts, the government. So their words were the formal ones. The Anglosaxons remained peasants, that's why we find Germanic words in the countryside vocabulary

    Very useful! Just a tip: unless words usually appear with a capital letter at the start, write them in lower case. When learning a new word, students will often replicate how they are first introduced to it.
