You should try to manually tune in your gain. At 20ft, I normally run the gain between 65%-75%. It does make your bait a bit smaller but does clear out your screen of any interference compared to using auto gain settings.
I always manual tune. Every lake is different, every spot on same lake is different. You should never auto tune gain . Always manual tune range too, that is always way off.
Thank you. I am fishing for walleye in February .. I normally fish from a marina for crappie. I am still trying to understand the traditional kit vs. the ice transducer This was helpful in the need to have it with me and test
thank you for your comments! I definitely prefer the ice transducer. No fiddling around, you put it in the hole and it has the proper angle every time! Thanks for watching!
Awesome vid.. exactly what I was looking for... from my research the difference w gt8 is u can adjust cone angle whereas dual beam only has 2... this vid helped me make my decision 👍
@@yakin_n_bassin8203 awesome! I’m gearing up to start yak fishing. I’m new to yaks, I have plenty of boat, float tube and shire fishing, but never a kayak. I’m looking forward to it. Do you have any vids?
I’m glad you found it helpful! I love the ice ducer, but you certainly don’t need it. I used the regular ducer for 2 seasons and caught plenty of fish. Thanks for watching!
I have no experience with the GT8-IF. From what I have read it is 250 watt, where as the GARICEXD or Iceducer is 500 watt. Also the cost is significantly lower for the GARICEXD a GT8HW is almost the same price a Sttiker 4 here in Canada. I read a lot of good reviews about the GT8HW however. But I personally would go with the GARICEXD. Due to price point and known performance. I can see my tungsten jig in 35 feet of water. But it is entirely up to you and your preference. Thanks for your comment!
You should definitely use the 200 CHIRP not the 77... Your wrong about this choice: high Kz for high resolution and low Kz for deep water (long waves travel better than short waves). For the rest, good review!
thanks for your comments! I appreciate your feedback. I chose the 77 kHz frequency because I was fishing a smooth shallow bottom and wanted the wider cone the 77 kHz provides. Next time out in that spot I will give the 200 kHz frequency more of go. Thanks for watching!
Thanks man! I’m definitely buying this now. How far is the transducer hole from your other two holes? Awesome review. It ALSO helped me for my kayak as well because I didn’t even know about some of the settings you showed me in this review that will help for that as well.
thanks for the sub! I’m glad I could help, I love this unit! The holes are maybe a 2 feet apart at the most. This unit is a beaut! It picks up my dead stick and my active rod. I used in the Kayak all summer as well (did a video on the transducer arm) and it was fantastic! Good luck this season man! Thanks for watching!
The deepest I’ve used it has been about 30 feet. It’ definitely works good. I can’t speak to anything deeper than that. Yet….. Hopefully that helps with your question.
@@footprintoutdoors6144 Thanks! I am regularly working depths of 120ft on the ice that is why I asked... I dont really want to spend $140-$160 for the Gt10ht transducer although i have heard it works well in deep water.
@@montanastrongremodelrenova1632 that’s pretty deep. I can understand not wanting to spend if you don’t have too. I like the other benefits as well. The cable is longer and more flexible (silicon coating?), but also the confidence of know the transducer has the correct angle when in the hole. I can’t see me working the depths you do anytime soon. Hopefully you have a great season!
I am very happy with it. If you are on a tight budget or just starting out for ice fishing, I would recommend saving your money for other gear and essentials. The pros and cons for this unit... Pros - short cable length, always the correct angle when dropping in the hole, cost is lower than the other two ice ducers Garmin offers. Cons- additional cost, does not give water temp. For me I do not regret the purchase. It’s nice being able to drop the transducer in the hole and not worry about making sure it it’s at the right angle for a proper sonar return. Or having to check and or readjust if bumped. And for hole hopping it’s ideal. For me it has added real piece of mind. You absolutely do not need it, but I’d buy it again based on the price and convenience of the ice transducer. Hopefully that helps. Thanks for watching!

Yes I'm a bassboat converted to a yak angler and luv it... my striker 4 does double duty...

Great info for me! Was in same situation with the boat trans. I got the dual beam ice ducer coming.

That was the perfect comparison! Think I'll save the money and just stick with my boat transducer.

Hey great comparison. What is the correct angle for the boat ducer when ice fishing?
That’s for the compliment.
I usually would aim for 90 degrees.

Was rock with a bit of silt but the 200kh chirp wouldn’t pick up anything the 77 was way better
If u watch other videos the cone on the 200 is smaller so should be better but not the case for me
I’ve seen the same for videos.
I find the 77 kHz chirp is excellent for the depths I fish 30 feet or less.
77 worked perfect 6 lakers today
I was in 97 feet today and the 77 kh was better than to 200
Thanks for watching!
Wow!
That’s impressive!
What kind of bottom?
Smooth, rocky etc?
