  • 👉 Learn how to solve rational equations. A rational expression is an expression in the form of a fraction where the numerator and/or the denominator are/is an algebraic expression. There are many ways to solve rational expressions, one of the ways is by multiplying all the individual rational expressions by the lowest common multiply (LCM) of the denominators. This eliminates the denominators and then we can evaluate the resulting equation accordingly.
It is very helpful to check your results by substituting them into the original equation to see if they are true. This also helps to identify the extraneous solutions. An extraneous solution is a solution that is obtained during the course of solving an equation but which does not hold true for the original equation.

Growing up, I had TWO math teachers ask me if I was stupid in front of the entire class. I cannot begin to imagine how lucky your students are to have a teacher that actually breaks down all the parts of equations and explains them in an easily understood way while also being encouraging. I appreciate all that you do!

Nice video, gave you a like as always. At 2:26 you are not an idiot. But correcting a mistake is fine for your own work, but when teaching math like this, it is better to start over. I sensed that some of your class got confused as they had to "hack and slash" what they were writing down as corrections (confusing edits with cancels).
If you have a computerized tablet (not a chalk/white board) you can "spread out" terms electronically to get new terms to fit. But on a white/chalk board, it is best to rewrite the equations below with the new terms. In your case, the red terms were so far away it got a bit confusing. Then you squeezed them in elsewhere (why one student missed where the 'x' came from).
We are all pressed for time, I have only 2 hours a day for Math in my Summer STEM course - couple that with I may have K thru 12 in the same class. It's amazing that a kindergartener can follow what I am showing seniors (I tell them it is just puzzle with rules). When they get to learn this later, they will have the a ha moment, "I saw this in STEM class many years ago). I have found that if I write slowly, very neatly, and constantly, my students retain more. Math is more retaining than just learning alone. Take the rule of exponents. You miss (forget) one and you can forget calculus. Keep up the great work.

      the x^2 - x , he factored it. since x^2 has 2 x's then it is equal to x ( x - 1 ). becuase x times x is x^2 and x times -1 is -x, which makes it x^2 - 2. It was the lcd since the all the other denominators, have an x and a 1.
