These things are not even close to roaches! Roaches are ugliest thing, pill bugs, and the giant isopod are babies I love them. I even keep pill bugs as pets!
Have you ever seen a pillbug or a roly poly? Meet its aquatic cousin. These guys are so quirky, it's great. They even made a Pokemon (Wimpod/Golisopod) after them. They're KINDA CUTE???
wouldn't both an isopod and a hagfish be stressed at the super low water pressure in a tank compared to the depths they normally live at? Not that something so simple as an isopod or hagfish really needs weak animal rights, I'm just curious if restocking is frequent/necessary.
Remember these are found in the North Gulf of Mexico. That is relatively shallow compared to the normal depths you see deep sea isopods and hagfish. If you were to try to take an Atlantic or Pacific version, they probably would die. In this case they probably took trial and error to find specimens which could survive in a normal tank.
Interesting, so if you ever find one and don't know the species or origin the best thing to do for it is keep it in a salt water solution of appropriate ratio until identified. ..still need more research.
Thank you So Much for this interesting story (!). And.., I have to you just a one question: if you've catched this underwater creature for the New York big aquarium.., is it possible to keep Isopod in the home aquarium (???...). Thanks, for earlier, BfK. 👍🆗🎯😘⭐🐛⭐🐛⭐🐛⭐🐛⭐💯🆒😍
This is less roach and more like a oversized rolly polly or the Pill bugs or wood lice. those little guys you see on the ground in your gardens. You want these guys around. They are basically organic Romba's for the ocean.
Catch em' all fishing faked catching literally 4 isopods in a shity pvc pipe trap in a FRESHWATER POND! We really need to get more people on his ass about that!
I thought i was the only one that called them that. I live in California and they are very common about two feet down in the sand on the beachs. But they are only a couple of inches big, if that.
Chino Najaki that’s the wrong creature. You’re thinking of is a giant centipede named the arthropleura which was about fifteen feet long. Sorry if you have insectophobia.
Chino Najaki: Maybe you are thinking of the extinctTrilobite. That is what the Isopod makes me think of. To me the Trilobite (according to fossils found) kinda resemble the Isopod. It is believed the Trilobite had segmented shells or body, and that they too may have been able to curl into a ball.
My daughter just told me she'd throw me off the bed and into the make believe sea of roaches. Told her "That's ok, they'd be all dead". To my disappointment she said "What if sea roaches are real, like alive?" And lo and behold to prove her wrong... 🙄😒 what'd u know...they are real. Ugh! 6 year old daughter - 1 point Mother of 6 YO daughter - 0
No. Horseshoe crabs, unlike these creatures and their further relatives, are not isopods, nor even crustaceans. If such was the case than the Roly polies of your backyard would also be considered horseshoe crabs.
Isopods are adorable ☺️
The small land ones are basically cockroaches so no !
It’s real isopod hours

Goliosopod is an absolute tank

*Mr. Isopod is not amused.*
call me weird but i see the isopod cute
I didn't know they can survive in low pressure since they are naturally found at deep sea floors
1:44 it looks like those creatures in the Dark Crystal film!
What y'all feed these? Doritos?
The carcasses of whales, giant squids, and large sharks. It's their common diet on the ocean floor.
That is one beautiful creature I'm sure they have some ancient link to this world
I read it on readers digest which is shown on this video, been fascinated by it ever since.

Unlike most deep sea creatures, hagfish and giant isopods fare relatively well under normal atmospheric pressure.
Isopods are among the hardiest invertebrates.

Oh thank no god they don't have that pressurization requirement that kills sea pigs when you bring them upwards.
Hmmm if they can survive under lower pressures unlike a lot of deep sea life, how come we dont see them ike almost ever in shallower waters naturally?
Catch em' all fishing faked catching literally 4 isopods in a shity pvc pipe trap in a FRESHWATER POND! We really need to get more people on his ass about that!
roaches check in but they don't check out!
Shedd Aquarium has a deep-sea isopod.
What do yall think of people eating this sea bug??
I agree with Japan

So it used to be extinct? Or am I missing something

does it taste like lobster?
The very little meat in it tastes slightly like lobster but theres tons of tubes and fluid sacks that make it not worth it
Ew tubes and fluid sacks? Just what the hell even is this thing?
A crustacean, closely related to the woodlouse (aka roly polies, pill bugs, armadillo bugs, etc).
Yes! And I hear it's more common cousin the Pillbug also tastes much like shrimp! Who knew?
