So funny we were crazy for sure on Ex Clockwork North early 80s wearing shit gear and wooden skis... nothing a tott of rum could not fix along with our jaegaer brethren of telemark.
Respect to all soldiers, but please dont delude yourself by saying "how we were among the only soldiers in the world fighting in -40 degrees"

Great to see the Brits and the Norwegians working together. The Norwegians are a great friend and ally. No doubt the British Army/ Marines have benefitted immeasurably over the decades from working along side the Norwegians in terms of learning how to soldier in these conditions.

My dad is in the Royal Marines and he got sent out with 59 squadron to Norway and he said everything that is in this video is true
Some serious kit! I remember watching videos of the Royal Marines in the 2000's and early 2010's. The equipment and uniform of then pales in comparison to now.

British Army used to have one infantry Battalion And a Logistics force based at Buford and part of the NATO quick reaction force known as Ace mobile force , now disbanded ,the Royal Marines had a small party of guys who were Artic warfare advisors attached to it , and every year January-march the unit deployed to Norway to conduct artic warfare training , and every 2nd year they would head up North to meet up with the NATO Force and a major winter warfare exercise operating on the Northern flank .
God bless the royal marines artic warrior angels
Its good to see you support us 🇬🇧🇳🇴
And my dad has done that....wow can't wait wait to join in a year
absolute warriors
We Dutch are proud to see our Marines working together!
Seeing the Rm training in this theater this just brings back all the stories of the incredible sometimes almost unbelievable commando raids throughout norway during ww2 and i'm glad to see the Rm stamping out its own identity as an elite fighting force again. I think after afghanistan the Rm where starting to just fade in and look like any other regiment to most people i think with the whole going back to the commando roots of 1940s ect was a good move to re-establish as a special forces regiment once again and not just another part of the british army
The RM are actually a department of the RN.....the ‘Men’s Department’.....#joke 😂😂
I spent 5 winters in Norway during the 80s so nice to see Commandos going back to their roots - not much has changed by the looks of it, a bit more tech but its still down to blokes on skis
Make this the Royal Marines advert on TV and you will get a lot of new recruits.

I’ve always wanted to know what happens to the skis after they get released in the water? Suppose I’ll find out soon enough..
When you practice these drills, the Skis are not actually attached. They have a piece of cord on and an instructor pulls them back up for the next lad.
Most skis used today will float if they break of the boots.
In my opinion, the Royal Commandos are a tier three SF regiment.
Thanks guys.
The absolute best.
Royal Navy also needs to consider investing in "Diesel Electric Subs" to boost its Underwater fleet.
UK being a Permanent member of UNSC & a recognised Global Power needs a good mix of SSKs, SSNs & SSBNs.
SSKs can provide a much more affordable option for Coastal Water Security allowing the Nuclear Subs to focus on International Sea Operations.
After BREXIT its for UK's Defence & Aerospace industry to develop equipment that it can sell to other Friendly Nations like Canada, Australia etc.

Cool. This is called basic training here in Finland ; )
Yep, in primary school
Yes it is what conscripts do =)
Very impressive. But I might add Royal Marine Commandos also train to fight in the Jungle, in the Desert, in the tropics, in the mid Atlantic, and frankly anywhere else they need to. They will never live up to Finish Soldiers in cold environments but i'd like to see Finish Conscripts take the fight as effectively as RM do to anyone anywhere south of Italy.
I get what you're saying. Big respect to our Finnish allies for guarding the Eastern border of Europe. You guys are some of the toughest people on the planet. When the Soviets tried it you certainly fucked them up.

Pretty much what every Canadian soldier knows and does in our cold weather theatre, except we don't have the Brits' Gucci kit.
I believe Canada is still part of the Commonwealth....in which case you could apply to join the RM and have the “Gucci kit”....😉
@@pennywise146 There are residency requirements in the UK, which unfortunately not every aspiring Canadian soldier can afford to go through.
Here's a sleeping bag and an extra pair of socks. Good luck. That's pretty much what we get. If we're on base in Ontario, we get snowshoes and a 12 man tent.
Didn't have any of that Gucci kit in my time and im guessing that most of it is in short supply now. The kind of shit that comes out with the cameras and goes back in the stores once filming is complete. Remember UK doesn't have Americas military budget, these guys come under the RN and they prefer to spend money on ships.

Why does 'continuing restructure' always sound like 'more government cuts' to me?
The British armed forces have indeed been on the receiving end of budget cuts over the past decade, but the Royal Marines probably didn't suffer as much as other units because they're considered a priority.
Regardless, this video is probably referring to the change in their operational remit, motivated by changing operational requirements.
They operated more like Infantry while in Afghanistan but are now returning to their traditional special forces role, with particular emphasis on amphibious assault and support.

Biggest mistake i made was ruining my chance of enlisting 3 bloody times... Before the year was up and me being a cocky little prick id been in more trouble.. A Marine i knew told me basically let it go ill probably never be accepted into the Marines... So i tried The Royal Engineers and first time the same old story come back in a year so i got through the year and added a few more lines to my criminal record and went back and the recruiter more or less told me ive f_cked up joining up by being the little dickhead i was... Now im a 50 year old whos still being a dickhead but NOT adding anything to my record... ooohhh.well back to work i go and playing the Lotto is the only dream i have now... lmfao.. 😀😀😁😁😂😂😂🤣🤣😃😃😄😅😅😅😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

Yes, we can chat over nice bottle of vodka with Vlad, but when we disagree over arctic territory, guns do the talking.
India says Cute. The Russians actually called us for guidance when they were raising a new Mountain Brigade about a decade back
Don’t convert all the RM units to special support groups keep some for conventional warfare unless it really is just about cost cutting
It's not nothing to do with cost cutting, it's about the Corp going back to it's roots and doing what it does best.
We sorta lost our way around the start of the 80's, as this is what we used to do previously and still did when I was in back in the 70's.
@@Bootneck-RMC sorry to burst your bubble but this is as much about cost cutting and the survival of the Royal marines as it is about getting back to commando routes. They can't recruit enough bodies into SF this is the solution, the fancy new kit etc all comes at a cost 3cdox will not remain the size it is
Bootneck In the 70’s,80’s & 90’s we adapted to the way the world was at the time (Cold War , Falkland, N.I etc.)....we are now confronting a different type of enemy and therefore we have to adapt (like all good Commandos) to our surroundings. I’ve been out for over 18 years but still have a ‘relationship’ with the Corps, so I can see how we needed to change....plus,the generation that have now replaced us,are a different breed...(I am not suggesting they aren’t better or worse than we were)...that have a different outlook on life. I know so many mates of mine that did the ‘full whack’ of 22 years because the pension was ‘hoofin’....but nowadays, your average Bootneck will not stick around for that long because the pension package sucks...yes, they get ‘incentives’ for signing on etc...but believe me,overall,it’s rubbish. The Royal Marines have been around for so long because of their ability to change....this is just another of those changes that we have to make to survive. #peace ✌🏻
