The Caravan Channel also filmed a factory tour just after the introduction of AluTech construction, the difference is striking, then the workers weren't in any form of corporate workwear, rarely any safety footwear and it appeared that they were on piecework. Now it's work uniform and safety wear, less noise and a more disciplined look to activities. Thanks for the updated tour.
Superb video- after seeing all the work involved in the construction process, i realise what great value for money my Bailey caravan is!- thanks to the whole dedicated team at Bailey and to you, for making this video 👍👍
What a very interesting video. I never thought I’d get to see how a caravan like ours started life. You obviously worked extremely hard to get this access so thank you. Cheers Stuart and Rebecca.
I think that’s the best and most honest caravan manufacturing video I have seen. Both parts were highly informative and importantly for me, highlighted how manual a caravan build still is. The fast moving and highly organised teams working to tight deadlines was fascinating but also shows how easy it could be to either miss a step or to not complete that step effectively. Especially considering many manufacturers may use temporary staff during busy periods who may not have much experience at all. We all read the bad experiences of new caravan owners and it’s easy to see why when comparing the process to the automotive industry. Great video Dan. Well done
They've gone through all that trouble designing the Alutech system but still join the flat part of the roof where water will pool, the old fashioned way with mastic
Thank you for your tour part 1 and 2, I am from New Zealand and had seen locally made caravans and campervans being assembled but because those were of wooden frame construction (a build process little changed from early coach building) the assembly method is vastly different to the modern UK designs.
Hi Dan, great video...one of the most concise, informative and professional How To...production videos I have ever seen. My partner and I have learnt a lot from your channel. All the best to you and your family. Thanks!! 😁
Very well shot and edited video. I thought it was Baileys own promo at first. Thanks for taking your time to produce this. Happy travels everyone. John
Interesting vlog Dan, good to see how the Bailey caravan is put together. it’s a very organised factory 🤔 Thanks for bringing this to us. cheer Martin 🙂
Excellent pair of videos. I know how difficult it is to film in a working environment and then edit and get everything in the correct sequence. Well done. Regards Mark in the UK
Top videos, both parts ... and give a great insight into Bailey caravan production methods. Not easy to do in a fast working environment, so well done Dan and keep the vlogs coming.
I've now watched this, Swift and Elddis factory tours. They're all very similar: a metal chassis, then wood furniture and a lot of mastic assembled very quickly. Elddis hammer aluminium sheet round the external joins.
Really enjoyed watching these videos Dan You have put a lot of detail in these and must have took you a long time including visiting site filming and then editing video for us Can't thank you enough as I personally would never have seen inside caravan making factory ever Thankyou for all your hard work I Really enjoyed watching the videos
Great video Dan really in-depth look into how they put together the good old caravan. Maybe swift and the other manufacturer can let you in there companies to have a good look round. Would be good to see the different techniques they all use. Keep up the great work. Kind regards Gary.
Wish I had seen this before we bought our Bailey. Never would have bought one. t's interesting that the wood appears to be planed softwood with no paint or protective coating. No wonder the floors rot!
Great video Dan, however, At 8:30 on the timeline, you can clearly see the engineer miss about 3-4" of sealant in the joint. Come on Bailey, where is you QC there.
I was about to say that. I would give him a slab of beer to slow down and use up 10 tubes of sealant. Totally flood that strip. All that nice work to be ruined by a water leak. I like the way the panels curve over the ends allowing for just one joint.
Hi Dan back in the 70's I went to the Hillman Imp factory in Scotland with my dad I was shocked to see them adjusting the door fit with a length of 4x2 timber by comparison this looks like quite a slick operation .
Great video Dan, you really made it look & sound like they know what they are doing, I worked there for 16 years, a high % of the workforce is temp labour who dont give a toss, the permanent employees hate the place. Baileys sales are dropping off, production is being reduced, they are having extended holidays, quality is poor, but the factory looks lovely
Thats very interesting. At times they looked really amateurish and some just had filthy jeans on and didn’t seem to be taking any care or pride in their work. Such a shame!
Fascinating. I have an interest in ice cream vans and with these the shell is put onto the donor van before the inside is installed, the opposite of what happens here. It makes more sense to put the outside on later in the production process saves having to lift things through windows.
8.34 into the video, the mastic had a couple inches missing, went from about a 10mm bead to almost nothing. if this were my business with the quality and workmanship shown here I would nt allow filming.
Great video Dan but very shocked on how thin the wooden floor is. Looking at the video Bailey haven't learnt from past mistakes. I am right in saying that it is polystyrene then thin wood glued to it and then top floor applied. Do you no what warranty Bailey have put on the floor construction not the sides and roof?. Can't see the floor lasting more than 5yrs if your lucky may be this is why they can afford to sell them so cheaply. It would be interesting to see what you have to say.
Nice one Dan, we have just bought a Bailey unicorn Cadiz, pick it up in about two weeks time, it’s a 2017 model, so if you have or recommend any videos on the Cadiz I would appreciate it, thanks again Dan,👍👍.
A large conglomerate moving into this market using spare motor vehicle manufacturing capacity and modern unibody designs would bury companies like Bailey and Swift overnight.
Dan I have a challenge for you well more like a bit of advice we have a compass corona 524 club 2009 we love this caravan as it is our first we picked this for 2 reasons the main reason is the layout we wanted a full bathroom with separate toilet sink and shower the 2nd reason was price £7500 we did not wat to spend a lot of money just in case caravanning wasn't for us but we love it so we could have spent more but now we are sticking with the corona my question is we use 2 different cars to tow with this means depending on which car we use we have to keep pulling the number plate off and sticking the other plate on for local trips eg 2 hour drive we use our 2018 grand c4 Picasso but for longer trips we use 2010 Freelander 2 2.2 td4 S what we would like is a system that we can just replace the number plate without having to pull off sticky pads and re- apply more, I am not sure if I can screw in a quick release system BTW great videos
Hi John, very simple - just buy a removable number plate holder, like those used in the haulage industry. www.trailertek.com/trailer-parts/number-plate-holder?gclid=CjwKCAjw8ZHsBRA6EiwA7hw_sbfWfcYMqpp5p7hjzyYutdukas1rNTMhpMtpK4OEKPuHxvFaMXk0YhoC6x4QAvD_BwE Hope that helps. Dan
Been watching you video's for a while and found the enjoyable and interesting. Hope to see a few more now I've subscribed to your channel and note you use the same dealership as we do Thank again for the video's.
I have a 2024 Phoenix GT75, and every corner of my shower has a bead of silicone round it! Is that right, or have they botched it up somehow and had to seal it?
Great video although it's not inspired me to purchase a Bailey anytime soon! Only one point of quality control rather than one at each stage of production, kicking the door into place and ridiculously crude sealant work to name a few 🤔
Agree with all those points. They are the things that stood out for me too. I had a new 2013 unicorn that had a number of quality issues but the amount of sealant slapped about was really poor.
@@andyintegrale I'm really surprised how much caravans still rely on basic methods of jointing materials and panels together, and the use of sealants applied by hand which adds the obvious human error (or lack of pride) element.
Craig Tinsley I now have an Adria. Not to everyone’s taste but build quality was really important to me. If you search on YT for Adria factory tour yo’ll see their set up. And it looks night and day to me. There is a Bailey factory tour video by Practical Caravan from a number of years ago and to Bailey’s credit they do look to have come along way from then.
Morning Richie, yes - a chap is inside the caravan tightening the bolts, its quite cleverly choreographed and everyone knows which bolt will be tightened first etc.
Very informative. Just think the application of sealant on sides and roofstrap is too slapdash and insufficient. Is it any wonder my roof strap on my 2017 pegasus leaked like sieve. Great video though.
And a short time later the roof strap will fail and the caravan will fill with water and cause damp in the TIMBER floor. You probably missed or were late with your service due to covid so no chance of warranty work. Lots of people in this situation. Anyway your floor will go damp even without this leak. Bailey can't seem to get away from it. I know.....I had one. Avoid Bailey !!!!!
Can't really see why some are knocking the manufacturing process at Bailey have you seen other caravans being built can't see it being that much different no manufacturing process is perfect.
Looking at the casual approach to applying sealant, you can understand why so many end up with water ingress.
Very impressed. The whole programme was TV quality!
That would be my dream day out ! Green with envy ...
Thank you, from The TRUDGEN family in Willaston, South Australia, Australia

Great video. A real insight into why bailey is the right choice for me.
Is that what they mean?, when they say kick the door in! 😆
Superb video Dan. A big thank you to Bailey for allowing you to video and share this. See you in a few days.
Fantastic videos. I thoroughly enjoyed watching both parts. Well done Dan!!!
Another great video. Really enjoyed watching part 1 and 2 of this factory tour. Thank you very much.
Thanks for a great video Dan. I'm in my 640 watching it and it brings home just how much work goes into assembling a Bailey caravan.
Well done for making this video together! It is very exciting to see this!
Excellent video Dan. I really enjoyed watching that insight as to the production of a caravan. Really interesting! Well done! 👍👌
They've gone through all that trouble designing the Alutech system but still join the flat part of the roof where water will pool, the old fashioned way with mastic
You have a great narrative voice..
Thank you for your tour part 1 and 2, I am from New Zealand and had seen locally made caravans and campervans being assembled but because those were of wooden frame construction (a build process little changed from early coach building) the assembly method is vastly different to the modern UK designs.

Very professional & informative video. Bailey should use it as a promo video & pay you course. Enjoyed watching both parts. thank you
Great video dan. Was just amazing to watch how it went from a chassis to a fully finished van.
Yes. Yet another excellent film.
Thanks Dan, enjoyed both parts. Even though my caravan isn't a Bailey it is a good insight for me into how modern caravan are built
Lucky you, so fascinating, thank you for taking you time to video, and great commentary.
Interesting vlog Dan, good to see how the Bailey caravan is put together. it’s a very organised factory 🤔 Thanks for bringing this to us. cheer Martin 🙂
Great video of the entire process.

Great informative vid Dan. Thank you
Brilliant, really enjoyed both of these, excellent filming

Hi Dan. Both vids were very informative. It’s not surprising really that the odd problem occurs from time to time. Take care. Steve
I found this fascinating. Thanks.
Very interesting and a professional production Thankyou.
Maybe one day you be able to do the motorhomes that would be cool. Great video keep them coming .
.
Excellent video and very interesting- thanks Dan
Super video Dan.
Wish I had seen this before we bought our Bailey. Never would have bought one. t's interesting that the wood appears to be planed softwood with no paint or protective coating. No wonder the floors rot!
I wonder if it's even marine plywood?!
Great video Dan, however, At 8:30 on the timeline, you can clearly see the engineer miss about 3-4" of sealant in the joint. Come on Bailey, where is you QC there.
Fantastic video, really enjoyed both of them. A total eye opener.
Thanks for this Brilliant Video.
It was all looking good until I saw Steve Wonder putting the sealant on the roof/side joint at 8 minutes!! . I’d be worried if that was mine...
I was about to say that. I would give him a slab of beer to slow down and use up 10 tubes of sealant. Totally flood that strip. All that nice work to be ruined by a water leak. I like the way the panels curve over the ends allowing for just one joint.

Well done, the truth is out and hurts. Some have reason to speak highly of Bailey. Some tell the truth. Well said 🦁
Thats very interesting. At times they looked really amateurish and some just had filthy jeans on and didn’t seem to be taking any care or pride in their work. Such a shame!
I so agree
Great video Dan

Extremely interesting video Dan. Thoroughly enjoyed, thanks ;))
Great video a real eye opener, loved it thanks
hugely interesting and enjoyable
Very interesting and highly informative. Loved it! :)
Excellent video as usual. Fascinating stuff this. Thank you so much for the building process insight Dan. Ian...
Nice one Dan
Thanks for sharing , convinced us to do a deal on a late 2023 Pegasus Grande Brindisi
Thanks for sharing very impressed
Thank you so much loved the video
Absolutely fascinating, thank you. I wonder how that process has changed in the 20+ years since our caravan was made. Kev.
Fascinating.
8.34 into the video, the mastic had a couple inches missing, went from about a 10mm bead to almost nothing.

Great video
Ciekawy odcinek. Super Dobra robota.
Really interesting Dan.
Impressive factory. 👍
Really enjoyed these videos 🙂
wow great in site to the construction, very interesting, great job, thanks for doing the video, ps hoping to have a bailey one day.
Brilliant. I don’t understand why they’ are thumbs down.
Great video Dan but very shocked on how thin the wooden floor is.

I wonder how many of these guys go caravanning?
Interesting to see what goes on Dan, very informative. Although seeing one operative kicking the door into position made me wince a bit.
not surprised at that having seen how cars are built that would make you wince seeing how those doors are adjusted to fit
What did u want him to do hit it with a hammer?
Excellent thank you

Hope that helps.
Dan
7:58 Now I can see why I struggle to get my awning past the joints!!
Until now I had no idea they built the inside before adding the walls! Did I think they squeezed everything in through the door? Doh!
That's why if you need to do any work to it, you have to dismantle it totally to get to anything.
Great video as always Dan. But may I ask a question? Why don't we see as much of your vlogs these days?
Be good to see how the manufacturers deal with warranty repairs
Hi Dan, a very informative video. Thanks. Do you know how long (hours / days?) each van takes from first station to being wheeled out to dispatch?
How long does it take from start to finish? Thanks for making these, i found them very interesting and your description very good. A*!
Dan another great video, do you know whether Bailey have addressed the Truma vent pipes slipping off ? The issue you brought up in an earlier video.
Been watching you video's for a while and found the enjoyable and interesting. Hope to see a few more now I've subscribed to your channel and note you use the same dealership as we do

very good vids and amazing how these are made but i am a bit worried they are going to fast and may miss certain things
What's the build time per caravan?
Wow! That was amazing. I had no idea they built from the inside out. How do they tighten those alutech bolts? Is it from the inside
Very interesting , are Swift made roughly the same method ?
6:00 where can you buy that strip that is on both plates?
Can you buy direct from the manufacturer
Watching this makes me realise that a caravan is quite good value for money.
A join on the roof isn't great. I didn't think they did that anymore.
And a short time later the roof strap will fail and the caravan will fill with water and cause damp in the TIMBER floor.
