The only legitimate criticism towards Frost : “ You are too good, slow down a bit”. Badass
"Face painting, church.....scaring" good save
Exactly what I was thinking XD
I’m going to advocate for Frost playing too well on this, cus I feel sorry for the guy. On Satyricon’s latest album, Satyr told that in the making, the drum lines where becoming too technical and asked for a more simple feeling.
I always feel that 1349 is Frost’s playground to murder his kit in all it’s glory. I count on that actually hahaha
I was listening to Liberation last night and Frost certainly was murdering that kit from start to finish
It doesn't make sense to feel sorry for a guy who has never complained about his role in Satyricon. The drumming on the last Satyricon album was amazing. And instead of everyone saying how they feel sorry for him, or how he's limited in Satyricon why don't they simply ask themselves "maybe he's happy with what he's doing in Satyricon?". If he was really unhappy he'd leave. And even Alex Scholnik of Testament said he only plays a fraction of what he's capable of in Testament, but he feels it's more important to play what he feels the song needs. A true musician knows that you play what most compliments the song not your ego.
yes after 26 years of creative partnership I suspect they're able to make suggestions without hurting each other's feelings haha
I love 1349 and have really been digging the sample singles. I can't wait to listen to this.
Also, how did no one in the office correct his pronunciation of chasm?
Blackened thrash is what has allowed me to actually enjoy the black metal genre, at least partially. Witchery, 1349, Behemoth (recent albums) have allowed me to enter the genre, along with Celtic Frost's Monotheist and Tryptikon. .Modern black metal has demonstrated to be quite flexible, from thrash to folk and even prog. Who would have thought that the most extreme metal genre could be also the most versatile. By the way, Gaahl's Wyrd last album is fantastic.
Overkill rewind best metal albums from 1349.
Belgian monks were doing the best metal then.
I’m still pretty excited to give this a listen. Any band who puts out masterpieces like Beyond the Apocalyspe and Hellfire more than deserves a fair shake. It’s gonna be great seeing them with Uada and Cloak next month
Me too :)
Danny Dircio not the last album.
@Danny Dircio dont listen to people we are idiots. Just give it a listen.
Deff not missing that tour! Esp since I've never seen 1349 live before
@Danny Dircio I don't understand why people say this so much. Uada doesn't sound like Mgła to me.
Are you gonna start using a Fantano-esque color-coded flannel system?
The review is reminiscent of that tool as well
cant wait for "the great old ones" and " "alcest" new albums review. I SHALL LOVE THEM
Me too! My most anticipated albums this year
Please note that Oct.18 will go down in history forever as the first day of Blaine's radical transition to what henceforth will be known as his "LUMBERJACK" phase, phase ONE, in which the buttons are fully engaged all the way to the top. Both the short sleeved and LONG sleeved tee shirts have been eschewed. Such a TRAGIC turn of history.
This is my first 1349 album and think it's pretty good.
For some reason, digging into their discography didn't really catch my interest, but this album did.
''It´s October here in Canada''.
I listened to the album on the Season of Mist channel before this and honestly I didn't even notice the interludes. I like the black/thrash sound, as opposed to the blackened thrash, which I love but is getting samey with so many other blackened thrash bands out there. I give this album 4 out of 5 invisible black metal lightbulbs being replaced. And Blayne, it's pronounced kazm. :)
SHAZAM!
Agree with you completely. Since it's bm with some thrash thrown in it seems more interesting and original to me. I really like how they did it. I'm enjoying this album a lot.
Hey guys, does anybody of you know where i can get these black and white band logos on the wall on the left sude in the background?
1349 is a number that has been following me for years now. I see it all over the place, times on clocks, prices in shops and petrol stations, durations of videos, songs… etc. Just keep seeing it.
You are not the only one =/
@@FinHammer A fellow 13:49er!
Dude I blasted this in my car yesterday and did not think the interludes messed with anything. Also you are right that its Black metal with thrash elements instead of black thrash but that's also what makes it so good and deadly serious. They are a black metal band first and foremost, I understand that and am totally ok with it while I do enjoy the thrashy guitar licks
Cool that these guys still going strong, will listen to the album later, maybe it will be my favorite black metal album of 2019 but i think it will still be Abbath
Abbath's album was so damn good.
The adoption analogy😂
Excited to buy it tomorrow fantastic Norwegian black metal hails amazing band could you review the new ragnarok album next month
Hold on, it's october there in Canada, too?
Chasm is a hard C sound like cool not a soft ch like chair. Kasm
Not in this song.
Saw cloak at the Taking Care Of Black Tuck release show they absolutely killed it
Blayne mentioned referring to the band's Wikipedia page. Why wouldn't you reference metal-archives, the only true source on metal music?! 🤷♂️
Cuz wikapedia has that graphic with colored lines showing all present and past members of bands
Metal-Archives is a very good site, but man, they are elitist as fuck
Epic album, great!
Hey, I really liked the interlude tracks!
Digging the Canadian MS13 look. Canadian drive bys would be the most polite violent crime.
LOL
I love it!!
Love cattle Decapitation
1349... Not just a great year or beer, but a great band. Yes they made a black ale beer. The only interludes you'll have drinking this black ale beer will be the sounds of your wiz hitting the toilet seat.
Whinging about the interlude tracks? Barely notice them listen to the album full.
Its a another solid release from them, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the fact they have expanded on that Thrash element that they used on MCoC.
Aahh, its just mmmmh - Blayne 2019

Album rules man ! And massive cauldron of chaos is one of the best albums ever !
It's October in Edmotnon. -17c and some snow dusting. Time to hide indoors.
"Black metal's our real son, we love him more!" XD
I love that 1349 somewhat reinvented themselves on every album. I didnt dig every one, but you cant say that they just re-record to keep touring. Dödskamp was such a good and fresh new track. still love th eir early stuff, but they really matured and thats a compliment when usually I use that as an insult for black metal bands.
Don't think I don't see that Iron Maiden picture disc boxset back there. Since my comment pointed it out, please send it to me.
Sounds like if you live in Canada you may have rimfrost.
The Scream 2 of BM albums? Haha! Scream 2 is a perfect follow up! ;)
New Exhumed review?
its not as good as Hellfire but honestly you can't beat perfection.
Suicidal Tendencies goes bush crafting.
yall should make these more than 10 mins... it'll give you more exposure and more ads
It's a good album, might be a very good album after a few more listens. Can't help but agree that the thrash elements should have been stronger though. Overall it feels a little too BM-by-the-numbers. More of the thrash influence could potentially have elevated it to something interestingly different. As it is I'm getting a mixture of Dark Funforall and Desaster.
Why funforall? Lol
@@Jakeltons A couple of other BM bands commented (years ago now, can't exactly remember where and I don't want to mention the bands in case I mis-remember them) that Dark Funeral took things a bit too seriously and therefore nicknamed them Dark Fun-for-all.
Cen Blackwell Oh okay lol. I don’t really see it but that’s still funny :p
@@Jakeltons Yeah, I get the impression it was a bit of an in joke between some BM bands that a few people picked up on. Still trying to remember where I read the quote. I think it was a concert review but can't remember where.
Demonoir was KILLER!
google translate (lol) Apart from the references to "tunnel of set" the album is fine, it's not like a sequel to DEMONOIR, it's more like an obvious direction of experimentation with thrash ... He didn't mention that 1349 released Doskamp before the album and the track Included in the CD is different in editing and sound. Missing more presenter information, nothing more. Anyway note 3 is fine, it is not the best but as a fan one can continue listening and continue with his opinion.
Still waiting for those best metal of 1975 results it’s been like 5 weeks
44 years by my count
Where is lock horns?
This made me laugh. Internally. :D
Still a good release...
They still don’t know what direction to go in since Massive Cauldron of Chaos
This album rules over Mayhem’s album
So far this feels like a big improvement over MCoC, IMHO, which I grew weary of pretty quickly. There was just something about the production/vocals and "sameness" that I think killed MCoC for me. I liked it a lot at first, but it just didn't give me much replay value.
I think this album has the right black metal / thrash balance for a band like 1349. They keep the black metal aura but infuse some other influences without letting them overtake their sound.
That said, the ambient tracks always feel out of place on 1349's albums, to me anyways. They just don't really build or go anywhere or contribute to the other songs, just not cohesive enough. Seems like cheap filler. But it is easily ignored/skipped.
Hellfire is my fav album
Totally agree with these review, those interludes are not pretty good
Always like it when Blayne reviews a Black Metal album!
1914, 1349, 1984, 2020
Sorry Blayne, maybe you are just not that into 1349. Massive Cauldron of Chaos is a fucking solid album and so is this one. Frost does an incredible job, he actually slowed down from previous albuns but still keep things interesting and keep us guessing with his creativity. 4 skulls out of 5
i think that the only bad side on the whole album is the drums. From the production(lower quality than the rest of the album in terms of production), to the playing . To me, it sounds like the guitars, vocals and bass NEEDED a more elaborate drums but frost either didnt think the same way, or couldnt provide them. it needed more creative and less repetitive patterns. and less simple parts. aside from that, its definitely their best album. everyone is on the same level, except, as mentioned, frost. its not about beating the shit out of your drums and its "OK" it about feeling what the sound needs and provide it. but i think many will say that its a matter of taste. i believe that generally it is, but in this case its clear to me that its not. what do ya'll think?
Just recently saw these guys live again. The show was great, but I agree with everything you said about the album. It's just kind of... there. Oh, well. Thanks for the review, Blayne!
Also, its Thrashened Black, not Blackened Thrash... and it fucking rules
The "Tunnel of Set" series of interludes I feel represents different planes or pathways. The songs between the tunnels is a journey...think of it like Jeff Wayne's - War of the Worlds and it will make more sense.
Yes they start the LP in Blackened Thrash, but they start morphing the sound in each pathway for a different vibe/feel. It is a story, a production a show.
The black metal roots are about the theatrics of it, however that is now taken for granted. The corpse paint is there for a reason, not a gimmick...treat this like theater and you will perhaps get a different perspective.
Cheers!
BTW if you thing it's cold you gotta be in Van or Tor 'cause you guys are total wuss's...come to the prairies in January and endure our cold when your nostrils freeze shut at minus stupid.
A very funny review even though you only gave them 3 out of 5!🤣😠
Kasm. Kasm!
Not donning metal merch? WHAT IS HAPPENING!!! Nah I'm kidding. My apartment is cold all the time this time of year as well.
I don't want 1349 to play real Blackened Thrash ever. Massive Cauldron of Chaos was already too close.
I'm not a blackened thrash kind of guy and prefer the more melodic/pagan and atmospheric side of black metal. I've always liked 1349 so I'll give this a listen.
same as well but you most liley won't be disappointed by this album. For me it's their best work since Hellfire
@@owlperformance2147 right on! thanks!
4 out of 5! 😠😠😠
Ummm...Scream 2 is widely regarded as one of the greatest horror sequels of the last few decades.
It works for his comparison. Its not bad it’s just not as good as the first one.
recommend checking out Lacuna Coil's latest.
That shirt is fuckin tight.
For some good black metal.
Negator - Vnitas Pvritas Existentia
But that's just like, my opinion man.
IMHO the music is no longer as good as the drumming , oldschool 1349 everything was top notch... this... well the drumming is still good... Give me Hellfire anyday
I don't even enjoy frosts drumming on this..there was a rawness and energy too his past playing..its not there anymore
No mortiferum?
BLOODY HELL DUDE, I swear your hair gets longer with every review. You putting growth hormone in that shit or what!?
It's Halloween and you guys use ghost face instead of Myers. Missed opportunities man, missed opportunities smh 🤦🏻♂️
Beast Slayer the movie Halloween wasn’t mentioned in this review,Scream was.
Rimfrost’s Expedition: Darkness is a better album to review.
NOOOO Coffin Rot???
2010teens? lol
1349 is done with... I tried to give this a chance being a fan of their older albums but the lack of ferocity as well as the flat production just doesn't do it for me. People don't really care for Demonoir that much, at least from what I've read and heard, but I think that was there last album with the older more chaotic sound. Massive Cauldron and this new album are just shells of a former band.
Your opinion of my opinion sucks, get lost...
Hell is real, the Devil exists and he lives and breaths in Norwegian metal.
Frost, listen.. Bud, you're too good of a black metal drummer. I know, I know.. Listen, pal, not saying that's a terrible thing, okay? You truly are a possessed fucker on the kit, but.. We really wanna do some blackened thrash, and for that? You need to be a bit sloppy and not so precise.
Blayne’s shirt of the day is a flannel
blash metal or maybe thrack metal 😎😀
Why such high expectations for 1349 you don’t like it don’t listen to it.
That mentality completely defeats the point of having people review things.
Striding the Chasm-KAsm kkkkkaasm not Cha cha chasm chasm
/ˈkazəm/
Mis a hit, here and there? Noop; Frost doesnt do that. Can hear you dont know your peers dude
mCoC was pretty trashy too
personally, I found the drums on this album annoyingly produced and played...stops me from enjoying what would otherwise be pretty good album...
Why in the hell are you pronouncing it chasm with a ch sound and not a k sound. Also this band hasn't had a solid release since Hellfire, everything since then hasn't been bad, just mediocre.
He's canadian
Scream 2 is arguably better than Scream.
“HAHAHAHASHESMAKeJIKEABOUTBLACKMETALHAHAHAHAHAHDUDETHISGUY!!!!!!!!”
Can you speak faster please
Was very interested in this album until Blayne called it the “Scream 2 of Black Metal albums” now I will stay far away 😂
2 skulls very disappointing record
Gray Flanel: Good; not Great
Where's the Babymetal review??
