Maybe because I'm from NC, and know exactly the way they talk and their mannerisms there, I thought Cold Mountain was an amazing film all around. But Jude Law was INCREDIBLE! Also, even when he's supposed to look terrible in that movie, he's still gorgeous. Nicole Kidman looked beautiful when she was supposed to look bad too. Jack White looked cute. Nobody else that I can remember looked quite as good, but I don't think they were supposed to. Every single person in that movie acted their hearts out. Even if they had one line.

I love that he's real voice is all soft, higher and with a british accent compared to that of Dickie Greenleaf which sounds deep and arogant and with an American accent. It's crazy how actors can embody another personnality down to the sound of their voice

Bloody hell! He is ENTIRELY different than the roles he plays. It's quite bizarre.
I just saw Wilde and he plays a similar character as Bosie - spoilt, unpredictable -- so I assumed he'd be a bit more energetic and cockish.

Actually, Jude Law has a bit of a reputation in real life as being a playboy so I wouldn't say this role was a huge stretch for him.

“I was watching some schoolchildren waiting for a school bus. Now, that happens all around the world. But then, they were stood under this incredible - this statue of two lovers in embrace in this cloth drooped over them - and you think, if that is what you’re seeing day in and day out then there’s got to be a kind of sensuality to your very existence and to your makeup, if you like.”
    - Jude Law, Exclusive Interview for “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999)
... In the shuffle of day-to-day life, I think these beautiful musings are lost on us. I'm so grateful to have come across this interview, as the quote above has renewed a spirit of perspective in me.

Amm no no I think if you happen to go abroad for work and be away from home for a good few months you almost demand that type of scenary. I know that as a sicilian, every time I come home from abroad, I could care less of people complaining, I just want go down to Corso and have a cafe at Bar Italia, read the newspaper and enjoy "il dolce far niente " in an exceptional scenary.

he undoubtedly played a convincing playboy. I haven't seen him in very much but felt he was perfect for the role. I read the part of Tom Ripley was supposed to go to Tom Cruise. I am basically thankful it went to Matt Damon - he played the bumbling nerd to perfection. I was rooting for Ripley from the start. You just saw this vulnerable side to him which seemed to forgive his actions. Do I think he was an intentional killer to start out with? Definitely not but he got in too deep. It must have been intoxicating to be fast-tracked into the rich set compared to his job as a toilet attendant with a decrepit and delapidated apartment...and that tired old courdroy jacket!!

I just realized I don't think I've seen anything else Jude Law has done that required him to put on an American accent except this one and Cold Mountain. He's regularly speaking his native accent in almost everything he's done, even in the films where he's in America.

I love how he says he had to gain weight to play an American "because they play much more physical sports at school." Ha ha .... very diplomatic answer. Not all Americans play sports. I think it's because Americans are a bit more obese than other countries. But he can't say that because then American audiences might not be so find of this Brit anymore.

Very good movie and being a jazz sax man for 35 years I guess I would say that. No I clever film and I believe it got the culture thing right for the times. Of course anybody that knows modern jazz recognises the British altoist and trumpet player playing outside.
