As the incumbent he has federal dollars to undermine conservative complaints. He is doing far less than Little PP proposed in his viral rant about housing in Canada. He said he would reward municipalities that met quotas and punish those that don't. Trudeau is only saying that if you want to follow their guidelines, they have money to spend. Beyond that is between the premiers and their electorate.

@rojahrojah that's not what happened at all, they did want the help. Justin went around the MP's and went straight to the municipalities in Edmonton and Calgary where they have NDP leaders and to avoid conservative premiere Danielle Smith, this is the reason he is saying this. You are incorrect.

@@rojahrojah Provinces control housing availability. The Federal Government controls newcomers to Canada that buy those houses, and that's where they've FAILED miserably. i.e. 1.2 million newcomers to Canada last year.
It is simply not possible to separate housing, heathcare, and environmental crises from this Federal government's insistence on massive immigration numbers.
It just cannot be done by any rational person.
To be clear, this is not about xenophobic or anti-immigrant sentiment. It is a failure of government policy.

Even if these houses get built, they will still remain millions of dollars because landlords keep buying them up to rent for profit and Trudeau allows over half a million immigrants and more international students in each year. Housing costs will not go down when these factors are not deat with.
You are assuming landlords have infinite money... Landlords that did something like this went bust recently (200mil down the hill etc.) - no smart person is overextending nowadays (overleverage). And everyone needs to pay market price, so I do not see the point that you are trying to make. Want to buy a house go buy one. It is expensive - well it is so for everyone.
@@saypman You are thinking about the small landlords. oh_k8 is talking the ones that are running as a corp / LLC company. Ones that can get bank credit and keep buying up properties. I have seen plenty of college landlords owning 10+ homes as a corporation. A real business, and they do snatch all houses that go on the market.

I don't see how the increase of $0.03/L in carbon pricing that happened on Apr 1st, 2024 increased prices by 3 times. I hope you're equally mad at Danielle Smith adding $0.13/L of tax onto gas on Apr 1st, 2024 as well. In fact, all the statistics say otherwise, that was the pandemic, supply chain issues, and the war in Ukraine that Russia started that increased prices.

The only way to solve this is to remove all taxes on construction materials specifically for new appartment complexes. Zero tax on wood, plywood, doors, windows, roofing, plumbing/pipes/electrical, insulation,bathroom sinks/showers/bathtubs. For appartments only. Inspectors and security will ensure materials are not funnelled to residential/detached homes etc. This measure would result affordable rents for the population.
Or...we could just stop mass immigration. Problem solved.
The Federal Government needs to consult the Provincial Government with the ways that the Federal Government would like to help the Provinces. Not just walk into a Province and take over. The Feds need to be partners not Dictators!
The federal government generally doesn't have any binding way to ensure the provinces actually uses the money to fund housing. Jean Charest famously used money to build hospitals for a pre-election tax break - I have a hard time believing Smith or Scott Moe wouldn't use the money for something else just to spite Trudeau.
Then the province should let the municipality do what they want to do like Ford did. And not stand in the way of housing related funding.

Well, that was pretty incoherent. To start with, Trudeau has no money, he was already starting with a deficit and is just borrowing more money. Alberta is in a better situation in terms of borrowing money for housing than Trudeau is, and at lower rates. Moreover, Alberta will want to stay out of paying off housing loans that other provinces like Quebec run up under Trudeau. You won't get a green home under Trudeau, lad. You don't understand that the housing deficit that Trudeau created through out of control immigration is far, far larger than Trudeau can fix. A few billions here and there won't cover a 2trillion housing and infrastructure deficit, lad. Come back when you do understand.
