Chadwick model railways has had exactly the same problem. However, now you have made alterations to your model the shop will not accept it back for exchange or refund. Have a word with Chadwick, he's in the same boat, de railing and bits falling off

6 axler; all 6 axles geared? If so, friction in curve pushing 1st of 3rd axle out?
I have that problem with NA Athearn blue box 6 axlers, where Kato's, Bowser's, Bachmann's go through them with no problems.
What i did was drilled middle bearing in the truckframe to 1/8 of an inch, giving the ( geared ) middle wheel some play, as in upwards.
    Seemed to help sofar.

Hi, I feel your pain! I had to wait about the same length of time for mine too, D6702. I have to admit that nothing fell off mine, I believe the headcode boxes are supposed to come off so you can change the headcode to one that suites your loco, but they aren't supposed to fall off. I have had a sandpipe catch one point, not to the extent it derailed the loco like yours. I think once one catches something going in one direction it gets bent down and then is worse when you go in the opposite direction. I think you did the right thing to trim the sandpipes back a bit. Lets face it, once on the track you can hardly see the sandpipes anyway. Both loco and EMU look super additions to your layout.............All the best Dave.

Totally relate to your pain with the 37! I had the same woes with the sandpipes snagging on things. I have third rail on most of the layout and the pipes were snagging on it, as well as bits of pointwork etc. Didn't have any derailments, but I got that horrid clicking noise as it was going round. I must admit in the end I ended up trimming them down, as they're hardly visible anyway and would probably end up being snapped off and possibly causing more damage. It raises an interesting point about how much detail is 'too much' for working models. If people want these to put in a display case and look at like a museum piece then I can understand the obsession with details, but for models that are running over pointwork and being handled regularly, I think some of these tiny detail parts are just more trouble than they're worth, and just add to the cost!

    • @iowarails
      @iowarails 11 місяців тому

I'm starting to think that you can have too much detail if you are running your models. I am just as happy running my Mainline Mk1s from 1977 as I am running modern Bachmann coaches.

Ouch what a bag of problems Accurrascale have given you. I would reject it saying it was substantially defective, multiple parts falling off is a joke and get my money back. Watch the circa 2 week rejection limit for a full refund, don’t accept a credit. Why should you take the risk of gluing it back in, it would be difficult to enforce your consumer return rights if you got glue finger prints on the loco! A little trimming of the defective sand pipes could be argued you were covering for a quick remedy on one of their model’s defects and to get it back to specification! Bachmann I have found are brilliant, the only recurring weakness they have is their glazing glue deteriorates with age and the glazing occasionally falls out several plus years since manufacture. I for one will be avoiding Accurascale until they get their act together. Hope helps, nice layout. All the best Stephen

Hi, great video on an issue about too much detailing, my Accurascale class 97’s sand pipes are way too long, where as my class 37 Europhoenix is fine, great locos in general for the money but they are very delicate where as the Bachmann class 37’s very robust in my opinion, thanks for sharing.

When adding the third rail, there are some important things to remember. 1) the third rail is always on the opposite side to the platform in stations and 2) there is always (except in very special circumstances, usually in the throats of terminal stations) a break in the third rail at the tie bar end of points. This is to allow the collector shoes on the 'frog' side of a converging train to ride up smoothely onto the conductor rail.

I totally agree, most modellers put it right themselves because they can or they don’t want to fuss about certain issues, I had issues with a Accurascale item a few months back, they sorted it for me as soon as they could with no fuss, it’s down to quality control which cost money to implement so companies rely on the fact training given to workers is of an acceptable standard, unfortunately some workers don’t care and can’t be bothered to flag an issue in the assembly process, this will end up with the customer because there is no quality control! Checking 1 out of 10 fully built items is very bad, it’s cost and corner cutting at its best, Hornby are the masters of this in my opinion.

@@Mossendrailway00 Hi, that is your choice, different workers assemble certain parts on different shifts, not all workers are the same, if every Accurascale loco had the same problem then it's a factory issue, to be fair some customers have never had an issue with any Accurascale products whilst some have had enough and won't buy anymore of their products so it's the luck of the draw, i've had minor issues with 2 products out of 14 over the years and they have happened this year with 1 x class 97 loco and 1 x FNA nuclear flask wagon, all sorted now without any complications.

Yes, if you check the back - to - backs with a calliper, my guess the measurement will be very close to what is the 00 standard of 14.5mm, Accurascale love that. Whereas the Backmann (and mostly the rest of R2R) probably comes in at 14.2mm or some such. Not a lot of difference but the tighter the B2B the less the side-play on each axle and the less latitude you have in running over medium radius points. Then all you need is some excess detail snagging at the wheels and of you come!

    • @Mossendrailway00

No other locos derail. Then bought DRS enhanced livery dcc sound fitted to run on dc, my Bachmann sound fitted locos run and sound fine on my dc, but again derailing issues from Accurascale. The worst thing though is the sound fitted loco moves about 30cms and slows to a stop constantly. I dont know if its faulty or its because im running it on dc, but the Bachmann locos run perfectly.

I have D6704 and am one of the lucky ones, at least so far! It is a lovely model but I often wonder about the 'super-detailed' tag on a lot of modern models in general. On the whole, 'super-detailed' models attract a premium price and one wonders if those tiny extra details are actually worth it since they are prone to simply falling off in spite of careful handling. Who else hesitates when they remove a new model from the packaging? As for most of the separate detail packs that come with many models, for me, forget it. They are often simply too small to even handle. There has to be a cost element to all this fine detail so is it really worth it? Possibly controversially, I believe there is a case for something like the Hornby Railroad range. Accurascale are unique in that they are producing 'super-detailed' models at great prices, notwithstanding various quality control issues. Hopefully they will learn from this. In terms of value alone, other manufacturers should take note.

Had the same issues with my 37. I solved it....by sending it back and getting a refund. I bought a bachmann 37 instead. You shouldn't have to glue, cut off, or modify a new model.

As others have mentioned, perhaps you should check the back-to-back measurements of the wheels - out of gauge wheels don't like points.

My 37 had one wheelset's back-to-back nearly 1mm too wide. I finished adjusting it about an hour ago. Managed to have one small part fall off and another break. I think they will be easy fixes, but you shouldn't have to do that on a new loco. Aside from that, I think it is a great model.

Just use some wood glue to keep the code box in place. Then it can be taken back out again. With the derailing, are all wheels in gauge?

    • @Mossendrailway00

There are no inclines, it is a perfectly flat layout and they are at least second radius and above. All the best James thanks.

Don't understand why you didn't send it back, rather then compromise the looks.
Every maker has the odd duff model and if you ask, you'll naturally get a bias towards others with this problem, so you're not really doing anything other than confirming an issue.
Sounds like it was damaged in the box to me.

@@Mossendrailway00 There are consumer rights for a reason. Is you choose not to make use of them just get on with it. You have a problem, the solution is staring you in the face, return it. Instead you modify the model and deny the company the ability to put it right 🤷🏻‍♂️
