Fascinating. The King Of Instruments is not only complex to play, but complex to tune correctly. I stand in awe of this magnificent instrument/ machine!
As an organist who is also interested in organ building, I enjoyed this series of videos on making principal pipes. I look forward to seeing videos on making other types of organ pipes as well.
you all prolly dont care at all but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost my password. I appreciate any tricks you can offer me
@Caiden Timothy i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im in the hacking process atm. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
You demonstrated that wind pressure is also very important related to fundamental tone vs. overtone! As anyone who has had any experience playing wind instruments, such as myself, know as well as weather, particularly temperature changes, affect how to tune your instrument to sound the best would know!
@robertgift Studies have been done to this regard in recent years. Especially as the EU was considering banning lead entirely. Fortunately no correlation between organ building practices and lead poisoning have ever been found
What is it called when the pipe is out of phase with itself? and why does that happen - is there really two columns of air circulating? This has happened several times and usually with principals/mixtures.?
Dude, here is where being a "real cutup" is not a bad thing! It has to be done just right in order to get the sound that you want, and be fine tuned as well! Of course, you'll probably have to make a tuning slide for those flue pipes, but with the ones with a reed inside, there will be a wire installed to tune the read precisely to the correct pitch!
How do you make allowances in voicing for different styles, as in ... a more Baroque sound, a contemporary sound, a French Romantic sound, or do you pretty much only voice in one style?
P.E. Gottrocks There is only ONE musical standard that EVERYONE attempts to replicate with their instruments: 1980's heavy metal. For thousands of years, bell makers toiled to create the perfect sound to accent heavy metal songs. It wasn't until 1980 that the perfect bells were finally created and used in songs like Hell's Bells, For Whom The Bell Tolls.
+Jarett Lowe How about just buying the copper or zinc metal. The problem is that zinc today is too pure. Organ builders still use lead/tin alloy - even pure lead (Which is also to pure). Use the common lead for pipes from 4' up and copper or zink for the pipes lower (Longer) than 4'. Of course, the longer the pipe the thicker the metal has to be. You can make languids by laminating lead onto a copper disk. Then bevel the front uppt surface back about 308 from vertical.

Voicing an organ pipe. Is there anything in this world more difficult, more....intimidating? This man is a true artist/craftsman.
I will definitely use this video as guide to making my own! Thank you for sharing this priceless knowledge! 👍

Very impressive. Thank you for sharing with us. Now I can see why an organ can be so expensive.

It takes tonal knowledge and knowing how to voice it.
