We have tried a lot of peanut butter bars in our day, and these Lunch Lady Peanut Butter Bars are the best we’ve ever tried!
We grew up coming home from school to these amazing peanut butter bars waiting for us!
Our favorite treat growing up was the peanut butter bars that the lunch ladies served in our elementary school.
We would bring an extra 50 cents to school so we could buy one of these delicious peanut butter bars whenever we could.
We originally shared this recipe on our blog in 2011, and it has since grown to be the most popular dessert recipe and for good reason.
These Lunch Lady Peanut Butter Bars are so easy to make, but be warned. Once you have one, you’ll have to have another. And another. And possibly half a pan.
✅ No judgements here. Put on those stretch pants and treat yo’ self!

If you break your eggs into the measuring cup that your going to put your peanut butter in to measure, it works with shortening as well. Just swish it around and pour into your bowl, then the peanut butter will slip right out.
Thank you!!!!
Awesome idea!!
These are amazing!!!!!!! My fam loved them so much. Thank you for another amazing recipie!!

Omg chocolate and peanut butter, mmmmmm. Thanks for the recipe ❤️
Nothing better than peanut butter and chocolate combo!
OMG! My mouth was watering & my tastebuds wear screaming when you took that bite. Yum! Thanks for sharing
You are welcome! Now you need to make a batch! You'll love them.
I'm quite a bit older than you and I never had those peanut butter bars in school but what we did have was haystacks. They were so popular that kids would trade other stuff from their lunch tray to get somebody else's haystack. These sure do look delicious though!
I need pb recipe for church coffee hour and bake sales. Everyone's asking for pb at our fairs. Thank you!💜
Mouth Watering....yum!
Thank you 😋
I copied the recipe from your website and now have it included in my Whisk App. Thanks so much for posting!

This looks so delicious!
HI guys!!! Thanks for watching!! You've had a great weekend. The sisters loved watching you!!
Looks delicious and nutritious, definitely a wonderful memorable treat!
So good!
Awesome! Very similar to our lunch lady except we had chocolate chips in the dough. Thanks for sharing.
That sounds amazing! Thanks for stopping by!
These look fantastic, I also have made lunch lady pb bars from UA-cam channel "whippoorwill holler". Miss Lori IS a school lunch lady 😊
Exactly what I was thinking, The real lunch lady💜
What is the best way to store these after baking? On the counter or in the fridge? I got all of the ingredients and am so excited to try making them!
This is very similar to our Road Runner Bars. We have little road runner birds running on the highways, and thats our mascot at the high school. We got these in grade school, junior high, and high school, and when i worked at the hospital, they made them too, I got it from a cook in the kitchen at the hospital before i quit. Meep beep!
My lunch ladies made the best PB cookies. They had to make 3X's the amount needed because we'd all buy extras to put in our pockets to eat all afternoon.
These bars look delish. Must make them for the hubby. Thanks for sharing.
The good old days!! I love it! You are so welcome! Took a little trip down memory lane for all of us!
I haven't made these in a while because they are so ADDICTING !!! LOVE LOVE LOVE ME SOME PEANUT BUTTER BARRRRRS😉
SO GOOD!
I was in elementary school in the 60s. They had a topping that was more like a chocolate ganache. They were so good.
Yum!! That sounds so good!
Hi, I am drooling! I just love peanut butter and chocolate together. My weaknesses when I go into a store and the candy is by the register and the peanut butter cups are calling my name! LOL Thanks for sharing this with us and until next time… Hugs, Dolores ❤️
Hi Dolores! You would fit right into our family! I think our last name should be Reese's! You'll love these peanut butter bars!
" just give me a minute" understandable, so funny😂
Do you have a printable version of this recipe? I've made them twice already for this holiday season for parties and already a huge favorite with everyone. :)
Wow,thx.
I can't wait to try this. And I have everything I need except for the cocoa powder.
I know EXACTLY what you’re talking about! My siblings and I talk about these with great fondness and I just sent them all the link!!
Thanks Angie!! They are a childhood favorite!
Here in New Mexico they are called “Gold Bars.” They are made with peanut butter, rice crispy cereal, powdered sugar, and chocolate. And omg, these were magic when I was a kid!!
Do you have the recipe? Fellow New Mexican lol
@@Michelle-by9fp maybe gold bars recipe will come up on Pinterest? I am going to see. That combination sounds yummy!
Would you substitute the Rice Krispies instead of the oats then?
Kind of similar to this, we used to have no-bake bars at school with oats mixed in a thick chocolatey concoction. I have tried a few different recipes but can't find one similar enough to please me. If you have a recipe for those, I'd love to see a video on them!
We have a post for No bake cookies. They have cocoa, peanut butter and oats. A family favorite, also called Gorilla poop. Here is the link - www.sixsistersstuff.com/recipe/easy-no-bake-cookies-aka-gorilla-poops/
Our lunch ladies back in the late 1960's and 1970's made the BEST peanut butter cake. OH MY GOSH! I wish you could find that as well. lol
That would be soo good!
Yummy 😋
It was!
Love anything with peanut butter, gotta try this 😉🥰
Yes me too..
@@DivinevirgoFeminine I’m a peanut butter freak 😉🤣🤣
@@dottiemcclung1714 peanut butter makes every better 😋
@@DivinevirgoFeminine yes indeed 😉
We couldn't agree more!!
Oh yumm!! I’m going to have to try this one! Looks like one I’d want to save for when having guests over...a whole pan just for our family sounds dangerous 😆
They are perfect for parties and bbq's because it makes a big pan!
OMG ..... Deeeelish. How do you stay so slim and lovely looking skin having all that sugar ? I admire those that can enjoy these, lovely to watch you baking these. 🎈
We share a lot of our recipes! We have a small bar and then share the rest! If these delicious bars stick around too long, we could easily polish off the pan!
Can you use natural peanut butter in this recipe? It looks delicious.
Yes you can!
Oh my goodness, I have been trying to find this recipe for years! Thank you very much for sharing. The base is exactly the same as what our lunch ladies used, but they topped ours with peanut butter frosting and then little chocolate chips. Thank you again for sharing 🤗❤️🤗
That is the best! I love them so much! Reminds me of childhood! Only the best treat during school!
Haha... yes I have all of these ingredients 😁😁
I found a recipe online from the San Diego school district to make the peanut butter bars they had in their cafeterias. I just bought the ingredients to make them.
Sounds great!
Is there a substitute for oats? I have a reaction to those, but want to make this recipe!
I GOT ME A INSTANT POT. AND NOW I HAVE TO SAVE UP TO GET YOUR BOOKS. LOVE TO WATCH YOUR SHOW. O BUY THE WAY HAPPY MOTHERS DAY TO YOU.
Thanks so much Carolyn! So glad you have your Instant Pot. More recipes coming!
Does it matter whether you use Old Fashion Oats or 3-Minute Oats?
We've used both and they both work great!
We had 'haystacks' which were peanut butter no bakes pressed into a pan like yours and cut into bars for $0.50
They are the best!
First time that I heard that the frosting is not melted chocolate with peanut butter. Need to try this ASAP ♥️
It's so good!
Looks wonderful!! Question could I use graham crackers instead of oats
Try it! Let us know how it works ☺️☺️
@@bearclawflowers thanks I will let you know
You could try! It would have a different consistency for sure! Let me know if you ever ended up trying that out! I am sure it would be good!
I'm making these for my sister's birthday party tomorrow! I knew I needed a special event as an excuse, otherwise I'd be eating them all myself! Yea or nay to sprinkling chopped peanuts on top of the frosting? What do you think? I'm on the fence. Can't wait to try these!!!
That is going to make the birthday even better! I say go for the peanuts! What a good idea!
Oh yes that looks delicious 😋 🤤
Thank you 😋
Hey Kristin, question for you as I have never had these before at my school cafeteria back in the early 90s. Can these guys be made with gluten-free flour/oats?
Yes you can totally try that! Let us know how it went for you!
I can just taste those lunch lady bars like I was in school yesterday! Fantastic Thanks for mastering this recipe for all of us! They were sooooo delicious!
I grew up in Utah and these were amazing!!
All your childhood memories come flooding back with these yummy peanut butter bars!
Can you make tiger butter? Please?
Our peanut butter bars had a layer of chocolate on top, then peanutbutter frosting.
That works too!
Omigosh, where'd you get that egg-cracking plate?? I need that in my life!!!
You get fewer shell bits if you crack against a flat surface like the counter
@@AlanMillerFencepost I'd always heard a sharp angle is the way to go.
It is called a Crack ' Em. I got one at Amazon. Works as a spoon rest as well. Works perfectly for cracking eggs cleanly especially when you have to separate them.
It's called a Crack'Em from Amazon. Here is the link - amzn.to/3nJ0uLm
@@gigivarnum cracking on a sharp edge like a bowl, pan edge, etc actually makes it more likely to get shell fragments in the egg. Flat surface leaves the membrane intact until you separate it to get the egg out. Plenty of references including American Egg Board.
5 STARS
Just a tip ( I have not tried yet) but have been seeing it More and more
If you put your cocoa in a little warmed liquid before adding....it brings out the chocolate flavor more
Thanks! Good to know.
I make this using a tub of duncan hines whipped dark chocolate frosting...easy to spread and delicious 😋
Thanks for the great tip and shortcut!
I would be curious to know the weight of the flour you use since scooped flour varies quite a bit, especially from person to person.
The link to the recipe is in the description box.
Yes, it is. I had already looked there. But thank you anyways. Unfortunately for me it does not offer the weight of the flour. Scoop measure flour can vary from person to person. It is no big deal, I'll figure it out for myself. Just curious if it was already available by weight.
@@KatMum just use regular all purpose flour. These ladies who do these videos are from Utah and so am I. I'm quite familiar with these peanut butter bars. They're the best. Don't worry about the weight of the flour. Slight variations don't affect the outcome.
We usually don't weigh our flour for this recipe and it always works great. Just measure with the measuring cup.
Love your recipe...but for the chocolate topping I always just melt milk chocolate chips on top..cut out all that confection sugar 😁😁😁
That would work too! We are huge frosting lovers!
Can you freeze these bars
Ours was different, I'm 61, so in was in the mid to late 90s.
We called ours brownies. No oatmeal inside. Had peanut butter frosting on top. Chopped peanuts optional. Yum. Was able to get the recipe from our lunch lady before she passed away. They were brownie textured. Will give recipe to anyone who wants it?
Sounds delicious! I would actually love the recipe.
Me too! 🤤
Yes please
@@brendahill9675 I'll try to post here, or if you receive this message let me know, I can go thru this way???
@@callierandall8522 yes this is perfect
Our lunch lady made dissolve in your mouth Butter Cookies.
Those are seriously the best!
To measure peanut butter in a measure cup, first spray the cup with cooking spray and then gently add peanut butter with a knife. When measure cup is full, dump into recipe. It will just slide out. Enjoy 😉
Thanks for the helpful tip!
For measuring things like peanut butter, use a scale or the push through plunger style measuring cups
All butter recipe
Quick cook oats or old fashioned rolled oats?
We have used both and they both work great! We usually use quick.
@@SixSistersStuff Thank you
Coming from a professional baker I give you an 90
You must have attended a small school because you said you had A lunch lady. I worked in the school cafeteria back in the 80s and we had over 800 kids to feed. We had 5 "lunch ladies" and one ugly lunch dude (me). lol
Wow ....sugar coma coming. But looks awesome!!!
These are great for parties or summer barbecues. They feed a crowd!
Sorry to be a pain but how much is cups in grams or ounces for us brits 😂😃😃🙌🏻🙋🏼♀️
1 cup = 128 grams
Or
1 cup = 8 oz
@@lisapully9274many thanks 🙏
@@cookingwell3753 you're so very welcome! 😁 Anytime.
RECIPE
What kind of oats?? Quick oats? That’s important to share…
Old fashioned
I need gluten free
You should try a pnut butter that is w/o sugar and any other unnecessary ingredients, unless Jiffy is your sponsor.
We love it this way!
This video would be perfect if it was just a pic of the recipe.
Where is the fun in that?
I better not see Nutella in this video...lol.
No Nutella!!
Hey, we’re fans from Germany and we really love your recipes. Unfortunately we’re not familiar with units like „cup“ or „half a cup“ ☺️, which is why we’re not able to copy most of your recipes and ideas. Would it be possible for you to add e.g. a little text on screen or in the description in regards of the units? Like what does it mean in gram or so?
Best regards from Germany!
Most schools don't have peanut anything for lunch. Some schools are peanut free period which isn't fair to low income people. I don't remember lunch in elem. school. All the lunch ladies are foreign here are don't really talk to the kids. The person who "watches" them at lunch doesn't really do that either....schools frustrate me
These sister's never reply can someone tell me if any of the other sister's do videos? I just see this one and her brunette sister i thought there were 6
Hi! Kristen here! Yes, there are 6 of us. I run the UA-cam channel because we all live far away from each other! But you can see all of us on @sixsistersstuff Instagram. We each take a day to post something every week
@@SixSistersStuff ok great ill check it out thanks!! I love your freezer bag meals!
