    How beautiful to see the horse free to move his head naturally. It only ads to the grace & elegance of the movements. How has it come to be that this grace & beauty (freedom) has been lost in modern dressage?
    I hope this video will influence many riders to think about this. Bravo!

    Is the horse calm, keen, attentive and confident? Is the horse supple, loose and flexible? Yes. Is the horse able to perform in front of a huge audience without having to be framed into submission? Yes. Lovely example of harmonious development of a horse by an empathic, feeling rider. And how lovely to see a horse allowed to use his neck and head as part of his overall balance. Refreshing really.

    Nice to see the horse barely being spurred and not spurred every stride like today.......

    Beautiful to watch, compared to today's mechenical, Competition dressage. Give me TRUE Classical Dressage like this, any day.

    my thoughts exactly. The headset (or rather lack thereof) looks so nice and natural for the horse - is was still able to perform all of his movements with grace. I wish I could learn to train dressage like that, there isn't anyone who teaches it like this anymore!

    Amazing historical video The horses head collection and freedom with the horse still on the bit and collected but not restricted at all Modern dressage has something to learn from this elegance Only one critic, the accompanying text scrolls too quickly with hardly time to read it

    That was so amazing, I can't believe that in 1932 they were so advanced in their training! I love the music on this video to, and its so good that someone is willing to post a video like this to thank the people in the past who built the foundation for riding.

    Try watching Reiner Klimke's 1984 Olympic ride! Then, if you can find a good quality video of it, watch his victory lap after the medal ceremony. Klimke rides one-tempi changes (changing canter leads every stride) one-handed! That is the true art of dressage!

    @brokefordstud - excellent comments - 79 gold bats to you ;-)
    @fleur4198 - if a horse was free to choose, he might choose to avoid this sort of work, he might choose to run free from humans and be wild, wormy, unrugged in winter, dying of diseases that vet care can prevent and fix, starving in droughts, drowning in floods, etc. I don't know. Maybe he'd choose to be cared for and ridden. (lol - if I could choose I'd choose to not do housework, to not go to work and to do whatever I wanted)

    But that is our fault for not making dressage more advanced today, not theirs. They were doing the best they knew how and what is our excuse today? We know better and yet ride wrong anyway, atleast they were trying their best and cared how it effected the horse.

    Even when my older horse was on dressage-only duty he still ran up to me from the field everyday. I watch my new mare use her dressage movements in the field more than when I first got her. I've watched her lift her neck and carry herself on a near-perfect walk pirouette when playing with the other mares. And as an eventer, my horses never look happier under saddle then when I let them breeze (gallop full-out). You might want to spend some time around real horses before making such conjectures.

    they are NOT teaching the riders today to understand what your saying....or perhaps a better WAY to say what I am conveying is, the trainers, judges and competitive riders have NO idea about HOW or even conscious about what you so eloquently put forth.....it will soon be very recognized due to technology and decoding the old masters understanding

    Fleur...have you ever even seen a horse in the flesh? Or are you just a PETA armchair ranter? My horse is ridden barefoot but with a mild mullen mouth bit because he hates bitless bridles of any kind (communication too confusing). Other horses I know love going bitless but they cannot go barefoot even when not ridden because their hooves don't suit the terrain/ground they run on. Mine will happily perform dressage moves by himself.

    Back then there were better horseman. Today's trainers and riders AND judges, are terrible . The riders and all over the horse , slamming in the saddle like they're having sex, leaning back like they're trying to stop an ox on a rope, with arms, feet and hands flying around .

    Poor horse. I feel sorry for it being ridden in such a hollow frame.
    By promoting riding in such a manner Horses For Life only adds to the horrific suffering of horses everywhere.
    Thank goodness Scientific research has enabled us to ride and train Dressage in a more horse friendly manner nowadays.

      Rubbish the horse looks happy and natural horses are not meant to go around with their heads in their chests . Lovely to see a rider with still hands not jerking up and down aka modern riders ..
