That red car is a covered mobility scooter. You get them from the government if you meet certain criteria. I ride an uncovered one because with mine you can get into public transport and shops. I got it because I am an amputee.

6:00 the sign says 15 km/h (9 miles/hour). That zone is a heavy packed residential area, and therefore the speed for cars is reduced to walking speed almost.

The minicars were intended for the elderly and people with disabilities. Nowadays - especially in Amsterdam - they are used by young people. I am not sure why, but I presume it is more convenient than a car in a big city, both for parking and costs and contrary to a bike, it is more comfortable in bad weather and you can transport more stuff.

You are allowed to drive them at 16, while you need to be 18 for a regular car.

Spoiled and lazy kids just like the 12 yr olds with an electric bike that goes 45 km/h meanwhile if you have a snorfiets (25km/h max speed moped) for which you need a moped drivers license you have to wear a helmet but not the phat bikes (which are mostly driven bij 12 to 16 year olds) i think its pretty dumb letting those young people drive them they hardly know/follow the rules and they go 45 km/u by just turning the throttle ...but hey could just be me

As residents of the USA, you know that Americans and their cars come before everything else, even the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, playing children and so on, the car is sacred because otherwise they have to walk, and that is too much to ask 😂

Where my daughter lives in the UK, the local council sharpened all the side road junctions to force cars to slow down when turning into them.

Those little cars basically are no cars but covered mopeds. The Red one could be provided to you when you're invalid. The Black one you purchase yourself when you do not feel like biking in rain, snow and so. You will find out why we have covered mopeds here once you are here. I will give you a hint: Weather. Weather is a thing here in the North Western part of Europe. Nothing to be worried about, but most certainly something to do not underestimate.

The Canta is treated the same as a bicycle. A Biro is treated as a normal car in the Netherlands. The red one was a Canta. The black one a Biro.

As a 68 yr old I NEVER bought into the whole idea that I MUST HAVE A CAR/VEHICLE, instead I opted to Cycle or Walk everywhere local. If I wanted to go to the next city twenty miles away I have the option of Cycling $0 in cost but it may 1 hr cycle ride or, Train or Bus for approx $10 to $15 travel time 20 or 30 minutes. This saves me the cost of a vehicle (apporx $35000 for a small vehicle), fuel for that vehicle and as I live in the UK the Road Tax(approx $300 per year) and Insurance (approx $250 per year) BEFORE I EVEN MOVE THE VEHICLE and I would have to pay Road Tax and Insurance on the Vehicle EVERY YEAR and that is before I even move the vehicle. Yes I will admit it may be cheaper in the USA for fuel, but it is not in the UK, average Gas price in the UK per UK gallon. 1UK £ = 1.00 or $128.

That conversation rate is probably a mistake 😂 I know your cost of living is high but £1.00 versus $128 is slightly out of tune...

In the netherlands you pay tax for the weight of your car, since those butt ugly cars dont weigh much you barely pay anything and in a lot of cases they are classified as 4 wheeled scooters. So you dont even need a drivers licence only a scooter license wich is much cheaper to get.

What also helps but im not sure if its like this in america too is no matter what the pedestrian or a cyclist does if an accident happens with a cyclist/pedestrian and a car...the car driver is 99.99% of the time considered the guilty one and your insurance goes up so you think twice about how you drive around cyclists and pedestrians

Those small cars are for disabled people. Max. speed is 28 mph, they can be driven by not disabled people too. You need a scooter license (cheaper and easier) and you can drive from 16 instead of 18. Also there is a lot less parking hassle/cost, as you can park them as a scooter (if the police are lenient). They are not cheap. They cost almost the same as a normal small car.

Your country is build for cars rather than the healthier & environmental friendly biking, pedestrian or public transportation forward way. Part of capitalistic America benefitting your car industry, besides that it would also require billions of $ investments into new infrastructure. So you won't be getting this any time soon, except for a few places that might actually chooses to prioritize this for it's city & it's citizens.

Americans will never get it as long as the government keeps spending 2 trillion more than they receive in taxes, they pay more in interest each years as they spend on the military and America spends a lot on military.

What do you need sidewalks for? You don't have time to walk on them

    • @fiskurtjorn7530
      @fiskurtjorn7530 28 днів тому +3

Walking to the left leaving my house it is a nine-minute walk to the shops. Taking the car I first walk to the right to my parked car for almost a minute. Then follow the one-way road for about two minutes, and enter a busy road ( _usually a minute due to a red light_ ). Take the roundabout, and pass my house one minute later. Enter the parking lot two minutes later. Find a free spot, in two minutes. Go to the parking meter, enter my licence number and the Time I want to park and pay the fee. This takes three minutes. Walk one minute to the shops. At the very least this takes me twelve minutes.
I need sidewalks because I don't have time to drive.

  • @perjohansen3024

The reason you do not have decent sidewalks or bicyclelanes in USA is, it cost money, simple as that, the money it will cost will not go into the extremely rich peoples pockets and that is not good, the rich need to have their huge share of everything, and it will keep being that way until the people realize that things do not have to be that way, but that will never happen in USA you are all raised to be wilfully ignorant sad to say, check out the video why amarica treats their people so badly and you will see

  • @dannydejongh9408

What the video doesn’t show…and you never hear anything about on just bikes channel is this.
At this moment bikes in the Netherlands…and specially Amsterdam, Rotterdam and such cities are causing lots of troubles. Electric bikes go so fast and the drive like idiots.
On bike lanes, walking paths..and even the car roads.
    Its Wild West.
    The speeds?
Cars in cities drive between 30 and 50km per hour average. Bikes like this do 30 to 60 km per hour.
Doctors are sounding the alarm bells and ask for minimum age for electric bikes.
Since the 70’s there hasn’t been so much bike deaths and accidents in the Netherlands.

@@hiljepeters feitjes…laatste cijfers zijn nog erger
      Letsel Informatie Systeem (LIS)

Ahem. Unless an e-bike or a fatbike has been illegally altered, they go 25 kph, maybe thirty depending on how fast the rider pedals -- not 60.
