One of the questions at the NEET (UG) Examination 2024 read as follows:
“Given below are two statements:
Statement I: Atoms are electrically neutral as they contain
equal number of positive and negative charges.
Statement II: Atoms of each element are stable and emit their
characteristic spectrum.
In the light of the above statements, choose the most
appropriate answer from the options given below:
(1) Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct.
(2) Both Statement I and Statement II are correct.
(3) Both Statement I and Statement II are incorrect.
(4) Statement I is correct but Statement II is incorrect.”
2 As indicated above, four options were indicated in the question as framed, of which, students had to select one option as their answer.
3 In order to resolve the issue as regards the correct answer to the above
question, we are of the considered view that an expert opinion should be
sought from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
4 We request the Director at IIT Delhi to constitute a team of three experts of the subject concerned. The expert team constituted by the Director is
requested to formulate its opinion on the correct option for the above
Page 14 of 15 WPC 335/2024 question and to remit its opinion to the Secretary General of this Court,
preferably by 12 noon on 23 July 2024.
5 The Secretary General is requested to communicate a copy of this order to the Director, IIT Delhi today itself so that expeditious steps for the
preparation of the opinion be taken, as stated above.
