  • Squidro Flies are well-known for their steelhead catching abilities. I decided to do a variation of the original Squidro Fly Pattern and tie specifically for Trout Spey with no rear rubber legs. www.cooperlandingfishingguide...
    Giving credit to the Skagit Master, Scot Howell for his innovative fly design, I used just the front version of his fly pattern for this Trout Spey Mini "Intruder."
    The materials I used in this squidro fly can be swapped out for your favorite colors. I really enjoy using yellow, orange, brown and some red for tying this squidro fly pattern.
    A simple, easy to tie and very effective fly for Rainbow Trout and Dolly Varden Fly Fishing up here in Alaska. This fly will also be effective for Great Lakes Trout and Steelhead.
    Thank you so much for watching and Tight Lines!

    Amazing colors for the brown trout around the Green and South Fork of the Snake Rivers! I have fond memories of fishing the South Fork with my Dad and the browns just eating a size 2 bucktail streamer in those colors! Thank you for sharing your time and talents! Here's to making some memories with my boys with those flies!

    Been searching for some spey patterns to tie for the fall in Montana and keep coming across your videos. Great ties, and we seem to be on the same page that you can get a lot of color and movement out of flies that don't take 20 mins to tie for each one! Definitely gonna tie up a few color variations of this. Bet it moves like crazy! Thanks for the video.

    Gotta love that Angora Goat for dubbing. Really great movement and flare. Is this fly about 2 1/2 inches? Thanks!

      The more I tie with it, the more I absolutely love it. It can do so many things and you really don't need a whole lot of it :) Thank you again for checking out my videos Stephen!

    I got a question, on that wire for the trailer hook how long do you make it? It looks about an inch and a half to two inches to me. Or are you using the shank length as a gauge to get the proportions right?

    • @CooperLandingFishingGuide
      @CooperLandingFishingGuide  5 років тому

      Hey George! Thank you so much for watching and for your question! I basically keep it just a little longer than the hook size in case I ever want to change them out. I measure on my vise from where I put the shank in to where the bend in the jaws starts and it keeps it relatively consistent. I definitely use the shank to help with proportions for sure :) Thanks again!

      @@CooperLandingFishingGuide Thanks, I am new the Trout Spey and Spey in general, I fish a lot of heavily fished streams here in CT we have good populations of big brown trout, but they see a lot of the usual flies, I want to catch more of them in a more consistent way. I think Trout Spey is going to be the trick.

      @@GeorgeSemel Heck yes! That sounds awesome! You can tie this one with some dumbell eyes as well or other weights and certainly experiment with hook up or down. I like the hook down for this unweighted version to keep it swimming correctly, but if you add weight, you could use hook up or down. Thanks again!
