- Fire Emblem: Engage was just announced as the newest entry in the Fire Emblem series! These are my initial reactions to the trailer, but I'm sticking solely in the positive zone!

A well rounded view of Engage based on partial information? Make it so number one.
It's very nice to have a purely positive video on something. Especially when it's being so hotly debated as this game right now.
You can still go back and find threads of people saying the same things about FE3H moments after it was announced, how it was going to kill the franchise and etc. It's tragically par for the course
The conversation concerning this game is RAPIDLY turning around.
You bring up some good points, and while there are still some things I I'm pretty bummed about, your positivity is contagious and I'm finding myself hopeful that what we don't know is all good stuff.
I already see your 0% growth run thumbnails with Alear’s hair on Anakin talking about how he slaughtered them like animals, so I think it’ll be good

My feelings on Alear's character design have been going back and forth, but I think they've settled the same way my feelings for Trubbish the garbage pokemon did a long time ago. That is, I think it's a lovably stupid design that only gets more entertaining for me the more people hate on it. I can't help but smile looking at them.
Idk if anybody brought this up, but I’m pretty sure Three Houses had something like that “Momentum” thing from Engage’s trailer. I remember there was a Lance Combat Art that would move units back and Dimitri’s Paraselene would move him backwards as well. Also gauntlets had 2 combat arts. One that would move a unit in front of the enemy after attacking, and then another that would move them back after attacking. 😃

Three Houses is my first ever Fire Emblem game and I will say I’m hooked! I’ve probably put in over 200 hours into the game it has so much replay value. I hope this next instalment can at least come close to the engaging storyline and characters in Three Houses.
Totally agree with you on the graphic style being better. FE3H felt like they were trying futilely to fight the limitations of the Switch, whereas Engage feels like they've accepted the limitations and decided to work with them, and it looks night and day better already.

Did you ever play triangle strategy? It obviously didn't invent the movement you cited berwick saga for, but it's the only game I'm aware of in recent memory that's done it.
That game's actual strategy gameplay rocks imo, worth playing even if you don't like the slow, dialogue-heavy side of things. It's a masterclass in unit feel too, considering literally every single one is unique and there are 30 playable units.

Do have to admit I don't feel great about the art tho. Not the designs or how colorful everything is! I love the latter and don't mind the former. Not ever alear's deal, it's so dumb I can't help but love it. No it's the noses. please god when will noses be popular in art again. But that's personal taste and I'll probably get used to it somewhat
My favorite part of the trailer is how they were like "shit do we have anything for the 3 houses only fans to like" and went directly for the "hey remember how in the last game (which you liked and gave us money for) there were three countries with a monastery in the middle? well this time there are four (4! 3+1!) countries and a whole entire sacred island in the middle!"

Honestly I'm just glad that we've gone back to a more head empty narrative premise. I think for a series like Fire Emblem specifically being able to start from a really simple position could give them the room to make it at least an emotionally satisfying story instead of another FE title that's just Endless, Crushing Discourse
My only apprehension from the footage and apparent low movement is it might mean that map sizes will be smaller than usual. TLDR I'm a fan of large maps.
I like your line of thinking, a lot of the opinions I’ve seen for this game have been a bit too heavy I think I should say, even if it’s releasing in 4 to 5 months (just like 3Hopes did and that game has relatively positive reception).
Everyone seems to be drawing conclusions, doesn’t matter that it’s positive or negative, we know too little to be that critical (opinions like; it’s colorful so it’s not going to explore dark themes, or it’ll be boring or by the book because the little info we got on the plot is unoriginal) of the game and that’s not a first impression.
I’m trying to be optimistic, I don’t hate the designs, and I overall don’t know what to think of the game from the first reveal, but I will be hopeful, I love 3Hopes and I initially didn’t think I would play 3 Houses but when I decided to get my hands on it, it quickly became one of my favorite most played games at 350+ hours so saying I grew to love it goes without saying, but until I see more these are my thoughts on Engage.

everything about the visuals and art style on this game is an improvement, but I'll never forgive I.S. to approve the mix color of hair and eyes for Alear.
Man the more I look at Alear's dumb hair the more I like it. It's just so dumb! I love it. It's perfect. Also I have literally seen people hate on the last 3 lords' designs so when the Alear hate came out I was SO DONE we all know we're gonna be making fanart of them anyways

Indeed! Excited or not, I want to actually PLAY the game before I make up my mind on it. A trailer can only give you so much, ESPECIALLY in a series like Fire Emblem where, for the hardcore fans like myself, enjoyment or misery is all in the details.
to be honest, as much as i don't like some of these new designs, i'm really vibing with the lighting, colors and art direction they've shown us - especially compared to three houses. i'm optimistic!

I must Say, Alear's design has grown on me. The leaked image we first saw gave a bad first impression, but seeing them in higher quality video does them alot of favors. I really like their uniform as well, it reminds me of Eliwoods white outfit that we only see at the end of FE7.
From what we see of the maps, they look beautiful. Im excited to play these levels and hoping we get a return to form eith map design. The combat animations look great as well. Aside from the character art, FE has never looked this good before.
There's alot of complaints about the returning characters (and baseless claims of this somehow being a Gatcha game) but im actually hoping there's more character rings than the 12 in the trailer. We have lords that are not present (Alm, Hector, Elincia 3H lords ect) and there's plenty of non lords who deserve representation imo. Caeda, Tiki, Titania, Finn and many more deserve a spot. One of the main appeals of FE is that you can take any character and turn them into a legend. In theory any character can become just as prominent in your playthrough as your lord so not including non lords is a mistep imo. I can't imagine this game not receiving any DLC (let's hope reasonably priced) so we'll be getting more than the 12 at some point during this games life cycle. It's nice to see commentary on this game thats not doom posting so props on that Bopper

Honestly I just think this Fire Emblem will be neat, very cool looking and has some cool designs, but maybe won't have the HUGEEEE impact of Three Houses. It seems more like a budget title to fill in before the next mainline game or remake. Also I wanna engage Tokyo Mirage Sessions Chrom.
