They did everything they could. Could someone please elaborate. A friend was there who defied the evacuation order. He saw very little done. The evacuation was Monday night. Tuesday was a nice day, no wind, clear skies. How is it that heavy equipment was brought in and not used. Where was the fire retardant, respirators, firetrucks, helicopters, planes etc. My friend watched as his house and neighbourhood burned. Saying we did everything we could is like Doctors watching someone die and not doing anything. Give people the equipment, the resources, and the opportunity and it's amazing what can be done, but without leadership and the quibbling about federal vs provincial responsibilities no wonder Jasper burned. There were plenty of research papers, fire management plans and solutions over the last ten years. Very little was implemented. So sad. Municipal, provincial, and federal leaders need to be held accountable.

No one cares about research anymore. They think climate change is a hoax, and it's mere coincidence the pine beetles have spread rampantly into new environments. They see rampant fires and record heat waves and are like "Hmm, that's odd". Meanwhile, the scientists and researchers and fire protection agencies are losing their minds trying to warn people that this is what happens.

Apparently, in Canada, trees can only be cut down AFTER they are burning. Otherwise, each tree has to be personally interviewed about their feelings for the future, and then that interview has to be analyzed by a psychologist, and those counsellors aren't easy to find, because they need special PhDs mandated by new provincial agencies. INSANITY!

    Absolutely OUTRAGEOUS.
Mayor, Emergency Dept and Fire chief should resign. Who in their right mind pats their own back, congratulates themselves and each other on doing a good job AFTER causing the entire population to evacuate and after 300+ buildings have burned. Go get a reality check. Govt. officials praising themselves after a failed test is ultimate cringe and narcissistic behavior.

We are so sad for Jasper residents. My wife is from Jasper where we met over 50 years ago and were married in the church that is now burnt to the ground and shown in some of the videos. The home she grew up in is gone, many of our old friends lost everything including their hard earned businesses.
A little sympathy and respect is needed not finger pointing and uninformed blame games. Natural forces are sometimes unstoppable and can override any effort and plans that humble humans might make. A little help right now might serve everyone better.

    • @Free_Krazy
      @Free_Krazy 2 місяці тому +4

      Yeah, it might have.
But how many towns do you know with proper fire barriers?
Ive been across the continent, specifically the interior, and i haven't seen a single town with such measures in place.
So the issue isn't the lack of a fire barrier, its the lack of such precautions being mandatory/common practice.
But even besides that our species wide agenda against wildfires is just making them worst.
The natives of this land co-existed with wildfires since the beginning, they are part of the natural ecosystem with entire species of plants and by extention animals relying on this cycle of renewal, just look at Redwoods, their seeds litterally require fire to germinate!
But instead of having fires occour naturally and burn themselces out we battle them.
This only leaves dead foliage to build up on the forest floor for DECADES.
So when a fire finally gets out of control there is nothing stopping it from becoming a true monster.
Where there would have been a small fire "decimating" a forest it would grow back stronger and heathier just to wait for the mext cleansing by fire.
Instead, we fight the fire, and by doing so it only makes things harder down the line..

We've actively fought forest fires for many decades, curious as to what effect that has had on the amount of fuel available for fires to burn? It'd be naive to not think that it couldn't be a contributing factor as well.

The majority of the population of Jasper are not rich people. They are in the service industry and often work at minimum wage and live in very modest rented premises. This fire will put many of them out of work and home.
Their futures are very uncertain and the financial uncertainty will be immediate. A little sympathy might be a better option for your soul.
