But whenever Mechanical Engineering majors appear on your show, woh jobs ki baatein he nahi kartay 😨😨😨 koi photogrqpher ban gaya, koi business kar raha hai, koi DC ban gaya...what is happening yar??!! itni mehnat se Mechanical ki field mili hai aur motivation zara si bhi nahi 😂😂😂 Aapse request hai plz mechanical engineer le aayein show pe, dil ko tasalli ho jaye gi lol. In my humble opinion, my brother Ehmad here kept on generalizing on certain things based on his personal experience about them, which, in my opinion, is unjust. 1. Apps ka scope limited hota hay... Yes, but only if you or people around you never got exposed to one with extended scope or may be app dev was not your jam, which is fine. I do agree that in Pakistan it is hard to find such opportunities as most (not all) firms do not take apps as first priority. 2. Do a job for 4 years after graduation before entering freelancing... WHAT!!!! study the dynamics of Pakistani nation and people doing jobs around you, most of them have this dream of leaving job and doing something of their own..(not saying freelancing is the answer, more on that in remarks below) but after 3 - 4 years in a job culture you enter this SAFE mentality that makes leaving the job culture an impossible mission, some might find a way but most do not... I can go on hours on this topic alone on how it can take away the risk taking balls from you, most of them apply to Pakistani dynamics though. Bhai 28 saal main aik bacha ho jata mostly Pakistanio ka...:D p.s. imo doing a job is fine before freelancing, but it can be during graduation and 1 year after graduation, because your stakes are not as high during that time and you can generally take risks. Freelance in the start is a bumpy ride and your initial few projects (a couple of years for me) are not as exciting but things take a positive turn as you grow smartly. 3. You can't find a mentor or grow while doing freelance Again, it strictly depends on what you want to achieve from freelance or even job, if your vision is weak, no matter how hard you try you cannot grow in a job.. and believe me, if your vision is strong, people find YOU no matter what you are doing. You have to network with lots of people, make mistakes and pivot fast depending on what you want to achieve. But, if your vision is to become an entrepreneur and you are doing a job under a PM in a stable company for 4 years who is also doing a regular job (no issues with him) for 10 years or so, imagine the kind of direction your growth will be taking you. Making the right calls based on what your target goal is, is the right answer even if that is to engage with freelancing and grow in learning client dealing, sales, marketing, decision making, risk management, dynamic finance management other than just becoming a developer working under a PM (just an example). The scale of these soft skills may be small at the start but they are important building blocks for running any business that cannot be experienced in a stable company. 4. Degree vs Skill (I agree with him on this) For west, the dynamics are different, but for Pakistan if you can manage to the top tier university, it teaches you a lot more than academics, make sure to expose yourself to all those opportunities as they make you grow, role of academics is not much.. but must must do side projects, internships regular during a degree.... these things together will tell you want exactly you want to do in life by the time you are nearing graduation. Remarks on Freelancing (imo) A friend of mine once said, you do a job 9 - 5 and afterward everything is b**w job... Moral, it is never a win win, there is always a trade-off. To me freelancing is not becoming a boss of yourself, it's a lie, but it does give me flexibility to control my time, for instance from 2018-19 I did startup with 80% of my day time while spending 20% on freelancing while still making a handsome living. Ideally it should be 100% startup time but dynamic of everyone is different and freelance is the answer to keep those dynamics in control. Freelancing is not a peak, it's just a step, a step much much better than job if you plan on becoming a services company and even an entrepreneur as you constantly learn from ranging clients, companies and entrepreneurs you work with, some may be bad while others are exceptional and that is the beauty of freelance, you get to experience diversity . All depends on your goal. NEVER SETTLE! Regards, Fellow Nustian, 2k11 p.s. ignore the typos... ;)
Aoa, I am young gun, currently doing A levels in Computer Science. My plan is to become a full stack web developer in the future. Actually I am kind of introvert and need help from people like you on how to overcome this unsocial attitude. Can I have some tips please, or connect with you?
Sir First time I got clear about all of these (why we need to do a degree and why we need to do freelancing). This is a great person. He cleared my all confusion and mind. I got to relax and satisfied and and and and Alhamdulillah. Thanks Muzamil Bhi, JazzakAllah. Allah ap ko assy he kamiyabiyan atta kry.
Thank You Muzamil Bhai for putting this podcast out here, got so much value and especially a new way of thinking from this, as a high school student who is also remote working in an agency as a web developer, and looking to go deeper in this field, and grow. Thank You Emad Bhai as well! 😄😄👍🏼
Liked this podcast ❤️ but disagree with some of their views. I disagree that you should learn first and then do freelancing. Also, disagree that you can do freelancing in university when doing the degree. 1- When you are in university and if you start freelancing, you start earning well and it will easily divert you from your studies and you will feel that skills are enough, no need to focus on degree. 2- You should start freelancing after your graduation if you are a fast learner and ready to take challenges. For example: When you start freelancing, you can even learn more than doing a job. You work with multiple clients, do multiple projects and have a great exposure. You learn to solve problems yourself. Freelancing isn’t just attached with money. It teach you so many other things like time management, work balance, finance management, self learning and much more. Freelancer is an all in one guy. Just think when you are learning a complete package plus getting paid for your time and effort too, this makes you more passionate to grow. 3- Let’s just compare if a guy who graduated and started doing job learnt development under mentorship and becomes a good developer after three years. He learnt development, office ethics etc but then that job guy will never have guys to start something new and will always rely on less income just because of stability. But A guy who started freelancing after graduation learnt how to speak with clients, how to manage a project, how to deliver, how to work under pressure, how to manage finances and how to build a good relationship with clients and much more. I bet that same guy after three years will have much more exposure having same experience and expertise in development and other above things if compared with that guy who started the job after graduation. I never saw any freelancer who didn’t get expert in skillset if he started freelancing. 4- Every one says freelancing is not stable. I think they are not good in managing it and I invite them to have a 1:1 session with me where I will prove them that freelancing is 5x more stable than a job. 5- I started freelancing two years ago after graduation in Software Engineering and realised that I am more of a business development guy. After two years, I have a team of 4-5 people working remotely with me + have a full-time job working directly for Upwork. Now, as being part of Upwork Internal team as a full-time job, I am still allowed to do freelancing where I also manage my clients and my team works. 6- When we can be successful doing freelancing, when we can learn everything without a job and being self employed, why even we have to make a mindset of doing job in future? That’s why a senior developer makes 2 Lac per month having fear of stability and the CEO of a software house makes money while sleeping and afford luxury cars. 7- Change the mindset guys and job is not even close to self employment. 8- I wrote this on mobile so please ignore grammar mistakes or typos 😂
True that freelancing isn't just about earning 5$ clients is way more than that. What he is telling about universities in Pakistan is BS. Obviously, there are professional fields that can't be replicated but in terms of growth, management and self learning freelancing can't be replicated

I think a great discussion for youth. Indeed, out of pakistan, universities will teach you skills. The universities senior experts are also working for companies. Good luck
I think the main point here which we all are missing is to upgrade ourselves. If you are constantly upgrading yourself, it does not matter either you are into freelancing or into the job. people need to understand the difference between website development and web apps.
Why we only limit ourselves to Fiever/Upwork. Explore Toptal, Turing and you name them. Why we don't participate in open source?. Imagine how much open source can upskill you
and I don't understand why people always talk about WordPress when it comes to tech freelancing. All of us need to understand the difference between website development and web app development. we all are focused on website development not into web apps
Purpose of degree is to teach you skills. if degree is not teaching you skills to survive in life because you can't live without it. instead of wasting time find anther way. Degree doesn't worth it.
Being a freelancer, I once applied at web developer remote internship thinking ab kch seekhne ko milay ga and they said to me "they avoid freelancers like a plague" 🤣
Karna nai chahiye but there is a reason for that. Freelancers ka masla ye hota hai k agar usay koi gig mil jaye, apart from his job, vo us pe apna pura time invest kar deta hai and company loyalty issues hotay hai. Not saying ap aisa karo ge but generally aisa hota hai
Ap mentality he yh le kr gai "kch sekhne ko mile ga" then inko chor kr apna krlon gi lkn apko mentality yeh le jayen k kese ap unko productivity kese increase kr k de sakte hen. Pehle unko do phir unse lo simple

Insightful discussion on freelancing vs job-development and self-investment
Bhai 28 saal main aik bacha ho jata mostly Pakistanio ka...:D
p.s. imo doing a job is fine before freelancing, but it can be during graduation and 1 year after graduation, because your stakes are not as high during that time and you can generally take risks. Freelance in the start is a bumpy ride and your initial few projects (a couple of years for me) are not as exciting but things take a positive turn as you grow smartly.
3. You can't find a mentor or grow while doing freelance
Again, it strictly depends on what you want to achieve from freelance or even job, if your vision is weak, no matter how hard you try you cannot grow in a job.. and believe me, if your vision is strong, people find YOU no matter what you are doing.
4. Degree vs Skill (I agree with him on this)
For west, the dynamics are different, but for Pakistan if you can manage to the top tier university, it teaches you a lot more than academics, make sure to expose yourself to all those opportunities as they make you grow, role of academics is not much.. but must must do side projects, internships regular during a degree.... these things together will tell you want exactly you want to do in life by the time you are nearing graduation.
Remarks on Freelancing (imo)
A friend of mine once said, you do a job 9 - 5 and afterward everything is b**w job...
Freelancing is not a peak, it's just a step, a step much much better than job if you plan on becoming a services company and even an entrepreneur as you constantly learn from ranging clients, companies and entrepreneurs you work with, some may be bad while others are exceptional and that is the beauty of freelance, you get to experience diversity .

and LOL! does Pakistan really have good IT companies?
We have few product based companies which are sort of saith based companies
University is where we make network with like minded people
After headless wordpress is so much more powerful and customizable to talk to any server / techstack

I think the statement Freelancers are not having a future path is a bit wrong, because there is a path for freelancers to follow and grow.
