My grandfather had one of these, bought new, it was is last truck, he drove it around fifteen years before he passed. Solid truck, damn near bulletproof. If I were you and you’re going to upgrade the springs, I’d do all the ball joints and bushings with one that old, it’s more or less preventative maintenance, but it’ll keep you from breaking something important down the line. Nice find, Safe travels !
Where is that truck now? Hopefully you still have it! Good idea on the maintenance. I definitely want this to be as reliable and safe as I can make it. 🍻
great truck!!! I have 2 the '89 toyota hilux 4x4 2'5 petrol w/420k and my 1991 toyota hilux 4x4 2'2 petrol w/981k , BEST TRUCKS EVER MADE!!! WON'T SELL THEM FOR ANYTHING THEY ARE BOTH BEASTS on my farm and daily driving with just regular maintenance these trucks last forever!!!
Beautiful truck I have 2…at end of 88 me and my dad walked into dealer I got a short bed SR5 and my dad got the advertised 1 at this price DLX came with butterfly side windows, king bed, AC, sliding rear window, cloth bench seat with middle divider… i now own both….but DLX came with perks almost equal to SR5
Yeah unfortunately most of the chinooks out there are in terrible condition. Thankfully since the sheep is fiberglass you can rebuild them but that is a lot of work. What are your plans with the 4Runners?
@@azorianification I've thought about combining the best parts from both into one and selling what is left over. The 85 runs and drives but needs cleaned up and some parts replaced. The 87 runs but has transmission issues, but all the windows and locks work. There is a local guy that wants to trade me for his k20 pickup for the 87. I'll probably keep the 85 for as long I live. It took me awhile to find it. 5 speed, 22re, and straight axle is pretty hard to give up.
That sounds like a good find. Combining all of the best parts into one sounds like the best idea if you plan on keeping it forever. As you know these are getting more difficult to find as time goes on. Keeping the 22re or swapping it?
@@azorianification A lot of TLC haha starting with all the old hoses and things in the bay. A fresh coat of paint when it's warm out as well. Found a hole in the floorboard the other day, so that's my priority at the moment haha
Does it only rub the front fender that’s cut or does it rub the back when you turn the front wheel? Also does it have any lift? Curious what I can fit on mine stock
No lift. It runs the front fender very slightly. May need a tiny bit for trimmed to clear it fully. I’ve recently sold the wheels so I wouldn’t be able to test my theory. The new wheels clear everything perfectly.
Great truck. I bought a brand new 1988 truck just like that one back in the day. Loved it.
That would be amazing to buy one of these brand new 🍻

@@azorianification Unfortunately his son inherited the truck and sold it a few years later
Well with any luck it’s still out there and someone is enjoying it 🍻

The only thing better than one Toyota truck is two of them 😁🍻

Thanks 🍻

Doing the 4x4 nookie. I ended up selling my chinook and getting an 85 4runner.
What year was it? Was it converted to 4x4? I love the older 4runners. 🍻
@@azorianification my chinook was a stock 76 that was lived in by mice. It was really nasty. I've got an 87 and 85 4runners now.

What happened? Where's the follow up video? So curious what you have done with it.
Update video will be posted soon. 🍻
@@azorianification awesome! Looking forward to it. I've got an 88 V6 Xtra cab - runs great but needs work.

Amazing. How much did you get it for?
Around 5 🍻
Did you sell the bed yet? I may be interested.
I haven’t. Where are you located?

Are you in IG? If so, send me a DM
Sold bed yet?
Not yet. Haven’t gotten around to listing it online
What sizes
What size tires? Wheels?
How much did you pay?
More then I wanted to. Over $5k but I’ve made quite a bit back by selling the rust free bed, seats and the wheels.
J'aimerais avoir cette voiture, comment vous contacter ?
Sorry, not for sale
@@azorianification d'accord merci

1uz>3.4 liter
Even more power would be nice. How difficult is a 1uz swap in an 88? Seems like it wouldn’t fit 😂
