Love your videos! Just a suggestion - I leave the dipstick tightened, take the drain plug out and note the rate of the flow and then remove the dipstick. The flow of oil should be much faster with the dipstick loosened proving your breathers in the heads are working correctly. Another added bonus doing it this way is with the slower flow of oil you have less chance of burning your hand with hot oil.
I did that today on my M8 when I changed my oil. Leave the dipstick in while it's draining and should come out slow until you take out the dipstick, then it will flow significantly faster if the breather valves in the head are working properly. Good tip!
Walt Stovall Spin it on by hand till it seats, then 1/2-3/4 turn more. By hand is preferable, but can use the wrench if needed. Can’t tell how firmly he seated the filter before he rotated it 3/4 more.
I would very much appreciate Synthetic vs Conventional. All my research points to synth being better for longevity and parts protection. I plan on swapping my future M8 bike to Synthetic Amsoil 20W50 asap.
Do you realize that the trans fluid is to be checked on the jiffy stand, and not upright? Also after removing the trans dipstick, then cleaning off the dipstick, you are supposed to screw the dipstick back in till the o ring just touches the case. The way you checked it will give false readings.
Julian Johnstone in the past there was no markings for on the jiffy stand and upright, just upright. Harley changed that so you can check it on the jiffy stand and know it’s correct or not since you’re not going to have a lift or wheel chalk on the road
Jiffy stand is the correct position per the marking. Upright, the level will appear slightly high (at or above the top line) which is probably how experienced mechanics judge the level.
Ok just a couple of things, Didn't check the primary oil ? and didn't check the tire pressure in the rear tire? I would expect that in a paid oil change.
I get oil leaking out of my air intake. Any ideas? I have a 17 SGS with Harley heavy breather air intake and cobra exhaust. Harley told me to take some oil out that it could have to much oil. I did that and still have the issue. Great channel. Love your videos. Keep them coming
Fat Head Cycles I did that. Didn’t leak for 3 days. Think the filter just soaked it up. Do you recommend venting breather bolts to atmosphere like a catch can?
Same on my 17RGS. Stock breather. It started in my third year of ownership on a 350 ride to the Carolinas. I replaced the air filter just before the trip. The oil was making a mess to the point I stopped and cleaned out the housing. The bike had around 28k miles on it at the time. The local harley dealership said that's normal on long hwy trips during the summer,. Not the answer I was expecting. Note: this never happened on any other long summer road trips.
Feuling highly recommends not to use synthetic oil on M8 engines. Also, the early models had oil scavenging problems that can give you a false oil level reading.
Confident and intelligent.....someone who can talk about bikes and work on bikes exceptionally......Bravo 👏
Great video by a professional high end technician. Thank you keep them coming!
Thank you for watching!
Good video. Straight to the point. No BS. Thank you.

Brilliant video easy to follow many thanks from england
The more I know I know about Harley's the more I know I will never afford them....awesome video....
I feel sorry for the next guy who removed the old oil filter. You just serverly over tighten the oil filter. Hand tighten ONLY!
Walt Stovall Spin it on by hand till it seats, then 1/2-3/4 turn more. By hand is preferable, but can use the wrench if needed. Can’t tell how firmly he seated the filter before he rotated it 3/4 more.
Great video as usual! i always learn one or more things from your videos!
Great vids. Thanks!
Thx great information

That is not a bad idea. The video is coming though!
The manual for my lowrider M8 fxlr says to put 4 quarts??

Don't understand how the level was spot on when he added oil to the filter??
I wonder why it says in the owners manual to check the oil level for trans on jiffy stand... i know the shops do it with the bike upright.
Julian Johnstone in the past there was no markings for on the jiffy stand and upright, just upright. Harley changed that so you can check it on the jiffy stand and know it’s correct or not since you’re not going to have a lift or wheel chalk on the road

What about the primary and transmission. How much oil spilled out of the new filter.
Luv ur videos bro
Quick n easy vid. Will you do a primary and transmission vid next. Cheers

What's up with all the oil on the bottom of the bike?
Royal purple
So not checked on the jiffy stand ??
I use Phillips 66 20w50 dino runs crazy smooth. High zinc content the only oil approved by the faa.
Gd job THx alot
2017 limited best one I have owned in 48 years of HDs. Lot smoother than the twink. What the best price you have seen for mobile 1 syn?
9.00 a quart on sale at my local auto parts store
Quick question, does the 4.5 qts, include the oil that you put in the filter?
I will answer for the dude--Yep it does- it is 4.5 quarts total.
Mobil 1 is not a 100 % syn oil. It’s a 85/25 blend.
True, but Harley Syn 3 is only 60 syn 40 mineral blend.
I notice that you did'nt check the rear tire pressure. On my H-D it is a total bastard to check and add more air.
I get oil leaking out of my air intake.
Any ideas?

Great channel. Love your videos. Keep them coming
I would clean your air filter and re-evaluate the situation
Fat Head Cycles I did that. Didn’t leak for 3 days. Think the filter just soaked it up.

I’m pretty sure you’re supposed to check the trans fluid at the top of the threads and not screwed back in....?
In the manual too
Looks like he stayed some sort of undercoating on his bike...?
I missed the drain plug install...did you put on any Teflon tape? I usually don’t but was curious what you recommend.
Nice as a backup or sense of security, but it's not necessary.
I run 40 psi front and back

You get 2👍🏿 for using mobile 1 oil!!!
Syn vs conventional oil.
How is the top end noise with using the Mobil 1 V twin? Is it louder?
Harley road king 2018 worse motorcycle I've ever owned., just trade it in for a Moto Guzzi California, and I love it.
Thank you sir your comment has added so much value to this video that I don't know what I would have done without it.
Moto Guzzi: When only a pain in the ass will do!
