I’m watching this video in 2024, sad cause baatin and dilla are gone, but their music continues to live on, SV is one of the greatest groups. Fantastic vol 2 is one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Long live SV!
Dilla was SUPER ahead of his time DJing the set on 2 MPCs. No doubt in my mind, he would've been rocking out with an MPC Live, SP-404 or something else if he was still here
The quality of the sound coming from the MPC direct and Dilla controlling the sound is so powerful. Any other footage is not this strong. The crowed is hyped! The timing of vocals is perfection. Priceless. If you notice before 'Tell Me' Baatin gets excited as Dilla pressed the MPC
Thank you soooo much for sharing Jon. I was a student back then a a local University. Fridays at St. Andrews were epic, and it was only $8 to get to see Slum perform all of this live! Incredible, and sometimes they'd have The Roots, Dela, Tribe & Common with them and a host of other Detroit greats, like Phat Kat, Guilty Simpson & a yung eLzhi. Man that was a great time to be alive.
SV forever. The shows at St. Andrews were Incredible. Slum is the absolute Best! Baatin killed his verse. Dilla Dj-ing & rhyming at the same time - Classic. Motor City Stand Up!
I was on Slum Village show in Prague, club Roxy on 12.2.2006, 2 days after he passed. T3 and Elzhi totally nailed it!!! Not a single standing still person there. Unforgetable night. Spirit was there. J Dilla as great for music and art as MJ. Peace out.
They have such a vibe. Music always so dope and unique flow and voices. Miss this bunch together. Batiin (sp) alone. SUCH a talent. Always looked forward to his verses.
@The Great Ikr. Hate these Dilla stealing mothafuckers. Tryna keep Dilla beats locked up & only for exclusive, type shit!? Like WHO the FUCK are you? Share it with the rest of the world as Jay Dee intended to.
I still can’t believe I missed them play at the Electronic Music Festival because I lost track of time at a pub in Greektown. One of my greatest regrets
I actually met him at st andrews once and another time through amp fiddler. I never saw him perform live he was in the hotel in atlanta too sick so he didnt show. But T and El held it down that night
This is legendary, thank you! i'm a big Dilla Dawg/SV fan (I even saw Dilla perform a few months before his death) and I had never seen footage of this period. I can't believe I'm actually watching them perform Raise It Up😮!!! Thank you🙏🏾
I keep coming back to this clip. I forgot I commented here 8 years ago. Still coming back. Raise it up is like the Detroit Anthem. Direct MPC sound is out of this world. The eternal return of Slum and Dilla!
True that... it was JayDee at that time, since then though I guess I've come to refer to him as Dilla. Glad you got to see them live... definitely a special time!

The Bliss Of This Music Is Sex To The Ears...In fact This Might Be Better Than Sex.I Wanna Thank Those Lords For Fixing My Taste In Music.Im A 12 Year Old And Used To Like Lil Wayne(idk) But Thank You For Ryming About Life And Teaching Me Lessons,SV!
Damn, I know I'm like 8 years late, but fuck. Now your what? 19, 20 years old! He'll yeah Bro!!! You have good taste. And don't ever feel bad about you listening to Lil Wayne. Cause I was at that age once, also listening to Wayne. But the only difference is that I had no clue who Jay Dee/J Dilla was at all or ever thought I came across him, but you at 12 y/o did! I've just recently rediscovered through my good friend, and realized that I did remember hearing J Dilla on Adult Swim's bumps late at night as a kid. And by the way, I'm only 24, so we're basically in the same generation. Anyways, One Love Bro!& 🎶Jay Dee flip another beat for me!!!🎼🎹🎤🎵🎶💯💯💯💯🙏☝🙌😇❤💯💯💯
