The way the artist has used different brushstrokes to create this painting is so clever.

I just bought from swans. Thank you! I am a broke recent graduate not in art and looking for affordable supplies I can justify buying as I learn!

Awesome! I hope it helps! I'm by no means an expert on affordable art supplies, but I've picked up a few things. I'd love to see what you create!!!!

Love this video, thanks! I do have a question: How do you clean and/or store your brushes? Thanks in advance!

Great question! I don't clean my brushes often, so it's something I need to get better at. Right now I heat them up and take off the wax with a paper towel. I'll use a little clear medium when I've cleaned off as much wax as I can, and that helps me get more color out. There's a type of wax that's just for cleaning brushes, but I can't remember what it's called since I've never used it.

How to avoid cracks on wax when it’s dry

    • @thefarpavilion

The only time I've ever gotten cracks in the wax is when I've tried to paint on canvas or fabric. A flexible substrate will produce cracks.

I was told you need soy wax to clean your brushes with. Also I heard you need to use a stain blocker 1st because of the chemicals in wood. Then you need an Encaustic gesso, which is very pricey??. Help.

    • @thefarpavilion

Never heard of using stain blocker... I've never had problems with my wax being discolored because of wood, even years later. Encaustic gesso is optional. I use it on my cubes sometimes to keep too much wax soaking into the grain, but it's not necessary.

I get confused about wax in a bag
    Encaustic paints
Then the encaustic in a block like yours
    Please help

No need to worry. As long as it's labeled encaustic medium, they are the same. Some artists prefer the pellets because they can be easier to work with and can melt faster. If you have the block, often you'll need to cut it down to fit in your tin, which can be a pain. But, I've found the pellets are more expensive. So it's just personal preference. I have never seen colored medium in pellets, only different sized blocks.
