Dear Everyone...Thanks so much for all the kudos and stoked to hear you enjoyed the solo adventure! I especially love hearing all of you who are now going to try driving/hooking up/soloing yourselves! If I can do it, so can you!!! Lots of you really liked the 'day in the life' style and want to see more videos like this. We have taken note and will definitely do more like this in the future...so thanks for the feedback! Jason is now back home and really appreciates all of the warm wishes. I am going to try and answer some of the most common questions, if I left anything out, let me know: 1. The blue container I carried away from the water area is our water softener, which helps with water quality tremendously. Here is a link for more info: www.gonewiththewynns.com/product/portable-water-softener 2. Yes, I did wash my hands after dumping the tanks...just didn't want to bore you with more footage. :) 3. No, we do not normally have to disconnect the car that often. Yes, you can slowly back up a flat towed car a little bit. It is not recommended because the wheel on the car could turn while backing up and cause damage to the car...so better safe than sorry. I personally prefer to disconnect than risk the damage (you've seen my luck). 4. Yes, truck stops are generally easier to navigate for fuel as there is more room and sometimes an RV lane. That actually was a Pilot truck stop and it did not have an RV lane. Of course, that is just my luck. :) 5. Yes, checklists can be super helpful and we recommend them for any newbie or new coach. However after 6 years of full timing its not something we feel the need for anymore and I wasn't concerned I was going to forget to do something. 6. You can see photos of my sweet Wild Camping spot and the GPS coordinates in the post that goes with this video here: www.gonewiththewynns.com/solo-rv-road-trip Thanks so much for watching!!!
+Gone with the Wynns Hi Nikki wow well done!! New follower here! Currently sat snuggled up in our RV in -1 degrees in the UK scouring your website, blog and youtube to take any and all info I can from you guys ahead of our own travels later this year. Love your attitude to go out and get stuff done (much the same as my own outlook) and very brave of you to travel on your own (cats noted). It has certainly given me pause for thought on our trip, my husband is as we speak taking HGV lessons followed by his HGV test tomorrow to be able to drive our RV. Unfortunately it costs quite a lot to get the licence so I won't be able to do this as well :( But to lo level things up I do get stuck in with all aspects of our full-time RV living and the last few months I have been plumbing, tiling, wiring, fitting, painting etc as we undertake renovations to our 30 yr old RV........GIRL POWER!!
The most amazing isn't that you can do it all by your lonesome (you're a veteran after all), but that you never stopped filming it, despite all the extra work that caused. True professional, lots of respect! All the Best to Jason as well!
Nikki--There's a level of honesty and real life in this video that is quite refreshing. Whether you know it or not, it'll be an encouragement to others who also don't regularly operate RVs.
+Robert Knowlton Thanks, I did try to show everything, especially my mistakes/uncertainty. I do hope it is an encouragement to others who might be hesitant...it's all so worth the effort!
You did awesome Nikki! I have never seen much of what you did there...having never done any RVing. And no doubt there was lots you didn't shoot. Smart moves with the car detaching! Better to move it, and not wreck it! You definitely earned that beer!
The power of a great team is when your a "man" down, you can continue on just fine. Nikki you have just proved you are an equal team member who can continue on just fine. What a thrill it is to know you are a strong independent person who has a strong independent person by your side. That is a "POWER" couple! Awesome video! you made wise decisions and took excellent care of your home!
You did fabulous .. even the video stuff ... GIRL POWER!! LOL .. and I totally agree that every traveler should learn how to manage alone, in case of emergency or whatever .. good job!
Good job, Nikki! Nice work all around -- leaving the campsite, dumping, hooking up, un-hooking, hooking up, fueling up, un-hooking, hooking up, finding the camping spot, finding another camping spot, shooting the video, editing the video, and all the nuances that I overlooked because you did such a good job all around! :-) Thank you!
FANTASTIC job, thanks for being so transparent and cheerfully honest about the CHALLENGES out there. You inspire me and I think this should be a Gone With the Wynns classic!!!
It was absolutely wonderful watching you do all those things on your own. I was smiling so hard to myself. You go gal... You slept good that night... You were wonderful and never got discouraged, proud of you..
You did such a great job, Nikki! It was so cool to see everything that really goes into moving an RV. Enjoy your time in the desert, it's so beautiful out there! I hope everything is ok with Jason and his family :)
EXCELLENT camera work, FANTASTIC edit. I love the more informal "vlog" style you showed here. This format would be awesome for your new journey on the water.
Boom! You are the woman Nikki! Girl Power for sure! You've always shown capable of handling anything in all of your videos, but this is an awesome message to send to the "passenger only" travelers. I'm glad everything worked out okay for you and hopefully for Jason as well :-)
My wife and I loved it! Great job on everything. Thanks for making such a candid video of the ups and downs of RVing - not just the pretty sights and fun gear. Please do more of these "day in the life" videos - great humor, great attitude.
Great job! Took the Fam on our first RV trip last summer. 14 states in 19 days with six kids. What were we thinking?... Best time of our lives. Doing it again in a few months. You did a great job on the edit too.
You deserve a lot of credit for the way you handled yourself & your big rig. I love how you kept your "cool", even during the tense moments of your solo trip. Safe travels!
Wow...I am totally impressed. I'm a guy and that looked stressful, the part of having to hook and unhook the car. I've owned RVs for almost 40 years and it is a lot of work and has challenges that most folks are not aware of. My wife would be unable to handle almost 90% of what you had to do in my absence. Good job and good luck!
Wow! You are awesome. You must have had a good sleep that night. This was an enlightening video to show how we all need to learn every aspect of RVing when an emergency comes about and you are alone. Amazing! You have my respect.
My thoughts are.......You did great, and you gained much more practice with the attaching/detaching of your tow car!! :) Love you guys.....always a pleasure to watch your videos!!
Your best video yet! I have soloed it in a class C trailing a 30' boat. It is a large learning curve, but it feels so good to know you can do it alone. I will forever more take the outside turn lane when trailing. Everyone in the evening commute traffic was understanding when they had to move their cars to enable me to make the turn. Very humbling ~ LOL So glad that you revealed the true emotions of RVing. It is an adventure!
Nikki this is FANTASTIC! Great job girlfriend! We are so impressed with how you did all this yourself, took on the challenge, unhooked/rehooked the car (twice), filmed every step of the way yourself (while driving too) telling a great, authentic, cohesive story, found yourself a safe place to park for the night (in the dark no less) AND did the video editing! WELL DONE! I (Julie) know first hand what it takes to do the filming/editing, BUT I am yet to drive and do everything with the RV, let alone solo! Anyway, I am impressed, we are impressed, and you've inspired me to maybe convince Marc to let me do this too... hmmm I don't know about that... we tow with a dolly not 4 down... I think it would be do-able but a reeeeaaallllyyyy long day! LOL Maybe one day. Anyway thanks for sharing, I'm sure you've inspired many solo women (and men) RVers to also go do it. This is one of my (our) favorite videos of yours. You sure deserved that beer! And hope all is OK with Jason's fam. We are currently in Florida, just got back from a couple of weeks in the Keys, but your footage reminds us that we are really looking forward to spending next winter in the desert! Happy Trails!
First, I home that everything works out well with Jason's family emergency. For the first time soloing I'd say you deserve a solid B+. The next time you solo I expect you will earn an solid A. As far as the shooting video and editing I'd give you and A. You told the story very well and had me laughing several times. Have fun.
Hope Jason and his family will be fine! But congratulations to you Nikki!!!The Rv,and the video, editing and all the rest, great work... Thank you very much to both of you...
I think 'we' did a great job together... I mean I felt like was there with you! ; ) Besides which I love SoCal... Seriously though, I thought you handled everything with aplomb, it was even kinda cute when you got a little stressed in that parking lot AND kinda cute the way you shined like a new penny after successfully extricating yourself! First time seeing your channel, can't wait to watch more. SUBSCRIBED
+Judy Hornbeck Thanks! I have a few extra thoughts, photos and GPS coordinates for my wild camping spot on the post: www.gonewiththewynns.com/solo-rv-road-trip
Way to go !!!!!! Super job!! You let no obstacle get in your way! And extra, extra points for being the screenwriter, actress, director, producer, editor, grip and soundman. It was obvious that you were breaking into a sweat (no offense) from all the hard work (5:28) - and yet you made it all look so easy! Like others have commented, would love to see more of this day-to-day, nitty-gritty style from time to time. Most importantly, I hope the family emergency works out for the best.
You did an excellent job handling such a big rig without panicking. I am nervous about driving something so big, so I enjoy watching females handling RVs. It lets me know that I can do it too one day!! :)
+Tygerlady99 I agree Tyderlady99. I enjoyed seeing her overcome the obstacle of hooking and unhooking the tow vehicle, and trying to maneuver around the tight spaces without panicking. It gives me confidence that someday I can do that too.
Tygerlady99 --- You may already know this, but when they get their catamaran, Nikki spends more time at the helm steering in tight spots than Jason. Quite a lady!
Absolutely wonderful and I think the best point you make in this video is that both are able to independently operate the RV in case your partner is disabled or is gone for some reason. You never know when you may end up alone with these tasks. Extremely difficult and high work intensive video to make! And the way things ended up in the end and how you confidently made good safe decisions. Even though it was an extremely exhausting day you didn’t even look tired. Amazing!
Now I know why guys need a beer, ha, ha, ha!! They do all the hard work which we often underestimate! Thanks to all the men in the world!!! NIkki you were awesome, and this video was very helpful for me since I am a solo female myself in the RV. Initially terrifying since I'm used to depending on a guy for a lot of mechanical stuff and driving, parking, towing, etc, but learning to be more technically competent, It actually helped me a lot to see you hooking and unhooking up the car, since I have to tow mine soon in a house move 500 miles away and frankly terrified of towing anything with my small Class C. I cannot imagine how you drive such a big rig, hats off! I would love to see a video on towing, hitches, which ones work best, what are all the wires and components to attach and buy, and what you can do and cannot do if car is being towed. For example can you back up at all if space is available for turning, or is this totally impossible? Which tow bars fold up, are light to leave on the RV, etc. Thanks for this video, you have a charming video presence, and have done us all a great service!
Being neither a camper or RVer I really enjoy watching you two work and I have to say Nicki you did real good it was a great video thanks to you and Jason for all the interesting work you two do.
Great job Nikki! Loved the video. I think you handled the car situation like a champ. I would have sat on the curb and cried until someone came. Along with cursing Jason the entire time.
I really enjoyed this. It felt like a little adventure that we were all on together. I actually like watching when things go wrong on videos like this I learn so much more.
+Gone with the Wynns Its possible but I don't think it's legal to have any liquor in the system in that big of a vehicle. I know its fine for cars though to a certain amount
You did a great job in both dealing with the RV and the video. I am more than impressed with your competence. Keep these videos coming and have fun.......
+phillip cyr I also would love to know more about this softener, cannot find it online. Any help is appreciated. And I love your youtube channel, been watching for awhile now. Bought our first RV "TT" last January and love it.
Well done Nikki! You did a great job and I appreciate the reminder that my wife and I should know how to do everything when we camp. We have had the same inside / outside setup for years and I think we need to do it better.
Good job Nikki. When something happens, knowing what to do helps and this video has made us really think about looking at smaller Fleetwoods, maybe just a 28 ft one (we will be towing a longer car behind ours bc we plan on towing an Outback). The video and its editing was spot on so great work. The cats input was purfect!
Very proud of you and sure Jason was too. Hope all is well with his family. Good video to show women need to know everything in case things like this happen.
Oh, Nikki... thank you so much. You rocked it! I felt all your fears and successes, and I know this can and will happen to me too. Now I know I can do it solo and it'll be just fine! Much love and continued success. BTW, Your Wynn adventures helped me convince my hubby to start RV'ing... (finally... after 25+ years of near- constant begging.) :) Hope to meet you both someday.
You made it wonderfully Nikki ! If Jason can do it, you can do it too, all by yourself !Very nice video quality. Editing work was just perfect. Congrats.Have fun !Cheers from Belgium.
I am sooo glad you shared that because I think I would like to take my daughter across the country in a motor home and as much as I could relate to your apprehension, I think you did an absolutely wonderful solo trip!! Thanks..I'm sure Jason is proud of you.
One of the better videos on the channel as far as I'm concerned. Your patience and ability to keep a positive attitude was inspiring. Your editing was ambitious and you pulled it off nicely. You definitely deserved that beer. Let's see some more of Nikki solo camping :-)
Actually I agree, a great video! I was amazed to see you went through the Whitewater area and NO winds to speak of, no wind turbines all turning like aircraft propellers! That was lucky especially after your earlier wind experiences in the High desert areas! You did a great job and I'd like to see more 'day in the life' videos too.
+Gone with the Wynns Excellent! Both of you make the best videos on UA-cam. You guys inspired me to build and live in my solar RV conversion. One of the best things I've ever did. Thanks!
Nikki, thank you for the wonderful video of you on a solo RV trip. You showed us some of the practical tasks that need to be done while camping in an RV. You also gave much encouragement to all women that they can handle and be successful driving and RV. Us guys are not the only ones who know how to drive :) Look forward to you and Jason going on more adventures.
You did amazing, in fact it was nice to see how we all get those days where you work hard just to get through the day. My thoughts are sent to Jason to keep him energizied through his family story and you are brave in my eyes. Love the kitties. Drink on...you earned it.
You did an awesome job. I remember all of your great shows on TV. Made me RV way more than I was. Thanks for all your help, I might be full time as soon as my retirement...any day now
Well done lass. Helps that there is so much more space in the States. Here in Europe, you get traffic backed up around you pretty fast ! Jason will be proud of you.
Good job, Nikki, with the story telling and video editing. I didn't have any doubts in your soloing part and your photos were beautiful as well. Happy traveling!
In 2015 at the age of 76, I bought myself a 26-foot class C rig, and took to the road. Yup, the learning curve was virtually vertical and worth every single minute of the 6-month adventure. The rig is parked now for the winter, but come May, I'll be on the road again, exploring eastern Canada and especially Newfoundland. I want to see those ice bergs drifting by. And the whales. And everything else it's possible to see on The Rock, as it's sometimes called. Your video reminded me of how much fun last year was, on my own.
Eldonna Waddell, what a wonderful brave soul you are....I applaud you...At 76 and purchasing and going solo on a rig...But you're not fooling me, you have had kahunas all your life....lol Proud of you
Congrats, Nikki, you managed very well on your own. It just takes practice and time to know where everything fits and rides in an RV. One suggestion, for easier access for fueling with the entire rig, I'll suggest going to a truck stop if one is available. They are usually set up to allow a longer truck easy access to fuel and on and off the road. Once again, congratulations on the first solo move.
You are so amazing, great job Nikki. You inspire me, driving the big motor home and pulling the car. Hope you are very proud of yourself. Always so much fun hearing about you and Jason trips. Take careLinda
Wow, Nikki, I am very impressed! You are amazing, I don't think I could do all you had to do. I would have been a mess! Greta job, I love all your videos. Maybe do some more cooking and organizing ones please!
You're a very game girl. That bodes well for your adventures on the ocean. It will be the same sort of thing - overcoming adversity without letting the pressure discourage you. The same will apply if your aviation interest ever takes you in that direction. The high regard and kindness which your cats enjoy is admirable too.
wow! you go girl! I hope I can be as brave as you are and seasoned in time with my new RV ..Can't wait to hit the road! Best to you and Jason! Looks like fun, I have a class "B", so I truly admire what you are doing and the fact that you did it alone..well, thats true "girl power"! Happy Trails!
I just want to let you know that both of you have been a huge inspiration to my wife and I. Our tiny living started when we build a tiny house in 2012 we lived in it for just over a year before work required that we move five states away from our tiny home. Our tiny house was not built to be moved over and over again so it had to be left behind, we gave it away. We were stuck in one place for just over a year, while dreaming of hitting the road and going on and adventure. In April 2015 the opportunity came knocking and we could not say no. At the time we had an old 1973 23 foot long travel trailer that I had rebuilt we also had three children that were going to be coming along with us. Even though the space was small, the opportunity was huge, so we took the plunge, and hit the road. We spent about six months in that first tiny camper, then we upgraded to a large 33 1/2 foot long 5th wheel. We both want to thank you for inspiring us, check out our new site at Roadsteadtohomestead.com
Of course you can do this. No surprise here. You might reroute the red power cord that connects to the smart car ... looks like it may drag. Safe travels. Hope everything is ok with Jason's family.
FYI, I know we have always told not to back up with a car on a tow bar, but you can back up in very small steps. Just keep an eye on the back up camera, back up a few feet, crank you wheel and make that turn to clear the object in front of you. Otherwise you did an great job. My wife now sees the importance of learning the outside, especially hooking up the toad.
Dear Everyone...Thanks so much for all the kudos and stoked to hear you enjoyed the solo adventure! I especially love hearing all of you who are now going to try driving/hooking up/soloing yourselves! If I can do it, so can you!!!

I am going to try and answer some of the most common questions, if I left anything out, let me know:
1. The blue container I carried away from the water area is our water softener, which helps with water quality tremendously. Here is a link for more info: www.gonewiththewynns.com/product/portable-water-softener

Also add ammonia to your washer fluid about 2-3 cups per gallon
+HammerLane ammonia or vinegar added to the washer fluid can melt the impeller in newer windshield washer pumps, so it is no longer recommended.
+Gone with the Wynns You did a great job!!!!
Gone with the Wynns I haven't watched your videos in so long so I don't remember if Jason did a solo or not
You are such a nice person, humanity has a chance because of people like you.
More of these kinds of videos! Such a good contrast to the other videos, a behind-the-scenes look!

Love that you are honest and real Nikki. Praying Jason's family situation is okay.

Great job Nikki! I felt your pain ...and your relief!
Nikki, you did a great job!! me.. I would have spent the night at the gas station haha. proud of you!

+Tygerlady99 I agree Tyderlady99. I enjoyed seeing her overcome the obstacle of hooking and unhooking the tow vehicle, and trying to maneuver around the tight spaces without panicking. It gives me confidence that someday I can do that too.
Lol, I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who feels this way :)
Being neither a camper or RVer I really enjoy watching you two work and I have to say Nicki you did real good it was a great video thanks to you and Jason for all the interesting work you two do.
you did a great job and made wise choices!! I know everyone is proud of you and Jason too. See, women can do it!! Yahoo!!
Great job Nikki! Loved the video. I think you handled the car situation like a champ. I would have sat on the curb and cried until someone came. Along with cursing Jason the entire time.
Hi first time seeing this video' I think you did Awesome, great great ✌👍
You did just fine... you should be very proud of yourself. You Go Girl!! Bravo!!!
Wow you good Nikki ;) very nice video I like it
I really enjoyed this. It felt like a little adventure that we were all on together. I actually like watching when things go wrong on videos like this I learn so much more.
Frig it would have been beer time for me after having to unhook that car once.
+Randy Bobandy amen :)
+Gone with the Wynns Its possible but I don't think it's legal to have any liquor in the system in that big of a vehicle. I know its fine for cars though to a certain amount
Randy Bobandy- Then drive a couple cheeseburgs into you eh bud? - Mr.Lahey
You did a great job in both dealing with the RV and the video. I am more than impressed with your competence. Keep these videos coming and have fun.......
Hey.. What is the blue tank you turned upside down?? And good job.
+phillip cyr Water softener
+phillip cyr I'm curious about that too.
+phillip cyr Softener or filter?
+PineMountainVentures
Where could you buy such a large water softener? Is it much better than the coach connected type?
+phillip cyr I also would love to know more about this softener, cannot find it online. Any help is appreciated. And I love your youtube channel, been watching for awhile now. Bought our first RV "TT" last January and love it.
Great Job Nikki, could not tell the difference, love the video, and editing, give Jason a run for his money...well done!!
This video cracked me up laughing. You're cute as hell.
Well done Nikki! You did a great job and I appreciate the reminder that my wife and I should know how to do everything when we camp. We have had the same inside / outside setup for years and I think we need to do it better.
good for you dear, what you lack in muscle you make up for in grit and intelligence..... Steve
You are insanely cute
Well done. Nice to see you keep your center centered on a groovy day that was different from the usual routine.
Nikki, I'm so happy for you. You must feel so accomplished! What an inspiration.
+Gone with the Wynns
Excellent!
You did great! A couple of learning experiences along the way are always good.
You did amazing, in fact it was nice to see how we all get those days where you work hard just to get through the day. My thoughts are sent to Jason to keep him energizied through his family story and you are brave in my eyes. Love the kitties. Drink on...you earned it.
You did an AMAZING job Nikki. Hope you get reunited with your hubby soon and that his family emergency situation is all good.
You did an awesome job. I remember all of your great shows on TV. Made me RV way more than I was. Thanks for all your help, I might be full time as soon as my retirement...any day now
Nicely done! I probably would have gotten so frustrated with the car that I wouldn't have filmed anything. You were so calm and collected! Very cool.
I love your videos. It's refreshing to see such good quality content and people that are not begging for donations all the time. Thanks!
I'm sure Jason will be very proud of your efforts, your obviously a very capable woman, well done Nikki, great job, enjoyed your vid.
Happy traveling!
great job Nikki! hope all's well with Jason's family.
Eldonna Waddell, what a wonderful brave soul you are....I applaud you...At 76 and purchasing and going solo on a rig...But you're not fooling me, you have had kahunas all your life....lol Proud of you
Great video - you rock! Thanks for sharing just how frustrating RVing can be.
Go Nikki! Best feeling ever. I think it's important that us ladies know the ropes and empower each other to not be afraid to go it alone if necessary!
Nikki, good job. RVing is not all sunshine and roses, but it is always memorable!
Thanks for the less than perfect day. This gives me great encouragement that I too can overcome obstacles as I begin my adventures.
Nice work! You kept your cool (at least the parts you shared) and prevailed :) Thanks for bringing us along.
You are so amazing, great job Nikki. You inspire me, driving the big motor home and pulling the car. Hope you are very proud of yourself. Always so much fun hearing about you and Jason trips. Take careLinda
Good job You did it. No problem. Be safe out there.
I know this WOW! You did great job Solo , handling that rv and car you kept your cool, I hope you enjoy that beer
Wow, Nikki, I am very impressed! You are amazing, I don't think I could do all you had to do. I would have been a mess! Greta job, I love all your videos. Maybe do some more cooking and organizing ones please!
Great job, I hope all is ok with Jason's family.
Awesome job! Thanks for being candid about your struggles and how you got through them!
That was an awesome video and great insights into the challenges of rv'ing. Thanks much for sharing!
Amazing video Nikki! I'm so glad that you did this, it is truly an empowering message!
Job well done ...Jason will be very proud of you ..
