So, funny thing! I actually had a panic attack earlier today. Since I've had them before and I've gone to therapy to help deal with them, I was able to get it under control in... probably 5 minutes? I'm not sure, time flows differently when you're in the middle of one. For anyone out there that might need help, and nobody's around when you start having a panic attack, here's what to do. This also works for anxiety attacks as they're the same thing aside from how they start! Panic attacks can happen randomly, with no apparent reason, while anxiety attacks happen due to stress or anxiety. The terms can generally be used interchangeably, so don't worry too much over semantics. 1. Stop whatever you were doing before the attack started. If you're driving, find somewhere safe to pull over, whether it's a shoulder, parking lot, or what have you. 2. Focus on your breathing, not the feeling of helplessness. The important thing is slowing your breathing down. It can be challenging both mentally and physically to do this, but this is the most important step. 3. While calming your breathing, do some grounding activities. Touch your fingers to each other as you count them. Name three things you can see. Name three sounds you can hear. This can be done in your head or out loud, whatever helps more. If you have access to ice, holding a piece can help. If you have pets or stuffed animals, holding them can help. 4. Drink some water. I can't speak for everyone, but when I have an attack, I tend to cry, and crying dehydrates you. Drinking water also helps me stop crying, so there's that. 5. Take it easy for a little while. Keep doing grounding activities for as long as you need to. Thank you for coming to my ted talk, take care of yourselves
@Zer0_Soul Yes! that's why I made this video, cuz I've had Panic attacks before and when I saw this comic I felt like I had to dub it. Thanks for the advice
No, he was hyperventilating, which made it to where he was struggling to breathe. Sometimes when a person hyperventilates, they'll put a hand to their throat because hyperventilation can cause the muscles in their throat to constrict. It's kind of an instinctual panic mode. Hope this helps!
Why is shadow such a good therapist to sonic I AM CRYING
