Oh my god the last creature in the Foundonthetape I recognize from an old tf2/gmod deathrun map, Deathrun maps a few years ago had fail safes for where if a certain time passed and a round wasn't over, a sort of chaser/killer will go through the map slowly instantly killing the players to end the round, and in one map the SAME model of the armless dude was used. There's a video of it on youtube called "THE DING IS COMING! [TF2]" I know this doesn't mean that much for the story but I think it's cool seeing that model again.

For reference, the Deathrun map that used the armless killer model is dr_aconian_final.

I had the gman jumpscare happen back in 2009/2010, it was terrifying but I dont remember it opening websites, it was just very loud, I think the sound it played was the stalker scream

The Gman virus thing is 100% real. Played Gmod back in 2009 and would randomly get it on a server I frequented for a day or two. It didn't mess with my PC at all though, and only happened on that particular server. It would randomly show the Gman face on your screen accompanied by the stalker scream.
Going by the multiple reports on the various interactions people have had with it, I'm guessing there were multiple iterations of it from various people who wanted to jump in on the trend.

The Triangle is the "Knights Templar cipher" the message is "I'M STILL STUCK EMAIL TAPE ON THE." it was solved awhile ago as I've said many times on videos based on this, the arg sadly fizzled out.

As a note, NightMind actually looked at the Found on the Tape ARG which I took part in.
Someone left a comment there, but the gist of it was this, the puzzles were getting solved too quickly so the creator kinda just gave up.

Yep, might have even been my comment. That's the email I remember getting from them back in the day. Pretty sad, I think this is probably the coolest, creepiest arg that I've ever experienced.
The "triangle code" is Templar code btw if anyone's interested. Forgot what it decoded to but I think it was a phrase we had to email to the guy to unlock the next video/map

@@RedIsAColorToo It did at the time. Usually the codes in the videos led to either a megaupload link to a new hl2 map, or they were a phrase that we were supposed to email the foundonthetape email. Can't remember which of those this one was, but if you decode it you'll find out.
I thought it was the opposite issue, now to be fair that Nightmind video is pretty old at this point but I remember him saying one of the videos was still left unsolved

Triangle code is not unsolved, I dunno where that piece of info started. It's Templar code. Forgot exactly what it decoded to but I'm pretty sure it was needed to get the next map/video
Another UA-camr did a deep dive on the whole GMan jumpscare rumour, and it turned out there was no documented information of it before Kitty0706's video meaning it most likely was young kids creating a mandela effect and spreading misinformation.

I remember watching found on the tape, its really sad that the creator decided to ditch the ARG, it was really unique for the time. Especially since its so old.
I remember learning about Foundonthetape due to its entity being used for a TF2 deathrun map.
The foundonthetape is likely either two situations:
One situation is that we are too late, theres alot to back this situation as the triangle code as actually solved, its just a dead end (you can find most of what im saying in the reddit server). But someone has found a link thats basically doesnt work anymore, i dont know if possible but if someones able to “restore” that link let us know.
The second situation was that its cancelled, this is the leading theory because there has been theories that the creator couldnt keep up due to being tired and that we were “solving it too fast”, theres even a comment in the gmod iceberg pt2 of a person who acclaimed to help with the arg saying that they moved on as it was too little to begin with.
We may never know.
It feels weird that I tend to show up in every video covering foundonthetape and say this, but it's honestly because I was such a huge fan of it back in the day. Since this was almost 15 years ago my memory fails me but I do recall vaguely that the official email sent us something out of game saying that they were stopping because we were solving stuff to fast. The arg had a lot of eyes on back in the day because, since hl2 maps were involved, the op of the facepunch thread on it decided to name the thread "possible hl3 arg" or something similar. Obviously this isn't true but it got a lot of people looking, and once they did they were hooked.

About the gmod screamers I'm pretty sure there was another one with Albert Wesker on some models, If you had them installed and pressed W you got the "Are you trying to make me angry" Wesker voice line realllly loud and an image of him pops up
That last map... that's what Kitty was playing on at the end of his "Elliot goes camping" video! I've been wondering where that map came from for years!
i got infected by the gman virus lol, it was super common back then but since it locked your cursor and crashed your system, there's almost no recording of it. i'd say about 5-10% of players in 2009-2011 have some experience with it, it wasn't super dangerous just kinda annoying.

Oh, actually - iirc the code in the last found on the tape video was decoded. Night Mind did a video on the same ARG, and updated in a comment.
Here's what that comment said -
"Alright! Patreon supporters were quick to the draw and beat that code pretty quickly. Turns out it's in the language of the Cipher Alphabet for the old order of the Knights Templar. The message is... pretty much what we've already gotten from the uploader: "I'M STILL STUCK EMAIL TAPE ON THE.""
I imagine that the reason the gman virus is not well documented is just because of the shock site, any uploads would've been removed and not many people would want to record it since it means they'll have to see it again

fun fact: my friend plays gmod all the time and he screenshoted a green seagull he made as a joke and showed it but in the backround was the foundontape guy looking at him. He didnt know what it was and we tried to find it and screen shot evidence but no footage. Apart from the image. We just gave up untill i saw this video.

Man the Gmod Tower ARG video really brings me back. For those who don't know if you played Gmod Tower back in the day you could check into your very own hotel room to hang out with other people or whatever you wanted. The hotel room in the spoopy video is just the same hotel room most players would be accommodated with except there's a heavy filter over it.

in the foundonthetape map where you fall down a pit and piano music plays if you listen hard enough theres a voice saying this is not a joke and a couple other things ive never been able to make out. Ive never seen anyone comment on the voice.
The ambient noise for the weird foundonthetape videos is a stock sound effect ive heard for spinning things and heaters in a few maps.

It's funny to look back at Gmod horro and to think that used to scare me so much when I was a kid. Even more than actual horror movies.

It's starting to get insanely tiring getting excited about some ARG, then turns out it's just non-interactive unfiction
*sorta, it's originally for Half-Life 2 and it was just the author's way of doing the ARG, through the source engine, doesn't mean it's necessarily fully Gmod or Half-Life 2
Foundonthetape is a certified hood classic, not gonna lie.

ok so something i found out about the first one that's kinda cool is that there's a horror tf2 game called capture the intelligence with a gmod tower gamemode with a character called "arg man". he's very obviously gman but something interesting to note is that he's blacked out like a shadow and is also floating off the ground. so my guess is he's based on the shadow in the first thing.
the triangle code is deciphered, its an old knights of templar cipher, "I'm still stuck email tapeonthe" if written correctly spaces and all the last three words are meant to be together as one, tapeonthe like another email address. i shot it a message, maybe i'll get a response? whop knows either way i totally didnt get up at 4am to decipher a templar code totally....

Actually apparently the code on the final video of found on the tape was solved, but what was revealed wasn't anything to really write home about. Just stating pretty much what we already know about being stuck and needing to email the uploader.
