I encountered some performance bug that maybe related to playing trailer of the game in the end of playthrough like frame drop and hanging for a second or two. Hopefully in the full release the performance get better.
I would love to make a landscape like that, the shading art style would have to be made in the game engine itself, including particle effects like that fire, while the 3D models would of been made somewhere else. I use Blender, so I've got some idea on this.
Yes, i think this kind of artstyle still rare to do in gaming space. Mostly indie dev right now using asset from marketplace without modified it. So if you making game with this style, it will be a standout among other indie titles.
it looks really cool i especially like the idea of the setting being on europa, i like this idea a lot. I just hope that the game has more to offer than its aethetics, its good to have wanted to make the game look like castle in the sky with the ancient ruins and all, but what is so effective with Ghibli movies is that those visual elements help carry the story's themes, and the visuals of castle in the sky wouldnt be so striking without the beautiful and unique story it serves. I think a lot of media that want to revisit this look just focus on trying to be accurate rather than making something that serves the story that they are telling and as a result they are just pretty but meaningless. And this game looks exactly like the kind of game that only seeks to evoque nostalgia, like even the gameplay seems to try to mimic what Journey was doing and I'm not a fan of that. I hope to be proven wrong !
Maybe the developer have an ace in his sleeve that will make this game really worth it. It seems they heavily inspired by Laputa castle in the sky. Hopefully the story is not retelling Laputa but in game form. Another thought, this artstyle is still very rare used in game media, so far i just found this style in short render for showcase by artist using unreal or unity to show their capabilities.

Its a new game from an indie developer. The title is Europa. Using art style inspired by ghibli movies. Also i get some zelda botw vibe from it.
