The cobblemon vs pixelmon argument feels very huge corpo grocery store vs mom and pop corner store. Pixelmon is overall more finished and polished, but feels a little uncanny and sterile, while cobblemon is more homegrown and open source, but not entirely put together
i get the analogy but it's kinda weird to refer to pixelmon as a huge corpo store when they are also made by fans and dedicated people
Also one had almost a decade of development time compared to the other
cobblemon as been only out for 10 months and they only hade time to Animate new pokemon when more time will pass im sure we will get the true full cobblemon Experience

While Cobblemon is more about refining things, and has a lot of the older pixelmon developers on it
I think Scotts comparison was spot on. Pixelmon once you got going felt like Pokemon just in the Minecraft engine.
While Cobblemon felt more like a fusion of the two in gameplay.
As a dev for this mod I cannot explain how amazing the Cobblemon Dev team is to work with. They are all so kind and passionate about what they do and always focus on what would be good for players and not for their wallets. Best dev team I have ever been a part of!

tbh i wish at least the mod got most of the pokemon done , or at least up to Galar + all the legendaries but its good nontheless def feels more like a minecraft official collab than pixelmon which could be taken bad or good but imo its good
@@justrad7637 correct me if I’m wrong but I could have sworn they did do most of the Pokemon from most gens. I know they had the paldea starters at the very least (fuecoco is my favorite starter line)

I looked into it before. It wasn’t entirely that, and the pixelmon team didn’t seem to be entirely the good guys.
Is pokemon quest any good? I've never felt like trying out because the designs felt a bit lackluster to me.
@@dcbanditIt's.... ok. It's a little baby babuu game, with not very deep mechanics, but it's also inoffensive and simple. It's kind of like those idle games, and pretty approachable and surface level fun, with alright progression, but that's only my opinion from when I played it around the time it first came out.
@dcbandit I played it for about a month and it's pretty bad, it's hard to tell from the outset but as you play you notice things that make the experience worse.
One such example is that the stats of your pokemon randomize upon evolution. For example if you get a geodude with a defense buff, that defense buff might randomize into a speed buff on evolution and you have no real control over it.
TL:DR; Pokemon Quest was not rewarding to play
An addon that actually turns Vanilla Minecraft Mobs into Cobblemon themselves would be hilarious and amazing.

@@docwulff907 | Dark/Dragon would be my bet, yeah. Now, the question is more difficult for the other mobs. Pig, Chicken, Cow are probably Normals, Parrot's Flying, etc., but the Zombie? Skeleton? Creeper? That's tough.

As a Animator for this mod, I cannot say how stunning, and frankly honored I feel when working and seeing all the progress that's been made by others in the team! The feeling is even more amplified seeing a youtuber I love watching and have been watching since I was in Middle school, review and talk about it! 4:00 I'm sure someone has already said this, but they actually plan to add animations for EVERY move. They have three of them showcased somewhere in the announcements channel of the server (I think) and it looks amazing! I'm so excited to see where this mod goes, that's exactly what I've wanted in a pokemon game

It's so wild to see something I'm contributing to featured in a Side of Salt, but it's so refreshing hearing such nice words about it! As some others have said, there's a lot of sweet things coming around the corner, everyone on the team is so passionate and talented that it's all beyond what I had dreamed was possible in Minecraft.
Always love seeing creators shout out fan made mods and such. These kinds of thinfs are always lovely to see, and i hope you'll continue to do stuff like this in the future. Bravo!
another dev shared this video with the rest of our team and i can definitely say i loved the video:) everyone has such passion for this mod and they are wonderful people to work with. still extremely surreal to see things that ive built being used in a youtube video, it strikes me with motivation to get on my pc and work on builds for the mod lol. impressive that your video can do that to someone. cant wait to see you guys explore the ruins in the next update:)

To simplify the whole Pixelmon Vs Cobblemon Argument that's old, tired, and pointless by now:
Pixelmon is Quantity
Cobblemon is Quality
Depends on which team, Reforged play it very safe while Generations is taking a pretty big risk doing a complete overhaul, their mod has been down for over a year now, thankfully the Generations team did a closed beta recently for select server owners with the announcement that it will be releasing early this year, I hope during this time they've taken some inspiration from Cobblemon, which seems very likely as their main partner server Pokeninjas has dived full on into Cobblemon.
I honestly wish mainline pokemon games had you working together with your pokemon more often, kinda like in the anime. I find it hilarious how Cobblemon and *Palworld* of all things made me bond with my pokemon more than most mainline entries did. Being able to *really* work together with your mons in battles, building, crafting, and working together to build a base (assuming you didn't go down the slavery route in palworld,) really makes you feel like you're more connected and bonded with your pals and pokemon, way more than they were in the mainline games in-fact. You really remember those little moments where they helped you build your first furnace in palworld, or helped you navigate out of a cave in cobblemon, or when your pidgeot helped you place down the blocks to finish your roof. I really hope the next entry in Pokemon gives our poke-pals even more uses outside of battling, because they add a lot into making those pokemon feel more real.
Even fan games like Infinite Fusion make massive improvements to the Pokémon formula. Both Infinite Fusion and Cobblemon are incredibly community driven which is why I think they’ve been getting a lot more traction recently. The fans of pokemon are now making better Pokémon games than the actual Pokémon company.
One thing I'm a bit sad you didn’t mention was the fainting/idle animations being f-ing amazing. Tandemaus is by far my favorute

As much as it pains me to say it, not drawing unneeded attention to the mod might actually be the safest way to prevent its take down. If nintendo doesnt know about it, then it wont get taken down by them.

There is one thats fan made called pokemmo. Played it on mobile. Its really cool.

PokeMMO's solid, although they still haven't added some features from the games in yet(Sinnoh Pokemon Contests, the Sinnoh Underground, some Game Corner stuff) though Secret Bases and Contests in Hoenn work, and currently it lacks multiplayer content outside of duels and the occasional co-op event.
I still find the way it does legendaries cool. Most of them are unobtainable for balance purposes, but the few that are, function in a King of the Hill fashion, where only one person can have them, and whoever has them can't refuse a duel. If they lose the duel the winner gets the legendary, and if the owner doesn't fight anyone for a while, the legendary gets bored and leaves.
Speaking of integration with vanilla minecraft: non-pokemon mobs can still attack you while in a pokemon battle, but you can press R to suspend the battle and take control of your character back at any time, so it's no like pixelmon where turning on vanilla mobs means they can just get a free kill while you stand there like an idiot.
Also, you run from battle by actually running from battle because they automatically end if you get too far away.
He made a whole video just to show off a full odds joltik. That, I can respect.

The thing that is most fun about Cobblemon for me is exactly HOW MUCH EFFORT is going into making it ACTUALLY INTEGRATE WITH MINECRAFT.
It's not just "Oh, there's pokemon in the minecraft world", it's OH. YOU CAN SHEAR WOOLOO.
YOU CAN MILK MILTANK.
YOU CAN SLAP SHEARS IN A DISPENSER AND IT'LL COLLECT APRICORNS ON A REDSTONE SIGNAL.
NOSEPASS OCCASIONALLY JUST TURNS TOWARDS THE WORLD'S SPAWN POINT, BECAUSE COMPASS.
FIRE TYPES CAN HANG OUT IN LAVA.
A couple versions ago, they even let shouldermon give you minecraft buffs while they were on your shoulder - Pidgey would give you slowfall, Joltik would give you haste, and so on. I believe they still want to do it, but it needs rebalancing.
I use to play pixelmon a lot, but when I saw and tried out Cobblemon I had this huge realization of "this is what Pokémon In Minecraft should feel and look like, not like the Pokémon where strong armed into the game, but integrated into the game elegantly crafted to fit the blocky esthetic Minecraft has" like you can tell the mod creators have a lot of passion for this project and I look forward for what comes next in this mod

Been playing Cobblemon since release. It's already come so far! I can't wait to see where it goes next.
My friends set up a server where we each picked our favorite gmy/elite four member and built a team and gave out pokemon to anyone who could beat us.
There's so much you can do in it b/c it's still Minecraft but there's just pokemon around.
Something not mentioned in this video (Because at the time of upload the feature is disabled for overhaul iirc) is that with smaller pokemon you can have them ride on your head/shoulder and they give you passive buff effects! Like for example having a Joltik ride on your shoulder would give you night vision.

I’d will vouch for the folks on the cobblemon islands server; who have been adding more and more of the dex over the past few months and even fixing some of the issues the vanilla has. Highly recommend if anyone wants a server to try this out on.
I genuinely hope to see Cobblemon improve in the future. One of my favorite parts of playing pixelmon is scrambling to catch a legendary when a notification pops up, so I want to see how Cobblemon handles their legendaries. Structure based legends are cool, but I’d love to see at least some rng when legendaries are fully implemented.

I’ve been following Cobblemon for the last several months and only played it recently for the first time. It really is an incredible mod with a ton of potential to be the “definitive” Pokémon mod. The thing I’d love to see the most at this point is a dedicated Minecraft server because I’ve had issues with getting all of my friends onto one LAN world.

Its kind a nuts how much more natural of a pokemon world a minecraft mod is vs a nintendo open world game like legend of arcius feels.
this is so well timed, I started playing this mod last week.
I remember my brother putting so much effort in a community pixelmon server, saying it was the kind of game he loved to see with Pokemon. Now, he's putting his efforts into making mods for Palworld, as we both found pure sugar cane fun with that game. Also being a modmaker, I wish all the peeps working on this mod the best of luck in growing this to higher places.

There’s also a lot of little cobblemon servers that need more love! A good example is the cobblemon roanoke server! They host weekly tournaments for legendaries and stuff, they have a great community and they do fun events all the time, with even a gym circuit (spoiler alert, im the first gym member, and they might be looking for more idk). So if anyone is interested in cobblemon, I recommend finding a good server with good people if you don’t have any friends to play with, since it’s just as much of a blast!
The worst part of 3D models is that they don't express any personality and just stand there in an standard pose doing nothing

It's cool there are addons trying to make them do more in the world! Sheep pokemon dropping veal and wool, the porygon there seemed to be messing with the redstone too!
Maybe there's an addon that makes rock and steel type pokemon act like silver fish that can hide among stone and ore blocks. So much potential
I didn't play cobblemon before but I feel like sharing this story anyhow because it is pokemon related: I used to play a fair amount on a Pixelmon server, and one thing I would like doing is picking a very large pokemon (Like a Mega-Evolved Steelix or a Xurkitree), riding it, and going to spawn to mess with other players.
I hope this vid was fun for you to make! From what it sounds like in your posts you've been having a rough time lately so it was really nice to hear how positive and happy you sounded.
if you want balls that work better out of battle, what I've loved using are Safari Balls, which use Yellow and Green Apricorns, plus a bit of copper. ABSOLUTELY worth the cost imo, since it's the Great Ball's catch rate.

I began playing the mod around a year ago I think, and I have to say I think it's absolutely amazing. It fits into the actual Minecraft world so well.
One thing I adore (idk if its in base cobblemon or not) is that in the pack, "big chad guys plus" mons will aggro depending on species if you attack em, angive effects relating to it. For example I hit a mabostiff and got blinded and killed BUT! This also applies to your mons and the higher the level the more damage they do, so ya can have your mons out with you and they'll fight mobs that attack you. My chimchar incinerates anything that looks at me wrong XD
This is a planned feature that can be enabled early with the "fight or flight" addon, yes.

Cobblemon pokeball:
- 4 berries + copper ore
- crafts 4 balls
Pixelmon pokeball:
- 5 iron for a hammer
- 7 iron for anvil
- 3 iron for bottom ball part
- 3 red apricorns for top of ball
- smelt the 3 apricorns
- craft the top and bottom of ball
- craft a stone button
- smash the top with a hammer on the anvil for like 5 seconds
- smash the bottom with a hammer on the anvil for like 5 seconds
- combine top, bottom, and button for 3 pokeballs
1.5 is out, and it has Battle Animations!

I was surprised when I heard that there was another Pokemon mod for Minecraft, but I might like this way more. Pixelmon feels like "Pokemon in Minecraft", but this feels like "Pokemon Minecraft" if that makes sense.
I have wanted that to be a thing for so long, but was never sure how it could actually work in a way that felt... I dunno... like it genuinely meshed. This? This is truly wonderful and awesome. I really hope to see it continue to grow and inspire Pokemon (and Minecraft) lovers everywhere.
When I evolved a Tandemaus I caught in cobblemon it evolved into the 1/100 3 family form and I couldnt have been happier

To be fair, it feels like an entire new game by it's own. And way better than a lot of recent actual games. Let alone recent actual Pokémon games.

I've only played Pixelmon, but feel a problem with mixing Pokémon and Minecraft together is that the Pokémon rarely mixes with the Minecraft part. It always feels like I'm playing 2 separate games. Half the time I'm just catching mons and leveling with no objective, the other I'm accumulating resources to build a bigger and better base and maybe defeat the ender dragon. I think the best mods usually combine with the normal Minecraft experience, take most automation mods (mekanism).In vanilla Minecraft, you will usually build a home base so you have a safe place to smelt your ores, craft, and so on. But with automation mods, they add on to base building by giving you more stuff to build in your base that makes you better at the normal Minecraft stuff. In Minecraft, I want ores. With Mekanism, I can make a digital miner to mine ores in a certain radius. But to use a digital miner, I have to build it and make a strong enough power source. And while I make the digital miner, I should make electric furnaces and other machines to make my ingot production more efficient while I'm at it. All of this mixes with parts of the core gameplay of Minecraft (gathering resources) and makes me want to use the mod.
With Pixelmon, what do Pokémon help me in Minecraft. They mostly just drop items that Pokémon can hold. They don't help you craft anything. You mostly just use them for Pokémon battles which don't affect the Minecraft side of the game. A cool thing that Pixelmon allows you to do is ride the Pokémon you catch which allows you to fly around, or travel much faster than on foot. These aspects of Pixelmon I enjoy because there is a Minecraft centered reason for why I would want Pokémon. But other then that, there is no reason someone playing Minecraft would want to catch Pokémon.
And even if you want to ignore the Minecraft aspect of the game and just go on a Pokémon adventure, Minecraft's survival open world worsens that adventure. You catch a few Pokémon and level them up, wander around a forest battling random Pokémon, rather find a gym on accident or run around the world searching for one, then fight the gym. Maybe the gyms have gotten cooler since the last time I played it, but even so, this doesn't feel like an adventure. I feel like a potential way to fix this is have the gyms in special biomes that you need a specific type of Pokémon for. Maybe have a volcano biome with a dungeon inside that leads to the fire gym. Maybe have fire shoot out of rocks in the volcano, but if you have a water or ice Pokémon with you, they can extinguish the fire before it hits you. Or just create obstacles that incentivize the player to have certain Pokémon.
There are probably many ways to make a Pokémon survival game, but I don't think Pixelmon is it. I'm not saying Pokémon should be anything like this, but from what I've watched, Palworld does a decent job of combining Pokémon with survival gameplay. the Pals are needed to get farther in the survival aspects of the game, and the survival aspects of the game builds onto the battle aspect of the game. Though Palworld does feel like one big shitpost, so I'm not saying that Pokémon should be this. But for there to be a good Pokémon Survival experience, The Pokémon aspect has to feed into the survival aspect, and vise versa.
I'm done rambling. This post will probably be ignored anyways, but I just wanted to scream into the void.
The question becomes... when do the ninjas come. We know they're watching... they are in every corner...
