Back towards the end of September I also found a dead lake run brown that was around 2 foot long as well. Except this one had its gills slit and its stomach ripped open.
great video! as a normal driftless trout fisherman looking to get into steehead and salmon in the great lakes. do you just use spinners? do you find thats mostly effective enough?
@@dodge33w thanks. Given the popularity of fly fishing and centerpin angling, hardware chuckers are in the minority up north. They do work and you can see past videos of similar success. It has been many years since being skunked up north using hardware. I use big PM size 18 equivalent lures. Also Vibrax lures in yellow and orange seem to get hit. I think it is likely that fly guys and pinners connect with many more fish, but you can't beat the thrill of a 7-10#er on a 6'6' medium heavy rod. Game on! Happy fishing!
@@levimesser6414 definitely not typical. The recent heavy rain was the biggest issue. One or two more days would have been better. Also, it warm for November and we had a very dry and warm Sept Oct as well. All of these things inhibit lake runner migration. I would guess the run hasn't even really hit yet. Also unusual. The last of the salmon will rush in in Nov sometime, probably late. There are also more resident fish usually. You don't know if you don't go. Happy fishing!
No hate here at all!! Disappointed, yes! These fish are WILD, NOT STOCKED!!! DNR does not stock this river. So you have a limited amount of Steelhead coming in every year, and to kill a hen in her prime like this just wiped out hundreds of fry fry from the recruitment next spring. If it was a buck, it would have been one thing. But taking out a hen like this is truly disappointing.
Well, not exactly. There are Seeforellen brown, splake and Coaster programs that are contributing fish to both the peninsula and south shore. While not as aggressive as 90s and 00s stocking, that produced large numbers of fish and decimated natural stock and genetics on the river in question here. I see we disagree and that's fine. U do u. Happy fishing!
With a 26" size limit there are plenty of hens from 20"-25" that spill a ton of eggs. Not to mention all the legal ones that don't get caught. I love catching fish, but if I didn't eat fish I doubt I would bother fishing. I'll be keeping a steelhead that hits the 26 mark on Superior tribs, whether buck or hen. People act like fisherman who want the grip and grins to feed their egos have a better motive than others. Eat fish, don't eat fish...either way that decision is up to the person who catches it. Not the internet biologists.

Well, now you are being rude. On avg, I harvest a (1) legal steelie and any legal salmon. @stevetan2331 It may sound snotty, but advertising good fishing spots is the quickest way to ruin the fishing quality. Human population has far exceeded an adequate natural balance. @PackerManForLife no offense taken. But keep in mind that all streams are mapped and listed by county. To think that a video without names, pins or landmarks would cause demand for anglers that weren't going to be there anyway, just doesn't follow.
