I like that they made Andre nuanced. There were a lot of layers on why he didn't kill Roc. You see throughout his run on the show that he actually tries to keep his business quiet and running smooth. Can't do that shooting everyone that upsets you. He also seems to live by a code in terms of what he does for violence and when. When he talks to the kid in prison, he was disgusted that the kid used a drive by shooting like a coward, where he could have hit people not involved in his dispute, rather than walking right up to the person he had a problem with. He's not a senseless killer. And finally I think he saw Roc as an obstacle. But he also saw him as a guy just doing what he felt he needed to do, and was willing to stand up to someone like Andre to do it, while not resorting to trying to seriously hurt him. There was definitely respect there.

I think the biggest reason he didnt kill Roc had more to do with how respected he was in the community. He was everything andre was. Two strong men who stood their ground and were fearless when it came time to make a move. You kill Roc and best believe whatever operation he had going on would have been put to bed. Most drug dealers generally arent callous towards people on the outside and are smart enough to understand that civilian casualties only bring more attention to something that doesnt need it. Roc and Andre were both leaders that just different paths

"If you shoot me, you have to shoot everyone in this bar."
Andre told his boy to put the gun away.
Simple math: The gun has six bullets, the bar has more than six people...Step off, Andre.

Actually, "that gun" holds six(teen) bullets... may not had gotten everybody but Roc and 15 others would've caught the blues

@Aye_Yo_E Then why did Andre tell his flunky to put it away?
Simple math, fool. Your drug-peddling "hero" lost. Later on, Heavy D smoked his sorry ass.

@Aye_Yo_E Then why did Andre tell his flunky to "put it away?" Your drug-peddling "hero" was better at simple math than you are. SMH.
Of course, later on, he got smoked by Heavy D.

@@Aye_Yo_EAnd later that season, Andre got smoked by Roc's friend Calvin. Others were moving in, too. Andre Thompson was a punk.
If there were "16," why did he tell his flunky to put it away?
Be careful who you chose for your "heroes," junior.

One of the things that set Roc apart from most sitcoms wasn’t just the writing but all the actors were veteran stage performers. All of the main cast at some point performed in an August Wilson play and it always showed. It always burned me that ROC was cancelled and Martin was given additional seasons. At last I checked ROC only had 72 episodes which prevented it from going into syndication
