I am so glad I have always known my gift and that is understanding animals, training animals and sharing my training knowledge with others. When I realized I was on the short end of this earthly experience I decided to freely share my animal experience on youtube so when I have passed over others can still hopefully find answers to frustrating training problems. If I can keep one animal from being put down or dumped in a "shelter" due to behavior problems I will feel successful, but hopefully it will be more. This is such a great reminder, Sandra! I have difficulty finding a job I can do because of some chronic pain issues and lack of skills, but I can paint, draw and write! The technology involved is a continuous learning curve, but at 68, I figure it keeps my mind sharp. These talents are my best hope, without a way to pay my bills at this time, so I'm working at the things I do well. Thank you again for a wonderful and inspiring video! 💙💐💕
@@susannicky That is the best and wisest action to take. I know so many people who have the idea that if they save or invest, they will lose it, so they struggle for the rest of their lives.
We look for external gifts, I think. Art, (I’m an artist), musician, cooking skills, crocheting, etc.
Being a good listener, an encourager, the ability to make someone laugh..these are gifts as well. They clearly are not physical, but they are gifts to use and share.

I had a neighbor who is now deceased, who had a gift with her birdfeeders and her birds. Her birds all loved her and sat on her shoulders and came to her fingertips. Amazing. Such a joy.

I love to draw and oil paint and I will start on a small scale. I’m 69 years old and I would think about doing this again because I loved doing this when I was a young girl. I'm in my late 50s. A year or so ago I found Taco Doritos, not something that is part of my current eating habits, but the nostalgia of eating them in elementary school in the early 70s prompted me to buy some. As I was eating them I thought about how their sole purpose for existence is to bring happiness to people. Then it kind of dawned on me - without any exceptional talents, maybe MY purpose is to bring happiness to people. I love to make eye-contact, smile and wish someone a good day. I love to make people laugh with my sense of humor. I always want people to leave me feeling better about themselves and about life, and I realized I've always naturally tended to do that.
So if someone feels ungifted, or untalented, maybe your purpose is to cheer the ones you come in contact with, who may otherwise feel the world is against them. Show them their value.

Some gifts, talents can become apparent later in life. I always loved rocks, stones, etc., and wanted to make jewelry ever since the 70's. I was always technical in my career, IT, accounting, etc. I didn't think I had a crafty bone in my body. Surprisingly, I was wrong. At age 66, 7 years ago, I finally had the time and money to try jewelry making. Oh how much fun and joy I am having. I am surprisingly good at wire wrapping beautiful beads, stones, etc. I give most of my work away to ladies in my Senior exercise classes. I donate to charity thrift stores around the country. Friends take my jewelry with them when they travel abroad and give them as hostess gifts. I could go on. I teach those that are interested. It is never too late. (P.s. UA-cam is your friend to do any learning. )

The hardest part of finding gifts is realizing that thing is your super power. Our gifts seem so simple to us, doesn't everyone have this?! Ask your friends. They will surprise you! You will first deny it. But open up to it, look for evidence and you will see it. Friends see it first. Believe in their love of you. As you embrace it, they will confirm it.

Sandra, you are such a wonderful influence on so many. I retired 10+ years ago, earlier than I would have bc my college closed. It’s been a blessing to have the freedom to do whatever I want, though at the time it was an extremely heartbreaking event bc I loved teaching 9:01 .
I know it sounds selfish, but I haven’t really had the desire to do anything structured bc my life was so much “nose-to-the-grindstone.” I want to be flexible and free and lazy if I so choose.
I enjoy lavishing love on my two senior rescue pugs, cooking, gardening, reading, yoga, & being sort of the neighborhood “connector.” Our small community is all senior citizens. I get out & visit with others. I also plant & tend the neighborhood flower garden in our little park.
I’ve thought about starting a YT channel, but I don’t want to spend my days tied to the computer editing. I’ve been tethered to a desk for way too long as an English teacher to want that confinement again.
So I guess my point is that I feel I don’t have any really strong purpose these days, except to enjoy my family & my own company. That seems really kind of pathetic & selfish. I was very involved in community activities, especially for abused women, so I feel that I gave back to folks so much & neglected my self-care. I don’t want to volunteer bc I know all too well how a monthly meeting then turns into committees & bake sales & secretarial duties. No thanks! So selfish me will walk my dogs, work in the flower garden, cook healthy meals for me & my hubby, & have the freedom to visit our grands & support them in their activities.
Keep up your good work bc you are inspiring!

I never really thought about it but one evening while making a simple dinner for four, my friend said, Virgie your gift is hospitality. It is natural for me, I love sharing in all things. We are 73 married 54 years, have sons, DILs grandchildren, nieces, greats, and friends. We decided to have a Big Barn Party Supper on our property in Ohio. Not Halloween. Everything Fall and thankfulness. We are providing a lot and others are bringing dishes. My decorating creativity is going wild. We will have door prizes too. I almost did not want to do this because of so many busy schedules. My husband said, just do it and helps with all the heavy lifting. These days so much entertainment is expensive and not conducive to uplifting people.
A Barn Party sounds like a lot of fun for everyone, Virgie. And, God is going wild decorating the outside too... Such a beautiful time of year. We all have a lot to be grateful for!

Wonderful life advice. Most of us never figure it out. I retired at 71 to embark on something I love to do. I was so scared because of money. However, my ex left me his car I can sell in order to start my business debt free. Sandra is right. If you have a passion or just trying to find one, doors will open.

2 years ago, I wasn’t able to understand anything in English.
I didn’t study English . Instead , I watched so many kids’ shows.
I think my gift is being able to learn languages like little kids.🙃
I still make so many mistakes , but I’m certain that I speak better that a 2- year- old -native- speaker kid 😅
