Thank u for the video Mr. Whittdocs. Love the old ways. I instill a lot of the old ways in my kitchen. Cooking n baking n food prep. It was so simple back then n things were taken more seriously. Thank u for sharing n have a good day.
Very interesting. Thank You for sharing. This reminds me of my grandmother’s funeral. The funeral home offered caskets and coffins. They had 2 horse drawn restored carriages. You could use either one to take your final ride. They let us pet and feed the horses. Added a little fun to a somber gathering.
Thanks, Chris. Very interesting. Arlington looks bare in some of these photos compared to the way it looks now. So many have died to keep us and others free. 😞
Thank you, Chris for this nice compilation of photos. I enjoyed the music that went with them as well. I look forward to seeing more videos like this. 💐
Thanks for sharing Chris it's nice to meet you here Chris from Mary .... I love hearing about these old times and things that happen during their time....💖💖
Hi ! Old funerals were certainly different than today . People today just have a cremation and private burial . Thanks for a look into the past . Take care . Deborah Canada 🇨🇦
That was interesting and the moment the pictures were taken it was the present and now so many years later many of those people are in a Cemetery somewhere. Thank you again for this.
Chris sorry I've been gone for awhile.. I was in the hospital and lost my fur baby 15 yrs and trying to get my strength back. Doing a lot better now. Love History also. This was Great🙏❤
Very interesting video, would have preferred knowing what I was viewing. Missing were the open casket family portraits that I have seen, circa early 1900’s.
Thank you so much, Chris, for this superb video. You never fail to amaze and delight at the same time. I am humbled and proud to be a part of all these journeys with you.
Very well done video, another practice at funeral’s in the 1950’s was to take photographs of the deceased in open casket’s why 🤷♂️, but I have one of my grandfather from 1955 I was 4 at the time, it is actually a small 3x5 black and white booklet with 9 or 10 photographs of him and the funeral was held in the front room of the residence which he and my grandmother lived
My Brother and his Wife made it a mission to take photos of both my Dad and my Mom when they died. My Dad had lost so much weight and was so frail I knew he wouldn't want to be seen like that, so I asked for a closed casket and placed photos of him in various stages of his life on a foam board and easel behind the casket. My Brother asked the funeral home to open the casket so he could see him, and he was taking pictures when I walked in. Same kind of thing with my Mom, and I know for sure she wouldn't have wanted that done. So because of my Brothers actions of what consider total disrespect, I have made sure that he is not allowed to attend my funeral if I pass before him. I have told people close to me that if anyone takes photos of me when I die, I will haunt them, their kids and their grandkids... I'm very serious in this.
@@WhispersFromTheDark I understand your stance on this and agree that family and friends should and hope they abide by your wishes, but in the 1950’s that was excepted as normal and was place with family archives for future generations to have a true line to the family that came before them.
I have the photo books of my baby brother (1966), maternal grandfather(1977) and my mother's (1995) funerals, haven't been able to bring myself to look through them They reside in my desk with my grandfather's bible Rick B
Loved this historic look at funerals. I mentioned to someone the other day that it seems like we as a society don’t hardly have funerals anymore. We have memorial services, graveside services, celebration of Life services etc. I think we miss something by not being able to say goodbye to a loved one through the tradition of a funeral. idk, maybe I’m wrong?
You're wrong. I was traumatized by my brother's murder and funeral and traumatized again when my Mom died a few years later. Funerals are nothing more than a thing for people to attend to try to assuage their guilt for not being there for the person while they were alive.
A lot of the no funerals today is that they cost so much more then they did back in the day. Where back then a funeral. Probably cost between 50 and a 100 dollars by today's standards where it cost thousands of dollars.
You can tell the "Monarchs" and the Presidents "Funeral", they're rather obvious. I don't think there's ANYTHING SADDER than a "Riderless Horse"!!!! Makes me want to cry EVERY TIME I SEE THAT!!!! And I was only 4 when President Kennedy's Funeral occurred, but when I look at the photos, it was like it happened yesterday. One of the SADDEST DAYS in this nations History!!!!
Great topic for your channel! I look forward to learning about others’ funeral customs. One thing that has always fascinated me was the death photos from the Victorian era, and the few from more modern times. Love your channel. 😊
I like the thought of a burial in a private place( not a funeral home). I jokingly tell my children," I don't want to be in a funeral home with all those dead people" .
Interesting video as always. Just curious do you plan on visiting the graves of Patsy Cline and Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and Randy Hughes someday? There is also a memorial at the site of the crash in Camden Tennessee
Very interesting. I do believe some cultures still do things I would assume, "traditionally" like cremating their loved ones remains outside, in front of everyone. I don't know the reason, but not something I would like to attend, but each to their own. Thanks for sharing this
There r some videos online of funeral pyres where a body is put inside a log structure n several people light their torches n circle the pyre lighting the wood. It's a religious thing.
I have no intention of having a funeral. They're expensive, and serve no purpose that's going to do me any good, and I refuse to put my son through that. Plus I don't want a bunch of people coming to stare at my dead body when they don't even bother to pick up a telephone now.
Funerals are the same now as they were 200 years ago, there's a deceased person in a box, and much ado about the deceased whether hated or loved. There's more cremation these days, whereupon the deceased's ashes are thrown into a body of water, or cast into the wind, or placed in an urn and placed on the mantel, (or in a closet) until a cat jumps upon it and spreads it all over the floor to be swiftly swept away. THE END. 💀
I was a funeral director and embalmer and amazed what a funeral costs today. I worked in Hollywood, Florida and Florence, Kentucky. My family have chosen to be cremated..
Some places and people have funerals in unique ways 👻 I've been to many funerals as a child growing up with parents of 13 siblings and many family members. I don't plan to attend anymore, because I feel people show up just to show off and I'm not all about that. I, myself don't want a funeral for folks to show up that didn't even care for me, just to say they showed up to honor me. BS
This is one of the saddest video blogs I have ever watched of yours 😪 I know you are showing photographs of people from many yesterdays who've died and their funeral services but the music 💔 in your voice tone 😥 it just brings me down 😒 if any video blog needed a cameo of your face Lumberjack 😍 this one definitely did I think I'm going to bed 🛌 early tonight behind this blog as always no disrespect intended New York City USA 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤 p.s. now even a kiss 💋 or a quicky would make me feel better 🥺 then again if it's Lumberjack lips 💋 I think I'll survive and live in look forward towards more tomorrows lol 😆 lol 🤣 lol 👍🏿

Such a difference like carriages and some so grand. Loved the video. Good job Chris.

I loved this video. I love the history of the funeral and burial traditions.
A glimpse back in time. Love the two dogs that were probably at their owner's funeral and the horse drawn carriages.
Thank you for sharing💜
There was such class and elegance when it came to funeral customs.

Creepy - I wanna remember you sitting up in your favorite chair.

This was very fantastic to yesteryears funerals. It interesting how people buried their dead. More please.
Old funerals were a lot different times have changed
I only recognized three, JFK, MLK Jr and the Lincoln train.
I like the thought of a burial in a private place( not a funeral home). I jokingly tell my children," I don't want to be in a funeral home with all those dead people" .

First comment. I love videos like this. Great job sir?
My question is where did the tradition come from with burial being done around 11 am?
😥
